  • Measurement of cardiac output by thermodilution method is easy to perform and can be repeated at very short intervals and offers a number of theoretical and practical advantages. The purpose of this paper is to reevaluate the accuracy and reproducibility of the thermodilution cardiac output by comparing the results with those obtained by the direct Fick technique. From January through April 1981 [4 months], 26 simultaneous cardiac output measurements were made using thermodilution and direct Fick methods in 12 patients in the intensive care unit of Severance Hospital following open heart surgery. The average age of the patients was $34.8{\pm}12.0$ [SD] years [range; 17-57 years]. For cardiac output determination by thermodilution technique [$CO_TD$], a Swan-Ganz Thermodilution Catheter, Model 93A-131-7F [Edwards Laboratories], a Cardiac Output Computer, Model 9520A, and Strip Chart Recorder, Model 9810 [Edwards Laboratories] were used. For the determination of cardiac output by direct Fick principle [$CO_Fick$], a Van Slyke Manometric Apparatus [Thomas] for the measurements of arteriovenous oxygen content difference and a Collin`s Respirometer with Kymograph for the measurement of oxygen consumption were used. The correlation between the simultaneously measured $CO_TD$ and $CO_Fick$ was found to be $CO_Fick$ = 0.95.$CO_TD$ + 0.1073, [r= 0.9777, P < 0.001 ]. For 26 double or triple determinations of $CO_TD$, the values ranged from 1.77 L/min to 6.66 L/min, with a reproducibility of 2.18%. The maximum difference of $CO_TD$ for $CO_Fick$ was between +11.99% and -12,99% [$Mean{\pm}SD$ = $6.07{\pm}3.97$%]. Measurement of cardiac output by thermodilution method provides a simple, rapid, reproducible and highly accurate method for multiple cardiac output measurements suitable for use at the bedside. • Rapid and simple method was developed for simultaneous determination of vitamins A and E contents in infant formula. Vitamins A and E were extracted by PDA-HPLC with reversed phase column using organic solvent, and their contents in Certified Reference Material (CRM) and infant formula were determined and compared with results of Food Standards Codex and AOAC method for evaluation of developed method, Vitamins A and E contents in CRM determined by developed method were within certified range of standard values. Developed method has great advantages of simple and rapid sample preparation and simultaneous determination of vitamins A and E by PDA-HPLC using reversed phase column.

  • This study is concerned with the loss rate calculation for evaluating the safety of aircraft series. The objective of this study is to provide the estimation method of safety for the determination of aircraft series, when the aircraft is directly purchased off-the-shelf or co-produced. Especially, in case the initial operation capabilities of alternative aircrafts are substantially different, this research proposes the modified cumulative average method which can effectively estimate the safety of aircraft.

  • This work presents a method for the determination of the safety factor of a slope based on the theory of the calculus of variations. The method allows for the determination of the critical sliding line (The one giving the minimum safety factor) without the necessity of guessing about its shape, which leads to a considerable economy of time and effort. Furthermore it gives the actual safety factor of the slape and consequently a more complete knowledge of the safety of the slope is obtained.

  • Gentamicin sulfate reacted with pyridoxal and zinc (II) ion in pyridine-methanol solution to yield highly fluorescent zinc(II) chelates of N-pyridoxylidene derivatives. This fluorescence reaction was sensitive and showed excitation maximum at 398nm, and emission maximum at 482nm. The effects of reagent concentration, reaction time and temperature, standing time and temperature were studied. And a new fluorophotometric method for the determination of gentamicin sulfate was developed. A good result was obtained and this method was applied to various preparations.

  • The determination method of l-ephedrine and dl-methylephedrine by gas chromatography was developed, using reactive alkaline precolumn packed with celite 545 containing KOH. Symmetrical peaks were achieved under the condition, inlet temperature, $180^{\circ}C$-$230^{\circ}C$; column temperature, $180^{\circ}C$- $160^{\circ}C$; carrier gas flow rate, 30ml/minute. The peaks of the salts coincided with those of bases. When this method was applied to preparations, using d-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde as inner standard, good results were obtained. The relative retention times of l-ephedrine and dl-methylephedrine to p-dimethyl aminobenzaldehyde were 0.50 and 0.65 respectively.

  • The new useful method for the direct determination of trace boron in iron matrix was studied by applying the precipitation of $Fe(OH)_3$ and ICP-AES. Optimum pH range was 11 ~ 12.5. Linear concentration range of boron was $0.01{\sim}1.0{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ in $5000 {\mu}g/m{\ell}$ solution as iron.

  • Taguchi's parameter design is a method for quality improvement by making the performance fo a system robust to noise. Parameter design with dynamic characteristics has been recently the subject of much interest. This paper is concerned with a review and a generalization of the Signal-to-Noise (SN) ratio, a quality measure for parameter design with dynamic characteristics, proposed by Taguchi. We present a method for determination and analysis of the generalized SN ratio and illustrate its implementation by example.

  • Isotopic-spectral method [I] was applicated for determination of carbon in silicate materials (pure silica, guartz glasses, geological probs etc.). Isotopic heterogeneous balancing of carbon in gaseous phase and solid samples was carried out at the temperature of $1500-1900^{\circ}K$. Spectroscopic measuring of isotope concentration in a balanced gas was made using the electron-vibrational band heads of CO molecules excited in HF discharge. Limits of detection of carbon concentrations appear to be $n^*10^{-6}$.

  • A method to deduce the rotational magnetization curve from experimental magnetization of partially aligned uniaxial anisotropy system has been investigated. The curve obtained by this process has been evaluated quire close to the theoretical magnetization curve compared to that obtained by linear extrapolation from high field data. This new approach offers better accuracy for the determination of magnetic anisotropy by fitting a calculated magnetization curve to the obversed one.
