The purpose of this study was to conduct factor analysis on Foodservice consumers' lifestyle patterns in dietary life, classify lifestyle patterns, and identify how lifestyle patterns influence the 5 stages of decision making process for purchase. Among 300 copies of the distributed questionnaire, 259 copies were collected for this study. It used a total of 283 copies as the effective samples for empirical analysis except 12 copies with false entries among them. For data analysis, it conducted frequency analysis, validity and reliability analysis, factor analysis, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 12.0. As a result, Hypothesis 1 was significant while Hypothesis 2, 3, and 5 were partially significant. On the contrary, Hypothesis 4 was not significant. Therefore, lifestyle patterns had partially significant effects on decision making process for dining-out purchase. This study subdivided dining-out consumers' lifestyles which were limited to dietary life, and also subdivided decision making process for dining-out consumers' dining-out purchase into five stages. It is significant and very suggestive that this study identified what lifestyle patterns concretely had significant effects on the specific decision making stage. In the future, the researches on adolescent class and silver class should be executed continuously.
The purpose of this study was to categorize dietary lifestyles and analyze intake behavior regarding beverages according to lifestyles of 276 university students in Yeungnam region. Frequency analysis, factor analysis, cluster analysis, reliability analysis, one-way analysis of variance, and ${\chi}^2$ tests were conducted using SPSS V.21.0. Consumers' interest in health is increasing, and health-seeking consumption lifestyles, including comprehensive consumption behaviors related to physical health, mental health, and a healthy dietary lifestyle are becoming increasingly important to many people. The purpose of this study was to develop a health-seeking consumption lifestyle scale that could aid in determining effects of social status, perceived health status, and socio-demographical variables on health-seeking consumption lifestyles. Data were collected via an on-line survey of 500 respondents, all of whom were married women 20 year of age or older. The data were analyzed in terms of frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, factor analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study are as following: First, health-seeking consumption lifestyle demonstrated three main factors: physical health-seeking consumption lifestyle, mental health-seeking consumption lifestyle and healthy dietary life seeking consumption lifestyle. Second, most respondents identified themselves with the middle class and perceived their health status positively. Third, health-seeking consumption lifestyle demonstrated significant differences based on socio-demographical variables. Fourth, health-seeking consumption lifestyle was significantly affected by social class, age, and health status comparisons within similar age groups.
Controlling dietary behaviors and health-related lifestyle habits is important to manage non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM). If NIDDM is not treated properly, the prevalence of macro-vascular complications (MC) may increase. The goal of NIDDM therapy is to maintain normal concentrations of blood glucose and lipid profiles by having regular meals, controlling alcohol drinking, quitting smoking, and performing physical exercise regularly. This study was performed to investigate the dietary and health-related lifestyle habits and blood parameters of NIDDM patients of both genders and compared these characteristics between the patients with and without MC. Our results show that the subjects with MC compared to without MC and the female patients than the males controlled their diets more regularly, tended to regulate the number of meals better, and smoke less than those without MC. Although plasma lipid profiles were not significantly different between the genders and between the subjects with and without MC, the men had higher blood glucose and plasma tHcy concentrations than the women and plasma tHcy concentration was higher in the female subjects without MC. These results imply that the male patients of NIDDM without MC might have more problems in maintaining their blood glucose. In addition, smoking may be the most important life-style factor influencing some blood parameters like blood glucose, HbAlc, and total cholesterol in the NIDDM patients.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a lifestyle modification program for Korean adults with cardiovascular disease risk factors on their health behaviors and health status. Methods: A total of 448 adults with abdominal obesity and additional cardiovascular disease risk factors(high blood pressure, low HDL-cholesterol, high triglyceride or high blood glucose) were randomly assigned to either an intensive intervention group (IIG, n=216) or a minimal intervention group(MIG, n=232). Participants in the IIG received lifestyle modification program which consisted of health counseling with nutrition assessment, health booklet and health diary, while those in MIG received minimal information. Results: The participants in the IIG significantly improved dietary habits(p<.05), retrained eating(p<.001), external eating(p<.01) behaviors, leisure time physical activity(p<.05), dietary self-efficacy(p<.01), exercise self-efficacy(p<.01) and MetS score(p<.001) after 3 months. In addition, the participants in the IIG showed more improvement in dietary habits(p<.05) compared with those in the MIG. Conclusion: The lifestyle modification program was effective in improving some health behaviors, behavioral determinants and cardiovascular risk factors for a short term.
Lifestyle behaviors including dietary habits are well known to play key roles in bone metabolism. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among the factors affecting bone mineral density (BMD) including age, anthropometric parameters, lifestyle behaviors, and dietary habits of men aged more than 50 years. Ninety-one men, who visited health promotion center at one of the university medical centers, were divided into two groups according to the BMD: normal and osteopenia. The BMD of femoral neck in the osteopenia group was significantly lower than that of the normal group ($0.77\;{\pm}\;0.28$ vs. $0.98\;{\pm}\;0.08\;g/cm^2$). The proportion of the regular exercisers was significantly lower in the osteopenia group than in the normal group (p = 0.027). In the osteopenia group, the femoral neck BMD was significantly decreased in smokers and coffee drinkers compared to no-smokers and no-coffee drinkers. The femoral neck BMD was increased among those who consume breakfast and beans and bean products more frequently and those with a greater meal regularity. In the normal group, the lumbar spine BMD was significantly increased among those with frequent consumption of beans and bean products. The lumbar spine BMD was significantly correlated with exercise (r = 0.263), and the femoral neck BMD with weight (r = 0.284), BMI (r = 0.324), relative body weight (r = 0.294), exercise (r = 0.269) and frequency of beans and bean products consumption (r = 0.216). These results indicate that lifestyle behaviors and dietary habits play important roles in maintaining optimum bone health in the middle-aged men.
