  • This research aims to develop an elementary school English e-learning system based on the 'Self-determination theory (SDT)', which is widely applied to traditional face-to-face foreign language classes. The study also attempts to verify whether SDT-a traditional motivational theory that has been applied to face-to-face classes- is effective in an e-Learning environment with students who use this newly developed system. For the purposes of this project, the following three actions were carried out. First, a motivational strategy based on SDT was deduced. In SDT, the needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness were introduced as basic psychological needs, and assumed that these three needs provided the natural motivation for learning, growth, and development. Second, an e-Learning system was created based on the deduced motivational strategy. Third, the system was implemented in 115 private tuition academies, and education was provided to 1,400 users for one year across the country. Afterwards, by surveying users, correlation between the role of the three psychological needs in learning English, and also the correlation between each need and motivation were investigated. Research results showed that traditional motivational theories used in face-to-face classes so far were effective in an e-Learning environment.

  • We analyzed the reddening of 873 bright G and K stars from the DDO photometry in combination with MK spectral classes and (B-V) colors. About a quarter of the sample stars have DDO indices beyond the limits of DDO calibrations. To extend the reddening determination to all stars, we applied a scheme for reddening determination of field G and K stars by using the DDO calibrations (Janes 1977, 1979b) and MK-(B-V) relation of FitzGerald (1970).

  • Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) is online education that anyone can register for free and has internet access. MOOC is also called Education Revolution and is spreading rapidly all over the world. Although recent MOOC high-quality classes may enhance the value of MOOC, MOOC learning still needs much research. Since MOOC has low learning completion rate and continuous use rate, various studies on the reasons that learners give up at the beginning of learning have not been tried yet This research is studied for the continuous intention of use of MOOC applying self-determination theory and learning flow theory based on technology acceptance model. In particular, the research are conducted for cultural difference in continuous usage of MOOC between Korean and Chinese. The research results show that self-determination theory applying perceived autonomy, perceived competence, and perceived relatedness and learning flow is useful to explain continuous use of MOOC. The research also shows that Hofstede theory works well in explaining the cultural difference between Korea and China in continuous usage of MOOC. The result shows that korean is more influenced by perceived external motivation like perceived usefulness and chinese is more influenced by internal motivation like learning flow in continuous use of MOOC.

  • Various classes of phospholipids were investigated for the structural determination of fatty acyl groups by fast atom bombardment tandem mass spectrometry (FAB-MS/MS). Phospholipids were desorbed by FAB as molecules chelated with sodium ion (or ions). Collision-induced dissociation (CID) of intact sodium adduct molecular ions ([M+Na]+, [M-H+2Na]+ or [M+Na-2H]-) produced a series of homologous fragment ions via the charge-remote fragmentation along the fatty acid chains. These ions were found useful to locate the double bond positions even for the polyunsaturated fatty acid chains. The regiospecificity of the acyl chain linkages in phosphatidylcholine (PC) could also be determined based on the ratio of relative abundance of the product ions (i.e., [M+Na-85-R2COOH]+ vs [M+Na-85-R1COOH]+) in CID-MS/MS of [M+Na]+. These are generated by the loss of fatty acyl groups at sn-1 and sn-2, respectively, together with the choline group. In all the phospholipid compounds investigated, loss of the fatty acid at the sn-2 position was dominant. The present method was applied to the structural determination of molecular species of phosphatidylglycerols (PG) isolated from cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803.

  • In this study, a measure of discrepancy based on MV (margin of victory) has been suggested that might be useful in determining the size of random forest for classification. Here MV is a scaled difference in the votes, at infinite random forest, of two most popular classes of current random forest. More specifically, max(-MV,0) is proposed as a reasonable measure of discrepancy by noting that negative MV values mean a discrepancy in two most popular classes between the current and infinite random forests. We propose an appropriate diagnostic statistic based on this measure that might be useful for the determination of random forest size, and then we derive its asymptotic distribution. Finally, a simulation study has been conducted to compare the performances, in finite samples, between this proposed statistic and other recently proposed diagnostic statistics.

  • This paper presents an efficient construction method of determination rules of thematic roles from syntactic relations in Korean language processing. This process is one of the main core of semantic analysis and an important issue to be solved in natural language processing. It is problematic to describe rules for determining thematic roles by only using general linguistic knowledge and experience, since the final result may be different according to the subjective views of researchers, and it is impossible to construct rules to cover all cases. However, our method is objective and efficient by considering large corpora, which contain practical osages of Korean language, and case frames in the Sejong Electronic Lexicon of Korean, which is being developed by dozens of Korean linguistic researchers. To determine thematic roles more correctly, our system uses syntactic relations, semantic classes, morpheme information, position of double subject. Especially by using semantic classes, we can increase the applicability of the rules.

  • In Object-Oriented Paradigm, various cohesion measurements have been studied taking into account reference relation among components - like attributes and methods - that belong to a class. In addition, a number of methods have taken into research utilizing manual analysis, that is performed by developer's intuition and experience, and automatic analysis in refactoring field. The verification of objective criteria is demanded in order to process automatic refactoring. In this paper, we propose a method exploiting logistic regression and neural network for analysis of the relationship between six factors considering reference relation and method location among classes. Experimental results demonstrate that the logistic regression predicts the results up to 97% and the neural network predicts the outcomes up to 90%. Hence, we conclude that the logistic regression based method is more effective to predict the method location. Moreover, more than 90% of experimental results from both methods show that the six factors used in Move Method in refactoring are suitable to be used as an objective criteria.

  • Biomass determination of species-specific in forest ecosystem by semi-destructive measures requires the development of allometric equations; predict aboveground biomass observable independent variables such as, Diameter at Breast Height, Height, and Volume are crucial role. There has not been equation of this type in mountain Chuqala natural forest. In this study two species namely, Hypericum revolutum Vahl. & Maesa lanceoleta Forssk. with tree diameter classes (15-20, 20.5-25, and 25.5-35 cm), with the purpose of conducting allometric equations were characterized. Each species assumed considered individually. For the linear model fit the two observed variable DBH, H and V were preferred for the prediction of above ground biomass. The best fitted model choose among the two formed model were identified using Akaike Information Criterion (AIC), and $R^2$ and adjacent $R^2$. Based on this the best fit model for Hypericum revolutum Vahl. was AGB=-681.015+4,494.06 (DBH), and for Maesa lanceoleta Forrsk. was. AGB=-936.96+5,268.92 (DBH).
