To understand flowering response under diverse day-length condition and the movement of floral stimulus, we used six perilla accessions which showed diverse days to flowering. Though the growth phase was reported as irreversible between vegetative and reproductive stage, perilla showed reversible growth phase according to day length increase in May and June. When it sowed in March, flowering response was started in early May and vegetative and reproductive phase was coexisted in late June. When a part of a perilla plant was treated under short day condition, only apical buds on main stem or branches were flowered but other long day conditioned apical buds were not flowered. With this result it is suggested that the floral stimulus can not be transferred to other part of perilla.
Two cowpea varieties, VITA #5 &Jungweon local var., had been sown at intervals of 15 days from May 1 to Aug. 29, and the following results were obtained. The earlier the two varieties had been sown, the shorter period from planting to first blooming and maturing, the more peduncles, the more pods per peduncle and plant, the heavier 100-grain weight, and the more grain yield we had. VITA #5 was earlier in maturity and higher in yielding performance than Jungweon local var., and both could not bloom in late sowing after Aug. 14. During the period of flowering and seed-setting, bad weather condition decreased the number of grains per pod. Limit sowing date of VITA #5 was Jun. 30 and that of Jungweon local var. was Jun. 15 in the middle part of Korea. Growing degree days (GDD) was available in cowpea.

Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate methods to reduce seeding expenses, thereby increasing farm income. This study investigated the effects of rain shelter controlled cultivation and adapted seeding times on the stable seed production of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi. Methods and Results: Seed germination was conducted under 10 condition compose to control, water washing, cold storage at $4^{\circ}C$ for 15 days, seed sterilization with a benomyl pesticides, hormone treated seed by submerging in 100 ppm $GA_3$ with the cold storage at $20^{\circ}C$ and $25^{\circ}C$, darkness in a covered petridish and illuminated with a 1,500 Lux lamp. There were three cultivation type, open cultivation with non-woven fabric mulching, cultivation with a vinyl covering and rain sheltered in a plastic greenhouse. Sowing dates were April 27, May 18, June 7 and June 28, 2013. Plants were spaced 10 cm apart in rows 30 cm apart. Mixed oil cake fertilizer, $N-P_2O_5-K_2O$ (12-10-10) was applied at $600kg{\cdot}10a^{-1}$. Conclusions: Optimum germination occured in darkness at $25^{\circ}C$ and cold storage after submerging in $GA_3$. The highest seed yields ($4.5kg{\cdot}10a^{-1}$) occurred in the plastic greenhouse for the April 25 sowing. The highest root yield (17%) was found on April 1, under greenhouse conditions.
Soybean, azuki-bean and mungbean were cultivated at different growing conditions, May 10, June 9, July 9 seeding, and May 10 seeding-short day treatment, to investigate the distribution of flowering date and the variation of pod/flower ratio. The growth habit type of the soybean variety used was determinate, but the azuki-bean and mungbean varieties used showed indeterminate growth habit. The pod/flower ratio ranged 38 to 48% for soybean, 23 to 34% for azuki-bean and 46 to 60% for mungbean along with growing conditions. Flower abscission for soybean and mungbean, and pod abscission for azuki-bean affected more on the number of matured pods. Soybean showed once full blooming period, but azuki-bean and mungbean showed two or three times full blooming period except July 9 seeding plot through the whole growing period. Flowers bloomed just after every full blooming period showed lower value of pod/flower ratio and higher pod/flower ratio was obtained from flowers bloomed before or far after full blooming at plots seeded May 10 and June 9 in three pulse crops. Most full blooming period of soybean coincided within 5 days near the terminal leaf appearance date, and number of flowers bloomed before terminal leaf expansion and matured pods from these flowers were major in every soybean plant at all growing codition plots. No relations were found between terminal leaf appearance and flowering or pod setting patterns of azuki-bean and mungbean.
The study was conducted to investigate an optimum growing condition for various sizes of seedlings of rice for mechanical transplantation under different sowing rates, different levels of fertilizers, different sowing dates and g rowing days. The plant height, leaf number and dry weight of seedlings increased as the sowing rate decreased and amount of fertilizer applied were increased. Also those seedling characters increased as the rice planted late and the total growing periods increased. The factors affected seedling chracters were ordered as following-sowing times>growing days>sowing rate>fertilizer levels. 200 gr. of seeds per box and 4 gr. of fertilizers were optimum for young seedling growth, when sown early. For medium size of seed ling growth, 50 grams and 100 to 125 grams of rice seemed to be adequate for 25 days old and 35 days old seedling, respectively. However, the 45 days old seedling grew too mach and were not suitable for mechanical transplantation. When planted late, similar results were obtained with more differences among treatments. In other words, the suitable plant density was obtained when 100 gr. of seeds were planted per box. Middle class of seedlings were obtained when 100 to 150 gr. of rice were planted per box and grown for 25 days. The seedlings from the box with 100 to 150 gr. of rice per box were over grown and ratio of suitable seedling was also low if they were grown over 35 days.
Soil temperatures at depths of 1~5cm are important to the germination and emergence of dry seeded-rice. An automated weather station was used to monitor the hourly weather parameters at Experiment Farm, Kyung Hee University from April 21 to May 30 in 1994. The data was analyzed to figure out the 24-hour temporal changes in air 1.5m above ground and soil temperatures under ground of 0, 2.5, 5, 10 and 20cm. The fluctuations of soil temperature were greatest at the soil surface and decreased with increasing depth. Mean soil temperatures at depth of 2.5cm were about 3$^{\circ}C$ higher than mean air temperatures during the observation period. Although mean soil temperatures at depth of 2.5cm during 10 or 15 days after April 21, May 1 and May 11 showed almost same temperatures, the distribution patterns of temperature regime were different from each other. Rice cultivars, Hwasung, Seohae, Nampung, IR60 and CR155, were seeded at depth of 2.5cm on April 21, May 1 and May 11, respectively. The periods of seedling emergence(PSE) varied in accordance with cultivars and seeding dates. PSE was correlated with accumulated daily mean air temperatures and accumulated hours classified by temperature regimes.
Experiments were conducted to clarify the variations of the ecological characteristics under different day-length and temperature conditions inperilla varieties from 1972 to 1973 in the experimental fields of Crop Experiment Station, O.R.D, Suwon. Thirty-six varieties were tested in the field in 1972 under 6 growing seasons differing seeding dates. from April 5th to June 20th with 15-day interval between each seeding. Pot-experiment also were conducted in 1972 and 1973. The seeds of the 6 varieties tested were sown on May 25th. In this pot-experiment natural condition was regarded as a short-day treatment and 100-W incandescent lamps were used for long-day treatment. Three selected varieties were grown under different. temperature treatments in phytotron in Crop Experiment Station. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Most varieties tested flowered around September 6. The days required to flower were shortened gradually as the planting time was delayed. 2. The varieties used were matured around October 6, but the maturity was shortened when planted early. The days required for maturity after flowering was 26 to 30. 3. The growing period was also shortened gradually when planting time was delayed. 4. Plant height was reduced when planting time was delayed. 5. There were little differences in number of valid branches among planting time I, II and III, while the branch number was reduced as the planting time was delayed. 6. The dry matter weight was gradually increased from planting time I to III, while it was rapidly decreased after planting time IV. 7. It was found that the flowering of perilla was little affected by temperature. The varieties, however, were more sensitive to day-length. 8. No clear tendency was found in the plant height, number of valid branches and dry matter weight by the time and period of day-length and temperature treatments. 9. The highest yield was obtained at planting time III(May 5th) and the yield was decreased at either earlier or later planting. 10. 1, 000 grain weight appeared to be heavier as the planting time was delayed. 11. The number of flower cluster was largest at planting time III (May 5th) and it was decreased as planting time was earlier or later than III. 12. The oil content was also highest at planting time III (May 5th). 13. Days to flowering, days to maturity and total growing period and flowering period did not affect the yield much. 14. The number of valid branches, flower clusters, 1, 000-grain weight and dry matter weight were positively correlated with yield. The relationship between these characters and yield were variable depending upon the planting time.

The objective of this study was to determine the response of rapeseed (Brassica napus) to different planting date in the spring and varieties on growth and flowering characteristics. Eight rapeseed varieties were sowed at 10 day interval from 1st to 31th of March at Muan and Jeju in Korea. Significant planting dates and rapeseed varieties effects for growth, start of flowering and duration. As the planting date was being delayed, plant length and flower number were decreased, but branch number was increased. And, start of flowering date was retarded and flowering duration decreased with later planting date. Days from planting to flowering was shortened as seeding date was delayed and shortening degree was similar between experimental locations, Muan and Jeju. The days to flowering for rapeseed about 73~94 days for 1st March and then decreased to 57~71 days for the 31th March of planting date. 'Tammiyuchae' and 'Mokpo 111' seeded on each planting date come into blossom more earlier about 10 days as compared to 'Tamlayuchae' and 'Naehanyuchae'. The duration of flowering for the B. napus varieties was shortened as planting date was delayed. The results revealed that flowering characteristics of rapeseed can be greatly enhanced by planting as early as possible, and early flowering varieties i.e. 'Tammiyuchae' and 'Spring' were the most suitable varieties among the tested varieties for planting in the spring.
This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of nitrogen top-dressing and Jangyeopkong was planted under two different seeding time (single cropping-May 15, after barley cropping-June 18), four levels of nitrogen top-dressing (0, 3, 6, 9 kg/10a) and two times of nitrogen top-dressing (Hilling time, Flowering Time). The results obtained are summarized as follow: 1. The days to flowering and maturity were delayed a day longer in hilling times than flowering times of nitrogen top-dressing. 2. The number of nodes of main stem and length of internodes didn't show significance among treatments. But, the number of nodes of branches was much higher when the soybean was planted on May 15, and were higher hilling time than flowering time as the amount of nitrogen top-dressing increased. Especially, the number of nodes of branches was high when 6kg of nitrogen was applied during hilling time. 3. The fresh and dry weight of stem and leaves at 10, 25 and 40 days after flowering were increased by increasing the amount of nitrogen top-dressing. More apparent effect of nitrogen was attained high significant when nitrogen was applied at the time of hilling rather than flowering time. 4. The number and fresh weight of nodule, and dry weight were apparently decreased after barley and were decreased according to the increasing the amount of nitrogen top dressing. The degrees of decreasing was more apparent in the hilling time than in the flowering time. 5. The number of pods per plant, and number and weight of grain per plant were higher when the soybean was planted on May 15, the amount of top dressing increased and hilling time rather than flowering time. Especially, yield component were highest when 6kg of nitrogen was applied during hilling time. Also, the grain yield per 10a showed high significance among treatment, and were high when 6kg of nitrogen was applied during hilling time.
Incidence of the Fusarium wilt caused by F. oxysporum f. sp. vasinfectum of sesame (var. Kwangsan) was remarkably influenced by seeding date and mean air temperature in the field of two or three year's continuous cropping with sesame in 1983 and 1985. Sesame were seeded on six different dates from April 20 to July 5. Air temperature was checked daily at the meteorological station near the experimental field. Low($16{\sim}20^{\circ}C$) and high temperature($20{\sim}25^{\circ}C$) periods were provisionally devided, based on every ten-day mean daily temperature during field experiment for last ten years, which corresponded to before and after June 15 in Jinju, Gyeong-nam. Infection rates were 83.7%, 68.2% and 59.4% in the plants grown for 55 days (seeding date: April 20), 40 days(May 5) and 25 days(May 20) under low temperature. On the other hand, infection rates were below 3% in those plots seeded during high temperature period. The longer the growth period exposed to low temperature, the higher was infection rates. It is interesting to note that 40 days old seedling or older are prone to severe infection compared to the younger ones, in higher temperature of $20{\sim}25^{\circ}C$. Therefore, seedlings in vegetative growth stage are less prone to infection than these in reproductive growth stage. The result showed that air temperature during sesame growth was one of the most important factor affecting the incidence of Fusarium wilt. This suggested that sesame crop, which is of tropical origin, has been predisposed to Fusarium wilt, when the plants were exposed to low temperature of $16{\sim}20^{\circ}C$.
