Real-time Processing Method for Windows OS Using MSR_FSB_FREQ Control (MSR_FSB_FREQ 제어를 이용한 윈도우 운영체제에 실시간 처리 방법)

  • In the case of laptops and tablet PC's that replace desktop, it uses the Windows operating system to provide various functions depending on operating system dependency, the Windows operating system does not support real-time processing because it uses multi-level feedback queue scheduling that extends round-robin scheduling. Also, since the initial value of Local APIC Counter can not be obtained from the Windows 8, the real-time processing function provided through the existing RTiK does not work. In this paper, we calculate Local APIC Counter value by using MSR_FSB_FREQ register to support real-time processing function on tablet PC's. We designed and implemented RTiK+, which provides real-time processing function to guarantee the periodicity by calculating the operation time of accurate timer. In order to verify and evaluate the performance of the implemented the RTiK+, the period was measured by using the Read Time-Stamp Counter(RDTSC) instruction and it was confirmed that it operates normally at 1ms and 0.1ms period.

Design and Implementation of a Network Computing System for Diskless Client PCs (하드디스크 없는 클라이언트 PC를 위한 네트워크 컴퓨팅 시스템의 설계 및 구현)

  • With fully harnessing the functions provided by Windows NT, we suggest the generating method of RPL profile and the RPL protocol for remote booting on DL-NCS(Network Computing System for Diskless client PCs). This system can offer clients, without having hard disk, boot remotely Window 9x stored in server's hard disk and can share peripheral devices and application programs in the server side. For booting Window 9x from DL-NCS, twenty-five clients' PCs were set for simultaneous on and finally the PCs were booted in similar time interval compared to that from a desktop PC having local disk. This system was also experimented to the application programs. And this system can yield excellent networking environments. In sum, with using this DL-NCS, we can reduce the installing costs of peripheral device, recycle the lower grade PCs such as 486SX/DX, and save the budgets for software purchase.

  • Personal general purpose computer(PC) has been evolved from desktop to portable mobile device such as tablet PC and PDA. Technology innovation on semiconductor have made it possible to package a reasonably Powerful Processor and memory subsystem with advanced input/output devices. At last these subsystems are miniaturized into wearable system. Wearable computer has recently gained attention as the post PC in the ubiquitous environment. Wearable computing becomes more and more feasible and receives growing attention throughout industry and the consumer marketplaces. This paper proposed and developed WPS that has multimedia features and network features as a wearable embedded platform. We explain the form, overall architecture, functions and user applications of this WPS. This paper also discusses the form of next generation computer platform with intuitive user interfaces and well designed applications in the future.

  • To support the mobility, mobile computers are generally equipped with lower capability than desktop PCs or workstations in terms of the size of a display, the processing power of CPU and so on. This may give a rise to limitation in mobile computers of supporting multimedia services such as World Wide Web which users would otherwise fully enjoy in desktop PCs. Approaches to reducing the limitations are distillating original multimedia data or converting them to text. Conventional proxy servers for mobile computer simply send distillated image files with the fixed size regardless of the display size of a target mobile computer. Since the cached data is kept separately for each user, they cannot be shared among users with the same display configuration and thus the proxy server could be overloaded. In this paper, we first classify various mobile computers based on their display capability in terms of display sizes and colors. We propose an enhanced proxy server called Class-based proxy that provides a mobile computer with distillated image files in proportion to its class display capacity. The proposed proxy server allows a mobile computer user to have a homepage view similar to that in PC or Workstation. Mobile computers with the same class share the cached image files, which are distillated appropriately for that class. This helps the proxy server to get higher cache hit ratio with improved efficiency and scalability.

  • In this paper, we introduce our experience of the design and implementation of mobile collaboration system(MCS) that support people using mobile devices to participate in cooperative session. There are considerable differences between desktop PC and mobile devices like PDA in processing ability, resolution of display and color degree. In the case of mobile devices, they use different processors and different operating system and they have even differences in ability of executing application. The mobile collaborative system based on T.120 protocol of ITU-T standard compromised of mobile collaboration server, mobile collaboration client, session node and application. We also define the session node in desktop PC in which session control block and communication block runs. This node provide functions of session control block and communication block to mobile collaboration clients and so lighten load of clients. The mobile collaboration server provides information of candidates for session node, session and user to mobile collaboration client. And this server support clients to configure their own session node and manage sessions. Only the mobile collaboration client module and applications including APE are executed in a mobile device when user using mobile devices would like to participate in cooperative session. We implemented mobile collaboration client and applications with JAVA to support platform independency.

  • Current surveying and spatial information technology incorporates information and communication technology and is user friendly. However, it is not convenient to use in the field because a connection to a computer, such as a laptop, tablet PC, or desktop PC, is needed to obtain the survey results and the coordinates of the surveyed points. To solve this problem, we developed an app that can display surveyed data on a map and the current survey results through a connection between a total station and smartphone using a Bluetooth wireless communication device. The app allows users to perform field work simultaneously with office work in the field, because it consists of Bluetooth, closed traverse survey, current status survey, and coordinate conversion modules. The proposed app should increase user convenience and the operational capability of the total station in the field.

  • When a PDA is used as a mobile terminal in an infrastructure network based on 802.11b standard wireless LAN, we measured and evaluated the performance of multimedia data transmission. In general, PDAs are mainly used tot receiving bulk data like multimedia data. However, while a PDA as a mobile host transfers multimedia data to a desktop PC as a fixed host in such a network, the time taken to receive data from the PC to the PDA is always longer than the time taken to send data from the PDA to the PC by at least 53%. Thus, we consider some critical factors that affect the time taken to receive Our experimental results show that with the PDA the time taken to access a file for writing is longer than the time taken to access a file for reading of to 4.11 times. In addition, a dramatic change of the site of the receiver window, from 686 bytes to 32,383 bytes, prolongs the time taken to receive. To transfer data without any inter-packet interval for the PDA and to increase the size of the TCP receive buffer will be effective in improving the delay to receive data.

  • Most of the ShipHandling Simulators of full-mission-bridge system need vast area to install and even PC-based maneuvering simulators are often equipped with Steering Wheel or Engine Telegraphe etc. of data input interface, which necessarily makes the user face with excessive financial burden. These have been one of the obstacles for the officers, captains, pilots and students in access to maneuvering simulation whenever they want to try it in advance prior to actual ship maneuvering. Subsequently, all the officers and captains come to have little chances to train themselves until they arualified as a pilot after a long period of time of realship maneuvering practice on board, which means they have to control they have to control their own ship at sea without clear understanding on her maneuverability when they are forced to do it on the way. And these lack of capability for maneuvering have used so often to result in marine casualties of collision with other ships or pier facilities while maneuvering in harbor. To prevent those accidents by means of enhancing their maneuvering ability, PC-based DeskTop Simulator that allows anyong to access readily at anytime is needed and in conformation to such demand this simulator has been developed. The Software this simulator written in Turbo Pascal Ver. 5.0 has adopted MMG mathmatical model theoretically in part and also it was designed to make it possible that all numeric data inputs and outputs with graphic presentation for maneuvering operation be carried out just only with keyboard and monitor console. With the Simulation software, all the officers, captains, pilots and even students who has a proper computer at hand are expected to be able to make an attempt to simulate the maneuvering of their ownship or any other types of them at any port in which they want to do it.

  • As the recent advanced in BIO signal measurement technology, our computing platform is rapidly shifting from desktop PCs to Embedded System. Therefore, In this paper introduces an implementation of the same precision as a hospitan ECG system on the Android. The most important fact of the hospital system is connectivity among the PC such as separate means of communication, we can eliminate the separate means of communication through the Porting Embedded System on Android that can be receive ECG signal directly. We also implementation ECG App on Android that can analyze and show the data result directly.

  • This paper proposes a method for extending simulating fluid on mobile device, which was only possible on desktop PC. Fluid simulation is done by solving Navier-Stokes equation numerically, and previous research were mainly focused on numerical stability [1], and realism [2]. However, such methods assume rich computational resources, which is not available on mobile devices. On the other hand, rigid-body solver is the mostly used physically-based technique [3], and only simple height field-based method is released for fluid simulation [4]. To overcome these problems, we proposes a modified incompressible fluid dynamics solver for the mobile device, and also we propose a technique for visualizing fluids on the mobile device.
