How to create mixed reality educational contents using Hololens (홀로렌즈를 활용한 혼합현실 교육 콘텐츠 제작 방법)

  • Realistic content such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality is emerging as an innovative technology in the education field in that it allows people to safely and efficiently experience dangerous, expensive or impossible situations, such as disaster training or space travel. Recently, as government agencies have supported a lot for producing virtual augmented reality contents about education, various educational contents using virtual augmented reality technology have been developed through the Edutech industry. Many virtual augmented reality-based educational contents are being developed, but mixed reality-based educational contents are very limited which could be more effective for education. This study examines the basic method of producing mixed reality educational contents using Hololens and, on the basis of this, it proposes the method for producing scientific experiment contents. Hololens made it possible to share information in real time without a regular desktop PC, and it is effective for teachers to manage and evaluate students in real time.

Theoretical simulation on evolution of suspended sodium combustion aerosols characteristics in a closed chamber

  • In the unlikely event of core disruptive accident in sodium cooled fast reactors, the reactor containment building would be bottled up with sodium and fission product aerosols. The behavior of these aerosols is crucial to estimate the in-containment source term as a part of nuclear reactor safety analysis. In this work, the evolution of sodium aerosol characteristics (mass concentration and size) is simulated using HAARM-S code. The code is based on the method of moments to solve the integro-differential equation. The code is updated to FORTRAN-77 and run in Microsoft FORTRAN PowerStation 4.0 (on Desktop). The sodium aerosol characteristics simulated by HAARM-S code are compared with the measured values at Aerosol Test Facility. The maximum deviation between measured and simulated mass concentrations is 30% at initial period (up to 60 min) and around 50% in the later period. In addition, the influence of humidity on aerosol size growth for two different aerosol mass concentrations is studied. The measured and simulated growth factors of aerosol size (ratio of saturated size to initial size) are found to be matched at reasonable extent. Since sodium is highly reactive with atmospheric constituents, the aerosol growth factor depends on the hygroscopic growth, chemical transformation and density variations besides coagulation. Further, there is a scope for the improvement of the code to estimate the aerosol dynamics in confined environment.

Data Deduplication Method using Locality-based Chunking policy for SSD-based Server Storages (SSD 기반 서버급 스토리지를 위한 지역성 기반 청킹 정책을 이용한 데이터 중복 제거 기법)

  • NAND flash-based SSDs (Solid State Drive) have advantages of fast input/output performance and low power consumption so that they could be widely used as storages on tablet, desktop PC, smart-phone, and server. But, SSD has the disadvantage of wear-leveling due to increase of the number of writes. In order to improve the lifespan of the SSD, a variety of data deduplication techniques have been introduced. General fixed-size splitting method allocates fixed size of chunk without considering locality of data so that it may execute unnecessary chunking and hash key generation, and variable-size splitting method occurs excessive operation since it compares data byte-by-byte for deduplication. This paper proposes adaptive chunking method based on application locality and file name locality of written data in SSD-based server storage. The proposed method split data into 4KB or 64KB chunks adaptively according to application locality and file name locality of duplicated data so that it can reduce the overhead of chunking and hash key generation and prevent duplicated data writing. The experimental results show that the proposed method can enhance write performance, reduce power consumption and operation time compared to existing variable-size splitting method and fixed size splitting method using 4KB.

Pattern-based Signature Generation for Identification of HTTP Applications (HTTP 응용들의 식별을 위한 패턴 기반의 시그니쳐 생성)

  • Internet traffic volume has been increasing rapidly due to popularization of various smart devices and Internet development. In particular, HTTP-based traffic volume of smart devices is increasing rapidly in addition to desktop traffic volume. The increased mobile traffic can cause serious problems such as network overload, web security, and QoS. In order to solve these problems of the Internet overload and security, it is necessary to accurately detect applications. Traditionally, well-known port based method is utilized in traffic classification. However, this method shows low accuracy since P2P applications exploit a TCP/80 port, which is used for the HTTP protocol; to avoid firewall or IDS. Signature-based method is proposed to solve the lower accuracy problem. This method shows higher analysis rate but it has overhead of signature generation. Also, previous signature-based study only analyzes applications in HTTP protocol-level not application-level. That is, it is difficult to identify application name. Therefore, previous study only performs protocol-level analysis. In this paper, we propose a signature generation method to classify HTTP-based traffics in application-level using the characteristics of typical semi HTTP header. By applying our proposed method to campus network traffic, we validate feasibility of our method.

A Unit Touch Gesture Model of Performance Time Prediction for Mobile Devices

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to propose a unit touch gesture model, which would be useful to predict the performance time on mobile devices. Background: When estimating usability based on Model-based Evaluation (MBE) in interfaces, the GOMS model measured 'operators' to predict the execution time in the desktop environment. Therefore, this study used the concept of operator in GOMS for touch gestures. Since the touch gestures are comprised of possible unit touch gestures, these unit touch gestures can predict to performance time with unit touch gestures on mobile devices. Method: In order to extract unit touch gestures, manual movements of subjects were recorded in the 120 fps with pixel coordinates. Touch gestures are classified with 'out of range', 'registration', 'continuation' and 'termination' of gesture. Results: As a results, six unit touch gestures were extracted, which are hold down (H), Release (R), Slip (S), Curved-stroke (Cs), Path-stroke (Ps) and Out of range (Or). The movement time predicted by the unit touch gesture model is not significantly different from the participants' execution time. The measured six unit touch gestures can predict movement time of undefined touch gestures like user-defined gestures. Conclusion: In conclusion, touch gestures could be subdivided into six unit touch gestures. Six unit touch gestures can explain almost all the current touch gestures including user-defined gestures. So, this model provided in this study has a high predictive power. The model presented in the study could be utilized to predict the performance time of touch gestures. Application: The unit touch gestures could be simply added up to predict the performance time without measuring the performance time of a new gesture.

A Research for Digital Literacy Education Methodlogies based on Mobile Devices (모바일 기기 기반의 디지털 리터러시 교육 방안에 대한 연구)

  • The computing environment is rapidly changing to mobile device base, with the development of computer technology. Until now, digital literacy education has been based on desktop PC education, but it is time to change it into literacy education suitable for mobile environment. In this paper, we propose a mobile-based digital literacy MoDL (Mobile Device Digital Literacy). MoDL proposes three phases. One is Mobile Based Digital Environment (MoDE), which builds a mobile digital environment, seconds is Bring Your Own Devices (BYOD) class method when using it for education. Finally, MoDLI (MoDL Instruction) for learning mobile literacy is presented step by step. To verify the validity of the proposed, eight experts were surveyed so that the Content Validity Ratio was calculated. As a result, CVR was ensured in all items except for the applicability of MoDLI.

  • In this paper, we study the performance of recently popular multi-core systems in mobiles. Previous research on the multi-core performance usually focused on the desktop PC. However, there is enough scope to further analyze heterogeneous multi-core systems. Therefore, by extending homogeneous multi-core systems, we analyze the heterogeneous multi-core systems using Size Interval Task Allocation (SITA) for job allocation, and Shortest Remaining Processing Time (SRPT) scheduling, for each individual core. We propose a new computational method regarding the cutoff point, which is crucial in analyzing SITA, by calculating the sojourn time. This facilitate easy and accurate calculation of the sojourn time. We further confirm our analysis through the ESESC simulator that provides actual measurements.

  • The digital textbook project which embarked by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has focused on experiments and practices from the school designated by the government. However the previous research about digital textbook provides static interaction models and teaching-learning models analogous to web-based learning based desktop PC even the framework of the digital textbook is based of Tablet PC. This paper provides learning and teaching models for next generation digital textbook which based digital inking techinques for sketcth interface and AR(augmented reality) interactions between teacher and learner. The proposed method of this paper is applied to educational contents and we found positive effect which is supported by statistical experiments. The results of this study in the future and the future development of digital textbooks in effect will be an effective development plan.

  • Web contents created for desktop screens give rise to problems when they are to be displayed on the small screens of mobile terminals. While in some cases some of the objects of a page may not be displayable due to the lack of browser capability, the entire page may not be displayable due to the incompatibility with the browser in other cases. In this paper, we introduce a new mobile content adaptation approach based on web clipping, which transforms an original page into one that is optimally displayed on a mobile terminal. In this method, a source page is automatically clipped and transformed according to the clip specification made by the content provider using a clip editing tool. The clip editing tool allows the user to specify group clips, multi-level cups and dynamic clips as well as simple clips, and the presentation layout through a graphic user interface. Based on the clip specifications, each clip is transformed into an intermediate meta-language document, which in turn is transformed into a presentation page in the target markup language. Transcoding of image objects in major image file formats is also supported.

Design and Implementation of a Network Computing System for Diskless Client PCs (하드디스크 없는 클라이언트 PC를 위한 네트워크 컴퓨팅 시스템의 설계 및 구현)

  • With fully harnessing the functions provided by Windows NT, we suggest the generating method of RPL profile and the RPL protocol for remote booting on DL-NCS(Network Computing System for Diskless client PCs). This system can offer clients, without having hard disk, boot remotely Window 9x stored in server's hard disk and can share peripheral devices and application programs in the server side. For booting Window 9x from DL-NCS, twenty-five clients' PCs were set for simultaneous on and finally the PCs were booted in similar time interval compared to that from a desktop PC having local disk. This system was also experimented to the application programs. And this system can yield excellent networking environments. In sum, with using this DL-NCS, we can reduce the installing costs of peripheral device, recycle the lower grade PCs such as 486SX/DX, and save the budgets for software purchase.
