We report on a diabetic 52-year-old man who complained ocular floating sensation, headache and dizziness, in whom a left parieto-occipital dural ateriovenous fistulas [DAVFs], fed by bilateral superficial temporal arteries and occipital artery, drained into the cortical vein of the left parieto-occipital convexity. Because the patient's chief complaint was ocular symptom for diabetic retinopathy, we initially didn't consider an DAVFs until brain magnetic resonance imaging [MRI] was done. Diffusion-weighted brain MRI revealed acute cerebral infarction and microhemorrhage in the lesion. Transarterial embolization with mixture of glue and lipiodol obliterated the DAVFs completely. Although the DAVFs fed by multi-arteries, the fistulous portion has been disappeared after embolization via an only left occipital artery Endovascular embolization of the fistula led to symptomatic improvement, except ocular discomfort.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify influencing factors on vision-related quality of life in patients with retinal diseases receiving intravitreal injections by examining relationships among anxiety, depression, coping, eye health behaviors and vision-related quality of life. Methods: One hundred and five outpatients who were diagnosed with macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy were recruited from one university hospital during August 16, 2019 to March 25, 2020. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency and percentage, mean, standard deviation), and t-tests, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson's correlations, and stepwise multiple regressions using the IBM SPSS Statistics 25.0. Results: The vision-related quality of life according to general characteristics of retinal disease patients with intravitreal injection showed significant differences in age (F=3.01, p=.034), subjective economic status (F=5.83, p=.004), types of retinal disease (t=2.62, p=.010), and disease in both eyes (t=-3.04, p=.003). The vision-related quality of life showed a significant positive correlation with age (r=.24, p=.012), and negative correlations with anxiety (r=-.66, p<.001), depression (r=-.48, p<.001), and emotion-focused coping (r=-.20, p=.036). The hierarchical regression analysis indicated that factors affecting vision-related quality of life in patients with retinal diseases were anxiety and subjective economic status, accounting for 47.0% of the variances of the vision-related quality of life. Conclusion: Based on our results, health professionals need to pay attention to patients with low socioeconomic status due to frequent treatments. Also, a program needs to be developed to decrease anxiety for outpatients receiving intravitreal injections to improve their vision-related quality of life.

Diabetes is a condition that can be brought on by a variety of different factors, some of which include, but are not limited to, the following: age, a lack of physical activity, a sedentary lifestyle, a family history of diabetes, high blood pressure, depression and stress, inappropriate eating habits, and so on. Diabetes is a disorder that can be brought on by a number of different factors. A chronic disorder that may lead to a wide range of complications. Diabetes mellitus is synonymous with diabetes. There is a correlation between diabetes and an increased chance of having a variety of various ailments, some of which include, but are not limited to, cardiovascular disease, nerve damage, and eye difficulties. There are a number of illnesses that are connected to kidney dysfunction, including stroke. According to the figures provided by the International Diabetes Federation, there are more than 382 million people all over the world who are afflicted with diabetes. This number will have risen during the years in order to reach 592 million by the year 2035. There are a substantial number of people who become victims on a regular basis, and a significant percentage of those people are uninformed of whether or not they have it. The individuals who are most adversely impacted by it are those who are between the ages of 25 and 74 years old. This paper reviews about various machine learning techniques used to detect diabetes mellitus.

Aldose reductase(AR), a rate-limiting enzyme in the polyol pathway, has been demonstrated to cause the intracellular accumulation of sorbitol or galactitol and hence to play key roles not only in the cataract formation in the lens but also in the pathogenesis of diabetic complications such as neuropathy, retinopathy and nephropathy, etc. In a series of investigations to evaluate potential AR inhibitors from medicinal plants, we have shown that some hot water extracts exhibited a significant inhibition of a significant inhibition of bovine lens AR in vitro. Among active plants, the roots of Angelica dahuria (Umbelliferae) were shown to have relatively potent AR inhibitory activity. Systematic fractionation of the ether soluble fraction monitored by bioassay led to isolation of two furanocoumarins, byakangelicin(I) and ter-O-methyl byakangelicin( II), were identified as potential AR inhibitors, their $IC_{50}$ values being 6.2 M and 2.8 M, respectively.

The zebrafish (Danio rerio) is an established model organism for several pathophysiological conditions which are related to human diseases. In this study, we tested the preventive effect of eight herbal extracts, which show the inhibitory effect of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) or aldose reductase (AR) in our previous study, on high glucose (HG)-induced retinal vessel dilation in larval zebrafish and analyzed the change of hyaloid vasculature. HG-induced zebrafish hyaloid vasculatures were significantly increased in the thickness compared to untreated zebrafish (P<0.001, n=6~10). Eight herbal extracts were found to have significant retinal vessel dilation on the inhibitory activity. Particularly, Brandisia hancei (twigs and fruits), Castanopsis orthacantha (leaves and twigs), Litsea japonica (leaves and twigs), Spenceria ramalana (whole plant), and Synedrella nodiflora (leaves and stems) showed potent inhibitory activity against retinal vessel dilation in HG-induced larval zebrafish.

Diabetic retinopathy is a complicated form of diabetes due to circulatory disorder in the peripheral blood vessels of the retina. We segment the microvessel for diagnosing diabetic retinophathy. The conventional methods using filter and features can segment the thick blood vessels, but it has relatively weak for segmenting fine blood vessels. In pre-processing step, noise reduction filter and histogram equalization are applied to suppress the noise and enhance the image contrast. Then, deep learning technique is used for pixel-by-pixel segmentation. The accuracy of conventional methods is between 90% to 94%, while the proposed method has improved as 95% accuracy. There is a problem of segmentation error around the optic disc and exudate due to the network depth. However the accuracy can be improved by modifying the network architecture in the future.
Artificial intelligence-based health data verification has become an essential element not only to help clinical research, but also to develop new treatments. Since the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the marketing of medical devices that detect mild abnormal diabetic retinopathy in adult diabetic patients using artificial intelligence in the field of medical diagnosis, tests using artificial intelligence have been increasing. In this study, an artificial intelligence model based on image classification was created using a Teachable Machine supported by Google, and a predictive model was completed through learning. This not only facilitates the early detection of cataracts among eye diseases occurring among patients with chronic diseases, but also serves as basic research for developing a digital personal health healthcare app for eye disease prevention as a healthcare program for eye health.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder, characterized by varying or persistent hyperglycemia, which induces several changes in the erythrocyte membrane and its cytoplasm, leading to alteration in the deformability. Techniques applied to measure this are based on filtration of erythrocyte suspension through a membrane and to obtain diffraction pattern under sheared conditions. Ektacytometry requiring less quantity of blood with disposable flow chamber used to measure the deformability of erythrocytes obtained from patients with diabetes and also associated with nephropathy and retinopathy. A decreasing trend of deformability in these patients is observed. The shape parameter form factor, as determined by image processing procedure, increases with the increased of blood glucose levels and shows a pattern similar to filtration time of erythrocyte suspensions through cellulose membranes. Further work is suggested to detect micro-level changes in cell membrane in diabetic patients
The CCN protein family is composed of six matricellular proteins, which serve regulatory roles rather than structural roles in the extracellular matrix. First identified as secreted proteins which are induced by oncogenes, the acronym CCN came from the names of the first three members: CYR61, CTGF, and NOV. All six members of the CCN family consist of four cysteine-rich modular domains. CCN proteins are known to regulate cell adhesion, proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. In addition, CCN proteins are associated with cardiovascular and skeletal development, injury repair, inflammation, and cancer. They function either through binding to integrin receptors or by regulating the expression and activity of growth factors and cytokines. Given their diverse roles related to the pathology of certain diseases such as fibrosis, arthritis, atherosclerosis, diabetic nephropathy, retinopathy, and cancer, there are many emerging studies targeting CCN protein signaling pathways in attempts to elucidate their potentials as therapeutic targets.
Angiogenesis refers to the formation of new capillary blood vessels, or neovascularization occurring under various physical conditions, such as development of the embryo, formation of corpus luteum, wound healing and pathological conditions including tumor growth and metastases, hemangiomas, diabetic retinopathy, rheumatoid arthritis. There are many evidences that angiogenesis is important for the progressive growth of solid tumors and also permits the shedding of metastatic tumors from the primary site. Thus, treatment of angiogenesis inhibitors might be a novel strategy for tumor growth inhibition. Normal vascular endothelial cells are in a state of differentiation and angiogenic endothelial cells migrate and proliferate, and they subsequently differentiate into vessel-forming quiescent phenotype cells, Therfore, it was speculated that a modifier of cell differentiation could also affect angiogenesis. In order to identify new antiangiogenic factors, the research was conducted to estimate the inhibitory activities of cell differentiation agents by means of chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane(CAM) assay. Hence, we have established the CAM assay for the screening of antiangiogenic agents. Using the CAM assay, we found that ursolic acid, a tumor cell differentiation-inducing agent, showed a markedly inhibitory effect on chick embryonic angiogenesis.
