Inelastic response of multistory buildings under earthquake excitation

  • It is well recognized that structures designed to resist strong ground motions should be able to withstand substantial inelastic deformations. A simple procedure has been developed in this paper to monitor the dynamic earthquake response (time-history analysis) of both steel and concrete multistorey buildings in the inelastic range. The building is treated as a shear beam model with three degrees of freedom per floor. The entire analysis has been programmed to run on a microcomputer and can output time histories of displacements, velocities, accelerations and member internal forces at any desired location. A record of plastic hinge formation and restoration to elastic state is also provided. Such information can be used in aseismic analysis and design of multistorey buildings so as to control the damage and optimize their performance.

  • Commerce has been taking a part of important on composing structure and system, having been started with simple role on exchange goods. In this point, We can say that commerce is the condensation of life based on understanding human cultures. Commercial center has been changing on a form as well as a function all through the history, following the changes of society. The attentional point is that there are always entertainment factors and have the relationship with space of the building in constant The purpose of comsume is not only just for a product but also enjoy consuming time and space. Most people have concentration spending their free time city where they live. This study identify the entertainment factors for a commerce an entertainment center.

Domestic Production Process of Early Korean Broadcast CG Equipment

  • The development process of domestic CG (Computer Graphics) needs to be studied by classifying the technical part and the design part. This paper analyzes how early domestic broadcast equipment evolved and focused on what went through the development process. Domestic broadcasting companies have introduced and used overseas equipment and have begun to develop their own technology. The development process of the early domestic production technology of broadcasting stations was classified into Character Generator, On-line Real-Time Graphic and Sport Coder. It was found that the orientation of broadcasting technology was conclusively focused on visualization, with socio-cultural factors acting along with the evolution of hardware and software. This research is meaningful in reorganizing the history of the development process of domestic CG technology in the early days through previous research (primary verification), newspaper articles and news coverage (secondary verification). This paper looks at what is missing by regaining the past of CG, and argues that with the advent of new technologies today, we must develop through appropriate division of roles and collaboration between engineers and designers.

  • In the general manufacturing sector, prototyping used to reduce the risks that can arise with new conceptual products. However, in AEC area, it does not mass-produce a building, so the prototype itself becomes a building. Therefore, it is challenging to have prototyping of the same scale as the real thing, and the prototyping process in architecture is very inefficient. The prototyping process in the design stage typically assumes making a scaled model, partial model, or digital model. However, it is difficult for these models to correspond to the actual building and the environment of time and space such as scale, material, environment, load, physical properties and deformation, corrosion, etc., unlike the actual building. When using the digital twin concept in the prototyping process, it is possible to measure performance from the design stage to the operation stage. The digital twin was found by a method for monitoring based on physical twins and real-time linkage in the operation stage. Therefore, if the digital twin concept is applied at the design stage, it is possible to predict performance using not only current performance but also history information using real-time information. In order to apply the digital twin concept to the prototyping design process, we analyze the theoretical considerations and the prototyping design process of the digital twin, analyze the cases and research results where the prototyping design was applied, Provide an applied prototyping design process. The proposed process is tested through a pilot project and analyzed for potential use.

내진성능평가를 위한 비선형 직접스펙트럼법의 특성 (The Properties of a Nonlinear Direct Spectrum Method for Estimating the Seismic Performance)

  • 성능에 기초한 설계법에서는 비선형 응답산정이 필수적이며, 이를 위한 방법으로는 비선형시각이력해석법, 비선형 정적해석법, 비선형 효과를 고려한 등가선형해석법 등이 있다. 일부 규준에서는 pushover곡선으로부터 작성한 성능스펙트럼과 선형 응답스펙트럼으로부터 작성한 요구스펙트럼으로 이루어진 능력스펙트럼법을 제안하고 있다. 이 방법은 개념적으로는 간단하나 반복과정이 요구되며, 부정확한 결과를 산출하는 경우가 많다. 이에 따라 시행착오적인 등가선형 스펙트럼대신 비선형스펙트럼을 사용하는 방법들에 대한 연구들이 진행되고 있다. 비선형 요구스펙트럼은 표준적 선형 설계스펙트럼으로부터 결정될 수 있으며, 이 방법은 등가선형의 경우보다는 계산과정이 대폭 줄어들기는 하나 아직도 다소의 연산과정이 요구된다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 다자유도계의 구조물에 대한 pushover곡선으로부터 구조물의 진동주기와 항복강도를 구한 다음, 일련의 계산과정을 거치지 않고도, 직접적으로 비선형 최대응답을 구할 수 있는 비선형 직접스펙트럼법(NDSM)을 제시하극 집중질량계의 MDF(다자유도계) 모델에 대해 다양한 지진기록과 제하강성저하지수를 변수로 하여 NDSM의 적용성과 신뢰성을 평가하고자 한다. 본 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 1) 다자유도계 구조물에 대한 비선형 직접스펙트럼법에 의한 최대변위 응답은 비선형 시각이력해석법에 의한 응답과 거의 일치하므로 실용적인 방법으로 사료된다. 2) 비선형 직접스펙트럼법과 비선형 시각이력해석에 의해 산정된 죄상층 변위 결과를 비교하면, 항복후강성계수가 0.1, MAD(modal adaptive distribution)에 의한 수평정적하중분폰 그리고 제하강성저하지수가 0.2~O.3일 때 평균오차가 가장 줄어드는 것으로 나타났다.

방파제의 성능기반 내진설계법 (Seismic Performance-Based Design for Breakwater)

  • 1995년 일본에서 발생한 고베지진으로 인하여 고베항에 대규모 피해가 발생하면서, 기존 내진설계 기준의 문제점이 제기됨에 따라 기존의 유사정적해석 및 허용응력 설계법으로는 Level II(규모 6.5) 수준의 지진에 대하여 항만 구조물 설계가 불가능한 사실이 지적되어 내진설계에 있어서 성능기반 설계법의 필요성이 대두되었다. 지진이 빈번한 일본 및 미국의 경우 항만시설에 대한 가장 선진화된 설계기준을 도입하여 적용하고 있으며, 기존 내진설계기준을 성능기반설계로 전환하였다. 1999년 이후 현재까지 국내 항만내진설계법은 내진설계가 필요한 시설과 이들의 내진등급에 대한 정의가 불명확한 점에 대해 연구를 통해 필요한 시설과 내진등급에 대한 정의를 확립하고 실험적 검증을 바탕으로 국내 실정에 부합한 성능기반 내진설계법을 확립하고 있는 단계이다. 본 연구에서 개발한 방파제의 성능기반 내진설계법은 원지반의 지표면에서의 가속도 시간이력을 고속 푸리에 변환(FFT) 후 방파제의 해당성능수준별 최대허용변위에 대응한 주파수 특성을 보정해주는 필터처리를 하였고, 필터 처리된 스펙트럼을 다시 가속도 시간이력으로 역변환(IFFT) 하여 가속도 최대값을 산정함으로써 변위를 고려한 등가정적해석을 위한 수평지진계수를 산정하였다. 또한 국내 지진 수준에 맞는 방파제의 성능기반 내진설계법의 검증을 위해서 실험과 수치해석을 수행하였다.

현대건축 현상의 존재론적 해석 - 20세기말 아방가르드를 중심으로 - (Ontological Analysis on the Phenomenon of Contemporary Architecture - Focused on the Avant-garde in the End of the 20th Century -)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the features of the avant-garde architecture in the end of the 20th Century based on the ontology as a metalanguage. In view of the results so for achieved, it is possible to say that the thought of becoming, topology, rhizome thought and the Deleuze's concepts of the fold and the event as ever-changing and evolving at any given time are found in the avant-garde architecture, and the introduction of ontological thought into architectural design encourage hopes for a more natural and existential quality in architecture. However, the avant-garde architecture in the end of the 20th century disclosed the limitation in the architectural expression of ontological thought due to the lack of fully understand on ontology. In conclusion, the ontological approach in architecture offers a new morphological methodology and a new way of programming considering the existential aspect of space through the bricoleur's means leaving the ontological meaning of architecture itself.

  • The language of architecture is a kind of tool which helps people to experience the environment not as the thing itself but as a meaningful one. It, gathered by place, constitutes 'genius loci', as the existential structures. It, in other words, gives a thing 'cognitive quality', and serve people to 'dwell' because 'a place is a gathering thing with concrete presence.' Our environment, only when it possesses the language, presents itself as a namable thing or an understood world. Such a meaningful identification is dwelling. The modern world is a complex melting-pot. It is 'complexities' and 'contradiction'. The language of architecture is never created, rather it is selected by needs of the time and the place. In this sense, architectural design means discovery and interpretation of the poetic order of architypal form and style, and the poetic order is a way for people to dwell in the humanistic sense. These reminds me of Martin Heidegger's statement : "Architecture belongs to poetry, and its purpose is to help man to dwell."

근대 건축의 사고체계: 장-니콜라-루이 뒤랑과 국제 양식 (Systems of thought in Modern Architecture: Jean-Nicolas-Louis Durand and International style)

  • The purpose of this study is to establish the relationship between Durand's architectural theory which provided reasonable architectural logic in the early 19th century, and architectural logic of the Modern Movement of Architecture led by avant-garde architects in the 1920's. The system of thought in architecture proposed by Durand which clarified a architectural design method(composition) is very similar to the one of the International Style(Book), which summarizes commonalities in the flow of modern architecture. This approach has something in common from the perspective of the systems of thought, despite differences in external forms and time gaps. Therefore, this study intends to examine the systems of thought in three ways. It is to examine how the two systems of thought define architecture, what is the logic of building production, and finally the value of architecture (including aesthetic values) while eliminating classical aesthetics.

A Study on Bentwood Furniture Design - Focus on Steam Bending Technique -

  • At researching the history of furniture design, furniture based on the bentwood technique was often seen. There are different bending ways of wood. Among others the steam bending technique had been used since long time, but it's detailed method has been much less studied in Korea yet. The aim of the present study was to investigate the theoretical approach and making ways & process of the steam bending technique, and furthermore to utilize it for the works of the students majoring furniture design. This intends that the steam bending technique will be widely distributed by doing a mock up and it will be diversely used for development of more different furniture designs.
