  • In this paper we present a new formula which can predict the exact detection probability of a generalized order statistics (GOS) constant false alarm rate (DFAR) detector for a partially correlated Rayleigh target model (0 < $ \rho$< 1) in a closed form, where $\rho$ is the correlation coefficient between returned pulses. By simply substituting a set of specific coefficient into the derived formula, one can obtain the detection probability of any kind of CFAR detector. Detectors may include the order statistics CFAR detector, the censored mean level detector, and the trimmed mean CFAR detector, but are not necessarily restricted to them. The numerical result for the first order Markov correlation model as applied to some of the detectors shows that as $\rho$ increases from zero to one, higher signal-to-noise ratio is required to achieve the same detection probability.

  • Identification of steady-state is the first step in developing a fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) system. In a complete FDD system, the steady-state detector will be included as a module in a self-learning algorithm which enables the working system's reference model to "tune" itself to its particular installation. In this study, a steady-state detector of a residential air conditioner based on moving windows was designed. Seven representing measurements were selected as key features for steady-state detection. The optimized moving window size and the feature thresholds was suggested through startup transient test and no-fault steady-state test. Performance of the steady-state detector was verified during indoor load change test. From the research, the general methodology to design a moving window steady-state detector was provided for vapor compression applications.

  • The asymptotic performance of the two-sample locally optimum rank detector for random signals buried in signal-dependent noise and additive noise is consigered in this paper. It is shown that the locally optimum rank detector, a nonparametric detector, has reasonable asymptotic performance for a class of correlated random signals, compared with the locally optimum detector. It is noteworthy that the the two-sample locally optimum rank detector perform almost the same with the one-sample locally optimum rank detector.

  • This study examined a method for designing the optical cavity of a non-dispersive infrared gas detector. The infrared gas detector requires an optical cavity design to lengthen the ray path. However, the optical cavity with multiple reflecting surfaces has off-axis aberration due to the characteristics of the reflecting optical system. The rays were parallelized by using the off-axis parabolic mirror to easily increase the ray path and eliminate off-axis aberration so that the rays are admitted to the effective area of the infrared detector uniformly. A prototype of an infrared gas detector was produced with the designed optical cavity to confirm the performance.

  • The Cd0.95Mn0.05Te0.98Se0.02 (CMTS) ingot was grown by the vertical Bridgman technique at low pressure. All wafers showed high resistivity, which suggests potential as a room-temperature semiconductor detector. The resistivity of the CMTS planar detector was 1.47 × 1010 Ω·cm and mobility lifetime product of electrons was 1.29 × 10-3 cm2/V. The spectroscopic property with Am-241 and Co-57 was evaluated. The energy resolution about 59.5 keV gamma-ray of Am-241 was 11% and the photo-peak of 122 keV gamma-ray from Co-57 was clearly distinguished. The result shows the first detector-grade CMTS in the world and proves CMTS's potential as a radiation detector operating at room temperature.

  • In this study, we have studied the fabrication and the performance evaluation of digital radiation detector of the based on selenium (a-Se) prototype which is widely researched about recently. The detector was fabricated using amorphous selenium in the specification of active area size $7{\times}8.5"$, pixel pitch $139{\mu}m$, and 12 bit ADC. In order for the performance evaluation of the fabricated detector, we used radiation quality RQA 5 that is suggested by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and evaluated modulation transfer function (MTF), noise power spectrum (NPS), and detective quantum efficiency (DQE). Concerning MTF measurement, we used slit camera (Nuclear Associates, Model : 07-624-2222), and evaluated in the slit method. Also so as to compare the performance evaluation on the detector fabricated in this study, we used Hologic Direct-Ray (DR-1000) and GE Revolution XQ/I system, and evaluated and compared in the same method MTF, NPS, and DQE which are image quality factors. And as a result, the MTF of each detector In Nyquist frequency were evaluated to be 58% (at 3.5 lp/mm) in the case of DR-1000 and 65% (at 2.5 lp/mm) in the case of XQ/I, and that for the detector fabricated in this study was evaluated to be 36% (at 3.51 lp/mm). Also in the case of DQE(0), the detector fabricated in this study, DR-1000 of Hologic company, and XQ/I system of GE company respectively were evaluated as 36%, 32%, and 50%.

  • In this paper, we have introduced the x-ray detector built with a CsI:Na scintillation layer deposited on amorphous selenium. To determine the thickness of the CsI:Na layer, we have estimated the transmission spectra and the absorption of continuous x-rays in diagnostic range by using computer simulation (MCNP 4C). A x-ray detector with 65 ${\mu}m$-CsI:Na/30 ${\mu}m$-Se layer has been fabricated by a thermal evaporation technique. SEM and PL measurements have been performed. The dark current and x-ray sensitivity of the fabricated detector has been compared with that of the conventional a-Se detector with 100 ${\mu}m$ thickness. Experimental results show that both detectors exhibit a similar dark current, which was of a low value below $400 pA/cm^2$ at 10 V/${\mu}m$. However, the CsI:Na-Se detector indicates high x-ray sensitivity, roughly 1.3 times that of a conventional a-Se detector. Furthermore, a CsI:Na-Se detector with an aluminium reflective layer shows a 1.8 times higher x-ray sensitivity than an a-Se detector. The hybrid type detector proposed in this work exhibits a low dark current and high x-ray sensitivity, and, in particular, excellent linearity to the x-ray exposure dose.

  • Nowadays many people have an interest in facial expression and the behavior of people. These are human-robot interaction (HRI) researchers utilize digital image processing, pattern recognition and machine learning for their studies. Facial feature point detector algorithms are very important for face recognition, gaze tracking, expression, and emotion recognition. In this paper, a cascade facial feature point detector is used for finding facial feature points such as the eyes, nose and mouth. However, the detector has difficulty extracting the feature points from several images, because images have different conditions such as size, color, brightness, etc. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an algorithm using a modified cascade facial feature point detector using a convolutional neural network. The structure of the convolution neural network is based on LeNet-5 of Yann LeCun. For input data of the convolutional neural network, outputs from a cascade facial feature point detector that have color and gray images were used. The images were resized to $32{\times}32$. In addition, the gray images were made into the YUV format. The gray and color images are the basis for the convolution neural network. Then, we classified about 1,200 testing images that show subjects. This research found that the proposed method is more accurate than a cascade facial feature point detector, because the algorithm provides modified results from the cascade facial feature point detector.

  • In this paper, we propose a detector generation model which is applied to immune system to improve the misuse detection rates in misuse detection models. 10cv method is used to sendmail data which is provided by the DARPA. We experimented and analyzed the misuse detection rate that is either judgment of the normal system call as abnormal system call or judgment of the abnormal system call as normal system call. In the experiment, between detector which was generated by any abnormal system call and temporary detector. I did experiments with a new detector which was removed temporary detector which made a wrong decision for normal system call as an abnormal system call and abnormal system call as a normal system call. The misuse detection rate of detector which is applied to the immune system is greater than the other detector by 0.3%.

  • In this paper, a compact L-shaped shorted pin patch to be used at local oscillator port in radar detector is proposed. Shorted pin patch operates as short-open cavity while conventional patch operates as open-open cavity. Shorted pins are L-shaped to obtain quarter wave length and three-quarter wave length resonance for the fundamental(X-band) and $2^{nd}(3^{rd})$(K- and Ka-band) mode resonance frequency, respectively. Thus, the proposed patch can be compact. It is also possible to operate at triple band(X-, K-, Ka-band) with small return loss in radar detector, It is expected that shorted pin patch could improve radar detector sensitivity.
