  • In this paper, a new methodology of evolutionary computations - An Adaptive Evolutionary Algorithm (AEA) is proposed. AEA uses a genetic algorithm (GA) and an evolution strategy (ES) in an adaptive manner in order to take merits of two different evolutionary computations : global search capability of GA and local search capability of ES. In the reproduction procedure, the proportions of the population by GA and ES are adaptively modulated according to the fitness. AEA is used to. designing fuzzy logic controller (FLC) for a high-angle-of-attack flight system for a super-maneuverable version of F-18 aircraft. AEA is used to determine the membership functions and scaling factors of an FLC. The computer simulation results show that the FLC has met both robustness and performance requirements.

  • This paper presents the formed tool to machine a milli-structure mold. The formed tool is used to machine the geometrical shape of bearing rubber seal for precision machining. The bearing rubber seal has milli-sized complex geometry. Because it is difficult to machine the unique shape exactly by the conventional tool, the formed tool is used in machining die of the bearing seal. In this paper, it is performed to investigate properties of the formed tool; tool wear, cutting force and machined surface roughness. Tool wear increases rapidly with clearance angle Increase. Thus, the dimension accuracy is affected by the clearance angle.

  • In the previous experimental study about extru-bending of angle product, the bending of extruded angle products with the '${\wedge}$' section and 'ㄱ' section can be abtained by the hot metal extru-bending machine with the two punches moving in the different velocity. The bending curvature can be controlled by the different velocity of billets through the two-hole container. This paper describes simulation of extru-bending process by the difference of punch velocities. The result of the forming simulation by $DEFORM^{TM}-3D$ shows that the bending phenomenon at the die exit during extrusion can be abtained by the two punches moving in the different velocity. And it is possible to design extrusion dies and to control the curvature of product through the simulation of extru-bending process by analysis

  • In this paper, experimental investigation has been performed to analyze the forming process of toothed or serrated sheets, which is used as strap engaging surface of the seal to secure together overlapping portions of steel or plastic strapping ligature. Serration formed on the strap engaging surface of the seal prevent from relative slipping between overlapping ligatures after closing the seal. The geometry of tooth on the strap engaging surface is directly related to the quality of securing overlapping ligatures together. Inclined indentation followed by scratching operation has been proposed and applied to the experiments. Punch entry and face angles are selected as process variables to see the influence of these variables on the tooth geometry. Five different punch entry angles have been applied to experiments and three different punch face angles have been selected for each case of punch entry angle. Clay is selected as model material for experiments. Experimental results are summarized in terms of tooth height, tooth width, and aspect ratio such as tooth height to width ratio, respectively.

  • The objective of this study was presented with a prediction on the alignment of cementite in pearlite lamella structure of high carbon steel by means of finite-element method(FEM) simulation. Pearlite strcuture was characterized by its nano-sized microstructure feature of alternation ferrite and cementite. FEM simulations were performed based on a suitable FE model describing the boundary conditions and the material behavior. With the alignment of lamella structure in high carbon pearlite steel wire, material plastic behavior was taken into account on plastic deformation and alignment of cementite. The effects of many important parameters(reduction in area, semi-die angle, initial angle of cementite ) on wire drawing process were predicted by DEFORM-2D. As the results, the possibility of wire fracture could be considerably reduced and the productivity of final product could be more increased than before.

  • A large variety of pipe flanges are required in the marine and construction industry. Pipe flanges are usually welded or screwed to the pipe end and are connected with bolts. This approach is very simple and has been widely used for a long time; however, it results in high development costs and low productivity, and the products made through this approach usually have safety problems in the welding area. In this research, a new approach for forming pipe flanges based on cold forging and the floating die concept is presented. This innovative approach increases the effectiveness of the material usage and saves time and costs compared with the conventional welding method. To ensure the dimensional accuracy of the final product, finite element analysis (FEA) was carried out to simulate the process of cold forging, and orthogonal experiment methods were used to investigate the influence of four manufacturing factors (stroke of distance, pin die angle, forming of pipe diameter, and speed of the die) and predict the best combination of them. The manufacturing factors were obtained through numerical and experimental studies, which show that the approach is very useful and effective for the forming of pipe flanges and could be widely used in the future.

  • High speed machining (HSM), specifically end milling and ball end cutting, is attracting interest in the die/mold or aerospace industries for the machining of complex 3D surfaces. HSM of difficult-to-cut materials such as die/mold steels, titanium alloys or nickel based superalloys generates the concentrated thermal/frictional damage at the cutting edge of the tool and rapidly decreases the tool life. Following a brief introduction on HSM and reated aerospace or die/mold work, the paper reviews published data on the effect of cutter/workpiece orientation and cutting environments on tool performance. First, experimental work is detailed on the effect of cutter orientation on tool life, cutting forces, chip formation, specific force and workpiece surface roughness. Cutting was performed using 8 mm diameter PVD coated solid carbide cutters with the workpiece mounted at an angle of 45 degree from the cutter axis. A horizontal downwards cutting orientation proveded the best tool life with cut lengths ∼50% longer than for all other directions (horizontal upwards, vertical downwards, vertical upwards). Second, the cutting environments were investigated for dry, flood coolant, and compressed chilly air coolant cutting. The experiments were performed for various hardened materials and various coated tools. The results show that the cutting environment using compressed cilly air coolant provided better tool life than the flood coolant or the dry.

  • Pipe expansion involves various methods to enlarge the diameter of the pipes with the use of a mandrel or punch placed inside the pipe. In this study, the upper bound method was used to analyze the pipe expanding process as well as design a die. A kinematically admissible velocity field was derived for the upper bound analysis with the occurrence of pipe thinning during the expansion factored in. The analysis confirms that a semi-cone angle of the punch between 15ween pip is most advantageous for pipe expansion. The results of the upper bound analysis, which were also consistent with those of the FEM, can be useful for the design of a pipe expansion die.

  • Force balance method is employed to predict forging information such as forging load, tool pressure and normal stress at the surface of tangential velocity discontinuity. The incipient stages of deformation for the plane strain forging of rectangular billets in V-shaped dies of different semi-angles are analysed. To construct an approximate model for the analysis of deformation by the force balance method in the incipient deformation stages, slip-line field is used. When the deformation mode by slip-line method is the same as that by force balance method, the slip-line method and the force balance method give identical solutions. The effects of die angle, coefficient of friction, billet geometries and deforma- tion characteristics are also investigated. In order to verify the validity of force balance analysis, the rigid-plastic finite element simulation for the various forgig parameters are performed and performed and find to be in good agreement.

  • In recent years, there has been a growing need fur productivity improvement of ACS wire (Aluminum clad Steel wire) In optical communication market. So, it is necessary to improve the production speed and following quality of ACS wire to reduce the unit cost of the products. In this study, the pre-heating temperature and cladding speed is chosen as the factors can influence the mechanical and metallurgical properties during cladding, and the changing behavior of mechanical property and microstructure by controlling above two factors are investigated. And the bearing length and approach angle in cladding die are selected as the important elements for designing optimum die enabling high speed cladding. So we carried out FE(Finite Element) analysis using the above two elements as variables. This paper aims to understand the change of mechanical properties and microstructure according to the change of each factor during cladding and suggest the optimized cladding condition to get the best quality of OPGW. And also we would like to introduce the optimum die structure that enables high-speed cladding.
