This study began from the idea that new materials and awareness in the modern society demand new methods in architecture and focused on diagrams as the tool many modern architects use in their process of architectural design. Therefore, the purpose is re-finding the potential of diagrams as profilerating architectural design media by examining mentions of architects about diagrams, investigating diagrams used in design process and treating comments referring to diagrams, by redefining the meaning of the contemporary architecture and of diagrams in architecture, and by grasping the various methods of use and its process. The design process using diagrams produces synthetic or reasonable process dissimilar to previous processes. Where diagrams are mainly used as tools to relate the segregated parts compressively. On the other hand reasonable process concerns reasonable design advancement to satisfy various requirements or conditions in reality, where diagrams are used as tools offering its phase in the whole structure of various information and relating steps of design each other. Dealing synthetically in the various steps of design process with the various properties originally obtained, proposing a new type of architecture by increasing thoughts and leaving the design process open-fluid, offering process and results having the same value as design process, and satisfying requirements in reality most reasonably, diagrams working in the above-mentioned design process have the potential to narrow the schism among theory, practice and criticism in contemporary architecture.
Objectives : This study is to reveal the origin of Mingtangyangfutu in "YiXueRenMen". Methods : This study compares and analyzes it with MingTang diagrams in reference books of "YiXueRenMen", MingTang diagrams and diagrams of bronze statues for acu-moxibustion in those days. Results : The origins of Mingtangyangfutu cannot be found in the citations. The argument that it is copied and simplified from MingTang diagrams in "JinLanXunJing(金蘭循經)" lacks its grounds. As MingTang diagrams in "TongRenShuXueZhengJiuTuJing" and "ZhenJiuJuYing" have less information than it, they were nothing more than references when it drew. Apparel of man, the first acupoint, the last acupoint and orders of acupoints of their meridians in it are different from ones in MingTang diagrams and diagrams of bronze statues for acu-moxibustion. Conclusions : Mingtangyangfutu is not a copied and simplified version of MingTang diagrams in "JinLanXunJing", but is one to add new information for MingTang diagrams in "TongRenShuXueZhengJiuTuJing", "ZhenJiuJuYing", or has a separate rationale (Gajeongdongin(嘉靖銅人) related to at the time.
Objectives : The goal of this paper is to research what affected diagrams of liver originated from Mingtangzangfutu while they were changed. Methods : Diagrams of liver in Traditional Chinese and Japanese medical books had been gathered as many as possible. After they were divided into ones which were originated from Mingtangzangfutu and the others, diagrams originated from Mingtangzangfutu, were again classified into 4 filiations according to Huang Longxiang(黃龍祥)'s standard. Apart from his classification, they were analysed by 4 form factors, e.g. shape, number, veins and petiole of leafs. Results : Reliability of this methods had been confirmed by the correspondence with Huang's 14 standard books, before 29 diagrams of liver were derived from 33 books including 13 books that Huang had already suggested. The lobes of liver in most of diagrams resembled 7 lanceolate or long oval leafs, or a maple leaf with 6 indentations, 4 left lobes and right 3 ones. In most of diagrams, veins of leafs were described variously, and petioles of leafs were drawn more shortly or longer. Analysing 29 diagrams by 4 form factors proved that Huang's classification had crossing features among 4 filiations. This phenomenon implied the painters or doctors drawing diagrams might not convince if the shape of liver was correct or not. Although veins and petiole of leafs in diagrams of liver could be compared with tissues in liver in modern human anatomy, diagrams were not been affected by dissection from Yuan(元) to middle Qing(淸) dynasty. Conclusions : Lingshu(靈樞), Nanjing(難經) and Wang Bing would had constantly acted on 29 diagrams of liver, since diagram of liver originated from Mingtangzangfutu, appeared first in Zhenjiujuying(鍼灸聚英). But they did not come from dissection during same periods.

This study involved an investigation of prospective elementary teachers' preconceptions and experiences of diagrams and their ability to draw diagrams in solving math word problems. A questionnaire and two math word problems were administered to prospective elementary teachers who began to taking an introductory mathematics education course. The results from the analysis of their responses to the questionnaire items indicate that prospective elementary teachers appreciate the value of diagrams as tools for problem solving and communication. In addition, prospective elementary teachers have the will not only to teach their future students how to use diagrams but also to encourage them to draw diagrams in solving math word problems. However, the results also indicates that prospective elementary teachers neither use diagrams spontaneously in their math problem solving activities nor have confidence in drawing useful diagrams. Prospective elementary teachers also manifested low scores on the questionnaire items asking whether they were taught how to draw useful diagrams or encouraged by their teachers to use diagrams in their previous learning experiences. The results from the analysis of the diagrams that prospective elementary teachers drew in solving math word problems showed that most of them had difficulty drawing diagrams that represent their reasoning and solving process.
Purpose : This paper explores the extent to which ZangFu diagrams made after Northern Song Dynasty were influenced by ZangFu diagrams made before Northern Song Dynasty, and how diagrams of the whole body and heart originated from MingTangZangFuTu and affected each other when quoted in books published after Northern Song Dynasty. Method : The author used four form factors including heart shape, internal curved lines, cylinder-like structures above heart, and wuzangxi (五臟系) which resembles a lotus flower which has not yet bloomed, to analyze and compare different ZangFu diagrams before and after the Northern Song Dynasty. Results : Two form factors, the shape of heart and wuzangxi, are described in ZangFu diagrams before Northern Song, and may have influenced ZangFu diagrams after Northern Song. However, the other two form factors (internal curved lines and cylinder-like structures above the heart) did not influence ZangFu diagrams after Northern Song. All form factors of heart found in WuCangLiuFuZhiTu (within the whole body) and diagram of heart in ZhenJiuJuYing (鍼灸聚英) were most similar, but the two paintings became less similar as they were cited in several books. With the exception of the form factor with structures above heart, the three other form factors are almost identical between two paintings produced after Northern Song dynasty, as displayed in the same book. Conclusion : ZangFu diagrams of the heart produced after Northern Song Dynasty, were not completely based on ZangFu diagrams made before Northern Song Dynasty. Diagrams of whole body and those of the heart were changed, while influencing each other after Northern Song.
In an earlier development phase, the simulation technique is one of the key analysis methods for checking the correctness of system's functional requirements. In general, simulation is manually or randomly performed by executing state machine diagrams according to the requirement scenarios. Therefore, simulation is one of the most effort-consuming tasks. In this paper, an automatic simulation technique of state machine diagrams is provided according to the scenarios of the sequence diagrams. It is not easy to generate detailed simulation traces from sequence diagrams due to different abstraction levels between sequence diagrams and state machine diagrams. In order to adjust for different abstraction levels, state machine diagrams and sequence diagrams are transformed into LTS models and compositional analysis and transition reduction are performed. After checking behavior conformance between them, detailed simulation traces for the state machine diagrams are generated. These simulation traces are used not only for performing automatic simulation but also for assisting analyzers to reach a specific system state in order to guide further efficient simulation.

This paper presents the technique on structuring information of the diagram repository for UML diagrams. Because object interactions are the body of object-oriented programming, this paper handles especially the sequence diagrams and class diagrams among UML diagrams. Based on class diagrams, sequence diagrams represent the procedure of object interactions in run-time and then the corresponding codes are generated from the contents of those sequence diagrams. To do this work, this paper presents a method to construct the information repository for generating code from the contents of sequence diagrams. This paper classifies the five message types of sequence diagrams and then extracts the needed information including items and values on the corresponding message types for constructing message repositories. Because sequence diagram is composed of messages included, the final repository is constructed by collecting each of structured repositories on messages sequentially.

A mobile agent system is the most common software paradigm for distributed applications. A software development model to develop efficiently for these systems is needed. Unified Modeling Language (UML) is a widely used software development model to develop a system for Visualizing, Specifying, Constructing, Documenting. However, UML can not describe in explicit way the necessary mobility of the mobile agent-based software systems. In this paper, the interaction diagrams of UML (sequence diagrams and communication diagrams) are extended and used to express the mobility of the mobile agents in three ways. For a case study, we applied the extended diagrams to a distributed file searching using mobile agents, and showed these diagrams can describe the mobility very well.
Recently, as the importance placed on the design phase of system development has increased, the use of diagrams to design the overall system before implementing the actual program code has seen a proportionate increase. This study focuses on the diverse diagrams depicting organizational processes when integrating multiple processes of individual organizations to form an Inter-Organizational System(IOS). In this study, we attempt to identify the critical representation features of process diagrams that enable the effective integration of Inter-Organizational processes. In particular, the effect of the mapping relationship between the representation features of different diagrams to be integrated was tested empirically in a laboratory setting. The experimental task consisted of integrating the processes of two organization based upon the given process diagrams. Actual business processes were selected from real world cases and process diagrams were formulated based upon existing object-oriented notation. An analysis of the errors committed by the subjects during the integration process indicated that the mapping relationship between the diagram features representing the respective organizational processes had a significant impact upon the final integration outcome. Based upon these results, the present study provides a guideline for process diagrams that are crucial to effective Inter-Organizational process implementation and maintenance.
Digital simulation has recently become the preferred method for designing complex and dynamic systems. Simulation packages provide interactive, block-diagram environment for modeling and simulating dynamic models. The block diagrams in simulation models are flowcharts which describe the components of dynamic systems and their interaction. This paper is the first part of the study for determining the seismic behavior of soil systems. The aim of this part is to present the constructed block diagrams for discrete-time analysis of seismic site amplification in layered media for vertically propagating shear waves. Detailed block diagrams are constructed for single and multiple soil layers by considering wave propagation with and without damping, respectively. The block diagrams for recursive filter to model attenuation in discrete-time form are also constructed. Finite difference method is used for strain calculation. The block diagrams are developed by utilizing Simulink which is a software add-on to Matlab.
