  • Desuperheater is a passive device to control the temperature of steam in various plants. However, in spite of its simple structure, the accurate prediction of a desuperheater is very difficult because there are many designed factors for the design of a desuperheater. In this study, the theory of heat transfer phenomena in a desuperheater was developed and the various design factors are evaluated. As a results, we confirmed that the droplet size of 30 - 200 is best effective for the performance of a desuperheater.

  • The important use of the desuperheater(multi spray type) changes the superheated steam into the saturated steam. It is more efficient and suitable for using the process. Also, it is more convenient and stable regarding the process temperature control. In this study, transient and quasi-static analysis were done for the evaluation of structural integrity of the multi spray type desuperheater of the power plant. Computational analysis was used to calculate the thermal stress, and the vibration test was done to evaluate the structural stability. This paper is verified by analysis that water spray nozzle(${\phi}=28mm$) shows the best ability. The results show that structural stability of the desuperheater under the real operating condition was proven.

  • In this paper, the mathematical models of the superheater and the desuperheater are derived based on the fundamental laws of physics, mass and energy balance. The parameters of the models are developed for the 500[MW] thermal power plant using the actual data. The simulated model outputs are well matched with the actual ones. It is expected that the proposed models are useful for the temperature controller design of the thermal power plant.

  • The present study has been carried out to diagnose the temperature safety of a boiler desuperheater which decreases abnormally higher temperature of superheated steam in a reheater of a power plant. The liquid water in the desuperheater stays in a closed space. It becomes heated by the high temperature superheated steam and boiling could occur. Boiling might increase internal pressure and it could destroy the desuperheater if the internal pressure exceeds the allowable pressure of the desuperheater. The present study modeled reasonably the desuperheater and four cases of heat transfer analysis are executed with the consideration of insulator and natural convective fluid flow of the inside cooling water. For the case excluded the natural convective fluid flow, the temperature exceeds the allowable temperature and pressure. On the other hand, for the real case included natural convective fluid flow and insulator, the active heat transfer from higher temperature region to lower temperature region occurs and it makes the temperature in the cooling water below the allowable temperature and pressure. From this fact, it could be thought that the desuperheater in the reheater is safe from destroy or back flow.

  • The generation of electric power and plant facilities have been attempting to improve energy efficiency with many efforts as those being basis of our country's economy. In particular, the CHP(Combined Heat Power plant) system, is producing the electricity and process steam, has generally been using for the cogeneration plants. When CHP system operates, the steam has to maintain the high temperature and high pressure in order to have high efficiency of electric power production as much as possible. In addition, the exhausted steam from the turbine has to reform proper temperature to use the needed process. The major purpose of desuperheater is that the superheated steam changes into the saturated steam because it is more efficient and suitable for using the process, furthermore, it is more convenient and stable regarding the process temperature control. The design of the desuperheater obtained through the experiment and preceding analysis. This paper is verified by analysis that water spray nozzle(${\Phi}$=28mm) shows the best ability under the real power plant condition.

  • This study was experimentally performed to investigate flow characteristics of spray droplets in the wind tunnel. Behavior of the spray droplets in the pipe was observed and the deposition rate of droplets on the surface of pipe as liquid film was measured. The experiments were carried out for a variety of parameter, such as velocity of feed air, spray angle of nozzle, and diameter of droplet. From the visual observation of the spray droplets in the pipe and the measurement of deposition rate on the pipe, the general understanding of droplets behavior for desuperheater was provided.

  • The steam power plant is becoming more important to supply a stable power lately. Desuperheater of the steam power plant facility plays a role in maintaining the proper superheat to avoid damage turbine power due to the superheated steam produced in the boiler. In this study, when the steam flows $530^{\circ}C$, 36.7 kg/s, 1.36 MPa in the 460mm pipe, variable orifice nozzle developed in Korea was carried out the performance analysis in coolant injection conditions of $150^{\circ}C$, 4.28 MPa. Findings, steam pipe coolant temperature was maintained at $446^{\circ}C$ and sprayed droplet size was verified by $50{\mu}m$ or less.

  • The problem of constructing an bilinear observer for use in the control of superheater temperature with desuperheater is considered. The distributed heat input into the superheater is usually not available for use in the observer, and hence is treated as an unknown inputs. The bilinear observer theory for system with unknown inputs is exploited and applied to the problem.

The distributed heat input into the superheater is usually not available for use in the observer, and hence is treated as a disturbance. The observer theory for systems with unknown inputs is exploited and applied to the problem. Approximation of the heat input utilizing the specific heat input distribution pattern is also considered.
