  • As an application of ring filters, a new and simple method to determine an inherent-ring-resonance frequency is introduced. The ring filter consists of a ring and two short stubs. They are connected at 90$^{\circ}$ and 270$^{\circ}$ points of the ring and the ring filter may be seen in such way that two filters are connected in parallel. Therefore, if the two powers of the two filters are out-of-phase at the output, the power excited at the input can not be delivered. That can be done by making difference in length of the two short stubs, and when a certain condition is satisfied, a frequency exists where all the excited power is reflected. That is the very inherent-ring-resonance frequency. In the lossless case, the return loss with the condition reaches 0 dB at the inherent-ring-resonance frequency but does not with conductor, dielectric losses and so on. Therefore, the effective loss tangent at a frequency of interest may be obtained correctly. To verify the method, two ring filters have been fabricated in microstrip lines and the measured results show good agreement with the predicted ones.

  • In this study, the capacitance and dielectric loss tangent of the silicone rubber which is combined with filler (30 phr~50 phr) have been measured on the range of 100 Hz~100 kHz and $30{\sim}170^{\circ}C$. It was found that when the frequency is 0.1 kHz~100 kHz and the silicone rubber is combined with 30 phr to 50 phr of filler, the capacitance of silicone rubber has increased by about 28.6 pF to 33 pF in 30 phr of filler, about 20 pF to 46.1 pF in 40 phr of filler and about 36.4 pF to 44 pF in 50 phr of filler. It seems that the volume of dielectric loss has gradually increased due to the temperature rise and the rotating of dipole in electric field through the electric dipole generated by the Si-O group which is induced by adding of filler, or the carbonyl group which is caused by oxidation. It seems that the dielectric dispersion in 0.1 kHz is caused by molecular motion of Siloxane group in main chain, and the dielectric dispersion in 10 kHz is caused by molecular motion of Methyl group in side chain.

  • The $(B_{0.5},Sr_{0.5})TiO_3$ ceramics, which added with low sintering materials $Li_2CO_3$ and ZnBO, was investigated for LTCC(low temperature co-fired ceramic) applications. To compare sintering temperature of $(B_{0.5},Sr_{0.5})TiO_3$ respectively, we added 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5wt% of $Li_2CO_3$ and ZnBO to $(B_{0.5},Sr_{0.5})TiO_3$. For confirming the sintering temperature, the respective specimens were sintered from $750^{\circ}C$ to $1200^{\circ}C$ by $50^{\circ}C$. The case of $Li_2CO_3$ greatly lowered the sintering temperature of $(B_{0.5},Sr_{0.5})TiO_3$ ($1350^{\circ}C$) below $900^{\circ}C$. The addition of ZnBO improved the loss tangent of $(B_{0.5},Sr_{0.5})TiO_3$. The crystalline structure of $LiCO_3$ doped $(B_{0.5},Sr_{0.5})TiO_3$ and ZnBO doped $(B_{0.5},Sr_{0.5})TiO_3$ was analyzed with the X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The dielectric permittivity and loss tangent of $Li_2CO_3$ doped BST and ZnBO doped BST were measured with the HP 4284A precision. From the electrical characterization, we respectively obtained the dielectric permittivity 1361, loss tangent $6.94{\times}10^{-3}$ at $Li_2CO_3$ doped $(B_{0.5},Sr_{0.5})TiO_3$ (3wt%) and the dielectric constant 1180, loss tangent $3.70{\times}10^{-3}$ at ZnBO doped $(B_{0.5},Sr_{0.5})TiO_3$(5wt%).

  • The composition of glasses to be suitable for crystallisation of $BaTiO_3$ by heat-treatment and the dielectric properties of the glass-ceramics were investigated. The composition of the family of glasses was defined by the formula $\chi$ $BaTiO_3 + (100-$\chi$)Al_2O_3$.$2SiO_2$ and excess BaO. Data were presented on dielectric constant and loss tangent at various frequencies. The effects of excess BaO on dielectric properties were investigated. The additions of $Na_2O$ and $Nb_2O_5$ shifted the Curite temperature of these glass-ceramics. The glass composition which was able to be melted at 145$0^{\circ}C$ and moulded as homogeneous glass phase without devitrification should contain $Al_2O_3$.$2SiO_2$ more than 30 mole %. The more the amount of additive BaO increased, the more dielectric constant increased. When the maximum heat-treatment temperature was 105$0^{\circ}C$, we obtained higher dielectric constant than that of 95$0^{\circ}C$. The dielectric constant and the dielectric loss were stable at frequencies between 5$\times$104 and 107 cycle per second. When $Na_2O$ and $Nb_2O_5$ were added, the Curie temperature, presented at 14$0^{\circ}C$ to 15$0^{\circ}C$, shifted to lower temperature. Therefore, the glass-ceramics having high dielectric constant at room temperature were obtained.

  • We have investigated dielectric dispersion and absorption in organic light-emitting diodes using 8-hydroxyquinoline aluminum($Alq_3$) as an electron transport and emissive material. We analyzed the dielectric dispersion and absorption of organic light emitting diodes using impedance characteristics measurement by the auto-balancing bridge technique of ITO/$Alq_3$/Al. Impedance characteristics was measured complex impedance Z and phase e in the frequency range of 40Hz to $10^8Hz$. We obtained dielectric constant and loss tangent (tan $\delta$) of the device. From these analyses, we are able to interpret a dielectric dispersion and dielectric absorption contributed by an interfacial and orientational polarization.

  • In the present investigation, nanocomposite films with poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) as a polymer matrix and barium titanate as a filler were prepared by solution casting method. Barium titanate nano particles were prepared using Ti(IV) triethanolaminato isopropoxide and hydrated barium hydroxide as precursors and tetra methyl ammonium hydroxide (TMAH) as a base. The nanocomposite films were characterized using XRD, FTIR, SEM and dielectric spectroscopy techniques. Dielectric measurements were performed in the frequency range 100 Hz-10 MHz. Dielectric constant of nanocomposites were found to depend on the frequency, the temperature and the filler fraction. Dissipation factors were also influenced by the frequency and the temperature but not much influenced by the filler fractions. The 10 wt% of BT-PMMA nanocomposite had the lowest dielectric constant of 3.58 and dielectric loss tangent of 0.024 at 1MHz and $25^{\circ}C$. The dielectric mixing model of Modified Lichtenecker showed the close fit to the experimental data.

  • We analyzed wideband propagation characteristics of a microstrip transmission line based on FR-4 composite substrate using the wideband complex dielectric constant model and the phenomenological loss equivalence method. The loss calculated by constant relative permittivity and loss tangent is greatly overestimatd compared to that calculated by the frequency-dependent complex relative permittivity. This wideband analysis can be helpful to characterize high-speed and high-density transmission lines associated with the wideband dielectric characteristics and shows that the FR-4 composite substrate has high potential of high frequency circuit applications in terms o fthe propagation loss.

  • The precise measurement technique for dielectric constent of high-loss nonmagnetic materials is described. This technique use6 is based upon cavity resonance method and impedance method. Dielectric constant can be calculated from simple formulas without using transcen-dental equations. The error contained in x-band yields loss tangent, 3%, and dielertric constant, 1%, for materials filled in cross section of waveguide.

  • Composite insulating materials used in outdoor high voltage equipment are required to have high electric performance because of the miniaturization. The frequence dependence of the permittivity and the loss tangent have important information. In this paper we describe the frequency dependence of the permittivity and the loss tangent for epoxy resin filled with silica and the influence of filler shape on the dielectric properties. The increment of tan $\delta$ in the low frequency region is caused by the increment of both of the electrical conductivity and the polarization due to the shape of filler and water sbsorbed in and near the interface between the fillers and resins. Result of charge current and discharge measure, electric conduction increased according to voltage.
