Calcite twins were analyzed in six oriented samples of the Pungchon limestone, Joseon Supergroup, to reconstruct the paleostress field. The orientations of c-axis of calcite and e twin plane were measured along with the average thickness and numbers of twins, and the widths of calcite grains. Twin strain, mean width, and intensity of twinning, and the relative magnitude and orientations of principal stresses were calculated using Calcite Strain Gauge program. Twin strain, mean width, and intensity of twinning showed ranges of 1.09-15.36%, 0.53-3.72 ㎛ and 21.0-53.1 twim/mm, respectively. Metamorphic temperatures calculated from the twins were 170-200℃, indicating that the twins developed after the Pungchon limestone was uplifted to at least half of the maximum burial depth. Results for five of the samples indicate that the calcite twins formed during two events with principal stress axes of different orientations, while the remaining sample recorded only one event that produced calcite twins. The axis of maximum compressive stress was oriented mainly WNW-ESE to ENE-WSW, and to a lesser degree NW-SE and NE-SW. Comparison of paleostress orientations measured here and in other studies indicates that most twins were produced during the Songrim orogeny. However, the Daebo orogeny and the Bulguksa orogeny also produced calcite twins in the Punchon limestone.

Focusing high marble deposition, Hanwoo feedlot system uses high-energy diet over the prolonged fattening period. However, due to the individual genetic variation, around 40% of them are graded into inferior quality grades (QG), despite they utilized the same resources. Therefore, focusing on development of a nutrigenomic based precision management model, this study was to evaluated the response to the divergent selection on genetic merit for marbling score (MS), under different dietary total digestible nutrient (TDN) levels. Total of 111 calves were genotyped and initially grouped according to estimated breeding value (high and low) for marbling score (MS-EBV). Subsequently, managed under two levels of feed TDN%, over the calf period, early, middle, and final fattening periods following 2 × 2 factorial arrangement. Carcasses were evaluated for MS, Back fat thickness (BFT) and Korean beef quality grading standard. As the direct response to the selection was significant, the results confirmed the importance of initial genetic grouping of Hanwoo steers for MS-EBV. However, dietary TDN level did not show an effect (p > 0.05) on the MS. Furthermore, no genetic-by-nutrition interaction for MS (p > 0.05) was also observed. The present results showed no correlation response on BFT (p > 0.05), which indicates that the selection based on MS-EBV can be used to enhance the MS without undesirable effect on BFT. Ultimate turnover of the Hanwoo feedlot operation is primarily determined by the QGs. The present model shows that the initial grouping for MS-EBV increased the proportion of carcasses graded for higher QGs (QG1++ and QG1+) by approximately 20%. Moreover, there appear to be a potential to increase the proportion of QG 1++ animals among the high-genetic group by further increasing the dietary energy content. Overall, this precision management strategy suggests the importance of adopting an MS based initial genetic grouping system for Hanwoo steers with a subsequent divergent management based on dietary energy level.

This study was conducted to investigate the growth of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) and Korean mint (Agastache rugosa Kuntze) with microbubble in a closed-type plant production system (CPPS) with a deep flow technique (DFT). Lettuce and Korean mint were grown in CPPS for 23 days. Microbubble was treated for 5 minutes daily at 9:00, 13:00, and 17:00 for 16 days. The leaf length, leaf width, leaf area, and fresh and dry weights of lettuce and Korean mint were significantly lower in microbubble than in the control. The total root length, root surface area, and the number of root tips of lettuce and Korean mint were significantly lower in the microbubble than in the control. In the case of average root diameter, there was no difference between the treatments of lettuce. However, Korean mint significantly increased in thickness in the microbubble treatment, indicating variations among the different crops. The results of the research indicated that microbubble treatment in the DFT inhibited plant growth by inducing abiotic stress in lettuce and Korean mint.

The purpose of this study is to recommend the simulation method and procedure of behaviors of CFRD(Concrete Faced Rockfill Dam) concrete face slab with impoundment by centrifuge tests, to examine the effects of the flexural rigidity of the concrete face slab on the face slab deformation from the centrifuge tests, and to evaluate the effects of the stiffness of face supporting zone on the displacement and moment of face slab by numerical analysis which is verified by the centrifuge tests. In this study, the centrifuge tests on the two model dams with the concrete face slab of different flexural rigidity were carried out. Also, the centrifuge tests were simulated by numerical analysis of which input material properties were obtained by the triaxial tests on the model materials. The validity of numerical analysis was evaluated by comparison between the results of centrifuge tests and numerical simulation. The deformation pattern of the concrete face slab was examined with the various stiffness of the face supporting zone by numerical analysis. From the results of centrifuge tests, the effects of face slab thickness on the deformation of face slab were negligible. From the results of centrifuge tests and numerical analysis, it was found that the amplitude of the maximum displacement of face slab and the position where the maximum displacement was mobilized with impoundment were affected by the stiffness of face supporting zone rather than the flexural rigidity of concrete face slab.
Free-vibration and buckling analyses of plate problems are investigated with the aid of the strain gradient notation finite element method (SGN-FEM). As SGN-FEM employs physically interpretable polynomials in developing finite elements, parasitic shear sources, which are the cause of shear locking, can be precisely identified and subsequently eliminated. This allows two mutually complementary objectives to be defined in this work, namely, evaluate the efficiency of free-vibration and buckling results provided by corrected models, and study the severity of parasitic shear effects on plate models performance. Parasitic shear are flexural terms erroneously present in shear strain polynomials. It is reviewed here that six parasitic shear terms arise during the formulation of the four-node Mindlin plate element. Two parasitic shear terms have been identified in the in-plane shear strain polynomial while other two have been identified in each of the transverse shear strain polynomials. The element is corrected a-priori, i.e., during development, by simply removing the spurious terms from the shear strain polynomials. The computational implementation of the element in its two versions, namely, containing the parasitic shear terms (PS) and corrected for parasitic shear (SG), allows for assessments of the accuracy of results and of the deleterious effects of parasitic shear in free vibration and buckling analyses. This assessment of the parasitic shear effects is a novelty of this work. Validation of the SG model is done comparing its results with analytical results and results provided by other numerical procedures. Analyses are performed for square plates with different thickness-to-length ratios and boundary conditions. Results for thin plates provided by the PS model do not converge to the correct solutions, which indicates that parasitic shear must be eliminated. That is, analysts should not rely on refinement alone. For thick plates, PS model results can be considered acceptable as deleterious effects are really critical in thin plates. On the other hand, results provided by the SG model converge well for both thin and thick plates. The effectiveness of the SG model is established via high-accuracy results obtained in several examples. It is concluded that corrected SGN-FEM models are efficient alternatives for free-vibration and buckling analysis of Mindlin plate problems, and that precise elimination of parasitic shear is a requirement for sound analyses.

In January 2022, a new legislation was enforced to enhance the safety of underground construction. Consequently, a comprehensive assessment of underground safety is now an integral part of the planning process, including an evaluation of its impact. Ensuring the stability of temporary retaining walls during underground excavation has become paramount, prompting a heightened focus on the assessment of underground safety. This study delves into the analysis of the Multi-axis Flat Continuous Soil Cement Wall retaining wall (MFS) construction method. This method facilitates the expansion of wall thickness in the ground and provides flexibility in selecting and spacing H-piles. Through laboratory model tests, we scrutinized the load-displacement behavior of the wall, varying the H-pile installation intervals using the MFS method. Additionally, a 3-dimensional numerical analysis was conducted to explore the influence of H-pile installation intervals and sizes on the load for different thicknesses of the MFS retaining wall. The displacement analysis yielded the calculation of the height of the arching effect acting on the wall. To further our understanding, a design method was introduced, quantitatively analyzing the results of axial force and shear force acting on the wall. This involved applying the maximum arching height, calculated by the MFS method, to the existing member force review method. The axial force and shear force, contingent on the H-pile installation interval and size applied to the MFS retaining wall, demonstrated a reduction effect ranging from 24.6% to 62.9%.

As the cell spacing decreases during the scaling process of DRAM(Dynamic Random Access Memory), the reduction in STI(Shallow Trench Isolation) thickness leads to an increase in sub-threshold leakage due to the passing word line effect. The increase in sub-threshold leakage current caused by the voltage applied to adjacent passing word lines affects the data retention time and increases the number of refresh operations, thereby contributing to higher power consumption in DRAM. In this paper, we identify the causes of the passing word line effect through TCAD Simulation. As a result, we confirm the DRAM operational conditions under which the passing word line effect occurs, and observe that this effect alters the proportion of the total leakage current attributable to different causes. Through this, we recognize the necessity to consider not only leakage currents due to GIDL(Gate Induced Drain Leakage) but also sub-threshold leakage currents, providing guidance for improving DRAM structure.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of resin cement shade on the color of different novel ultratranslucent monolithic zirconia and lithium disilicate veneer materials. MATERIALS AND METHODS. For a total of 40 specimens, flat cylindrical discs with a 9-mm diameter and 0.5-mm thickness were created using CAD/CAM technology. The specimens were divided into five groups according to their material (n = 8) (e.max, Prettau, Aidite, Shofu and Dima) using A1 shade. Resin discs with the same diameter and shade as the specimens served as tooth-colored substructures. Three shades (neutral, light and warm) of resin cement try-in pastes (Variolink Esthetic LC) were used as the luting cement material. The color of each material group was measured before and after cementation using the three cement shades, and the CIE L*a*b* coordinates were obtained with a spectrophotometer. Values for the translucency parameter (TP) and color change delta E (E) before (baseline) and after cementation of each specimen were determined. To compare differences among the material groups within each shade of cement and among various shades of cement within each material, the data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and post hoc testing. RESULTS. Color coordinates L*, a* and b* significantly changed after the application of try-in pastes relative to baseline values, with a noticeable decrease in lightness (L*) (P < .05). A significant color change (ΔE) was observed in all tested materials after cementation, with ΔE values exceeding 3.3 (P < .05). Although TP changed after cementation for most materials tested, these changes were not statistically significant (P > .05). Shofu and Dima ceramics showed the lowest TP values, while Aidite and Prettau showed the highest TP values. For e.max, translucency decreased after cementation with neutral and warm shades, and it significantly increased after cementation with a light shade. CONCLUSION. The shade of cement significantly altered the final color of the ceramic veneer material to a level above the threshold at which the clinical perception of color change occurred (> 3.3). The TP was not influenced by the cement shade. The translucency levels of the novel ultratranslucent multilayer monolithic zirconia ceramics Aidite and Prettau were higher than that of the lithium disilicate e.max material.

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary levels of the metabolic energy (ME) on performance, egg quality, and hatchability of Woorimatdag breeder hens during late laying period. A total of eighty Woorimatdag breeder hens were individually housed in cages from 48 to 64 weeks of age. The hens were assigned to two groups with different dietary ME levels: 2,500 kcal/kg and 2,700 kcal/kg. Each group consisted of four replicates of ten birds. The results indicated that the dietary ME levels did not have a significant effect on the body weight and feed intake of the breeder hens. The egg production was significantly (P<0.05) higher in breeder hens fed 2,500 kcal/kg ME than in those fed 2,700 kcal/kg ME from 48 to 52 weeks of age. However, the egg production was shown to be similar values in both groups from 52 to 64 weeks of age. No significant differences were observed between groups with respect to egg weight, eggshell thickness, and eggshell strength of breeder's eggs. There was no difference in the fertility and hatchability between dietary groups. In conclusion, 2,500 kcal/kg of dietary ME could be considered to meet Woorimatdag breeder hens requirement sufficiently during late laying period.

A fabrication process of smart windows with controllable visible light transmittance by using retardation films is proposed. The 𝛌/4-phase retardation films that can convert a linearly polarized light into circularly polarized light are achieved through photo-alignment layers and reactive mesogen (RM) coating process. Two sheets of the fabricated retardation films with different orientation angles induced to light transmission mode (45°/-45°) and light blocking mode (45°/45°) for visible wavelength. We evaluated retardation characteristics according to the thickness of the birefringent RM material and found out the optimal condition for the film with 𝚫n·d of 𝛌/4-phase. The proposed structure of the smart window exhibited the light blocking ratio improved by more than 20% in the visible wavelength (380 nm to 780 nm). Finally, it was confirmed that the feasibility of the window structure by applying to a prototype for a smart window with a size of 150 × 150 mm2.
