  • This study focuses on the damage detection of defect types in plate structures based on wavelet transform (WT) and curvelet transform (CT). In particular, for damage detection of structures these transforms have been developed since the last few years. In recent years, the CT approach has been also introduced in an attempt to overcome inherent limitations of traditional multi-scale representations such as wavelets. In this study, the performance of CT is compared with WT in order to demonstrate the capability of WT and CT in detection of defect types in plate structures. To achieve this purpose, the damage detection of defect types through defect shape in rectangular plate is investigated. By using the first mode shape of plate structure and the distribution of the coefficients of the transforms, the damage existence, the defect location and the approximate shape of defect are detected. Moreover, the accuracy and performance generality of the transforms are verified through using experimental modal data of a plate.

  • In recent years, using computer networks (wired and wireless networks) has been widespread in many applications. As computer networks become increasingly complex, the accompanied potential threats also grow to be more sophisticated and as such security has become one of the major concerns in them. Prevention methods alone are not sufficient to make them secure; therefore, detection should be added as another defense before an attacker can breach the system. Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) have become a key component in ensuring systems and networks security. An IDS monitors network activities in order to detect malicious actions performed by intruders and then initiate the appropriate countermeasures. In this paper, we present a survey and taxonomy of intrusion detection systems and then evaluate and compare them.

  • In this paper, we developed an algorithm to detect arc of PV power plant through frequency analysis. For arc detection based on frequency analysis, the filter should be designed to emphasize the difference between the arc state and the normal state. Therefore, in this paper, we analyzed the arc detection performance according to various filter structures. The arc detection algorithm developed in this paper extracts the filtering signal on current by using various filters and then calculates the frequency components and total energy using the FFT. In the final step, the arc is detected using the calculated energy magnitude. In order to verify the performance of the proposed arc detection algorithm, experiments were conducted on 51 kW solar inverters connected to power line. Through various experiments, it was confirmed that the proposed method effectively detects the arc.

  • In this paper, we propose a modified Viterbi algorithm to compensate for endpoint detection error during the decoding phase of an isolated word recognition task. Since the conventional Viterbi algorithm explores only the search space whose boundaries are fixed to the endpoints of the segmented utterance by the endpoint detector, the recognition performance is highly dependent on the accuracy level of endpoint detection. Inaccurately segmented word boundaries lead directly to recognition error. In order to relax the degradation of recognition accuracy due to endpoint detection error, we describe an unconstrained search of word boundaries and present an algorithm to explore the search space with efficiency. The proposed algorithm was evaluated by performing a variety of simulated endpoint detection error cases on an isolated word recognition task. The proposed algorithm reduced the Word Error Rate (WER) considerably, from 84.4% to 10.6%, while consuming only a little more computation power.

  • This paper presents a study on the analysis for activation time and threshold value of heat detection sensor using HRR(Heat Release Rate). And it is represented to quantity of heat to activate heat detection sensor. The experiment is conducted to measure activation time and HRR of fire detection sensor burning alcohol and n-heptane. In order to burn the alcohol and n-heptane using $43.5cm(L){\times}43.5cm(W){\times}5cm(D)$ and $33cm(L){\times}33cm(L){\times}5cm(D)$ steel pan and the quantity of alcohol and n-heptane are 2.5 L and 650 g, respectively. The results show that peak HRR are in case of alcohol 66.13 kW and in case of n-heptane 151.64 kW, respectively. Total heat releases of heat detection sensor are in case of alcohol approximately 20.7 MJ and in case of n-heptane approximately 18 MJ, respectively.

  • With improvement of speech recognition and natural language processing, dialog systems are recently adapted to various service domains. It became possible to get desirable services by conversation through the dialog system, but it is still necessary to improve separate modules, such as domain detection, intention detection, named entity recognition, and out-of-domain detection, in order to achieve stable service offer. When it misclassifies an in-domain sentence of conversation as out-of-domain, it will result in poor customer satisfaction and finally lost business. As there have been relatively small number of studies related to the out-of-domain detection, in this paper, we introduce a new method using a hierarchical Dirichlet process and demonstrate the effectiveness of it by experimental results on Korean dataset.

  • Detection of outliers deviating normal data distribution in high dimensional data is an important technique in many application areas. In this paper, a distance-based outlier detection method using landmarks in high dimensional data is proposed. Given normal training data, the k-means clustering method is applied for the training data in order to extract the centers of the clusters as landmarks which represent normal data distribution. For a test data sample, the distance to the nearest landmark gives the outlier score. In the experiments using high dimensional data such as images and documents, it was shown that the proposed method based on the landmarks of one-tenth of training data can give the comparable outlier detection performance while reducing the time complexity greatly in the testing stage.

  • Impulsive acoustic and vibration signals within rotating machinery are often induced by irregular impacting. The detection of these impulses can be useful for fault diagnosis purposes. Recently there has been an increasing trend towards the use of higher order statistics for fault detection within mechanical systems based on the observation that impulsive signals tend to increase the kurtosis values. This paper considers the use of the third and fourth order Wigner moment spectra, called the Wigner bi- and tri- spectra receptively, for analysing such signals. Expressions for the auto-and cross-terms in these distributions are presented and discussed. It is shown that the Wigner trispectrum is a more suitable analysis tool and it performance is compared to its second order counterpart for detecting impulsive signals. These methods are also applied to measured data sets from an industrial gearbox.

  • In this paper, in order to apply the idea MDPSK to TCM, we use signal set expansion and set partition by phase differences. Through this we propose the trellis-coded MDPSK. And the Viterbi decoder containing branch metrics of the squared Euclidean distance of the Lth order phase difference as well as the first order phase difference is introduced in order to improve the bit error rate(BER) in the differential detection of the trellis-coded MDPSK. The proposed Viterbi decoder is conceptually same to the sliding multiple symbol dection method which uses the branch metric with the first and Lth order phase differences. We investigate the performance of the uncoded DQPSK and the trallis-coded D8PSK in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) through the Monte Carlo simulation under the two cases of using and not using the Lth order phase difference metric. The study shows that trellis-coded 8DPSK is an attractive scheme for power and bandlimited systems while also improving the BER performance when the Viterbi decoder is employed to the Lth order phase order difference metric. This performance improvement has been obtained without sacrificing the bandwidth or the power efficiency.

  • Edge detection is one of image processing techniques applied for a variety of purposes in a number of areas and it is used as a necessary pretreatment process in most applications. In the conventional edge detection methods, there are Sobel, Prewitt, Roberts and LoG, etc using a fixed weights mask. Since conventional edge detection methods apply the images to the fixed weights mask, the edge detection characteristics appear somewhat insufficient. Therefore in this study, an algorithm for detecting the edge is proposed by applying the cross mask based on the center pixel and up, down, left and right mask based on the surrounding pixels of center pixel in order to solve these problems. And in order to assess the performance of proposed algorithm, it was compared with a conventional Sobel, Roberts, Prewitt and LoG edge detection methods.
