Adaptive symbiotic organisms search (SOS) algorithm for structural design optimization

  • The symbiotic organisms search (SOS) algorithm is an effective metaheuristic developed in 2014, which mimics the symbiotic relationship among the living beings, such as mutualism, commensalism, and parasitism, to survive in the ecosystem. In this study, three modified versions of the SOS algorithm are proposed by introducing adaptive benefit factors in the basic SOS algorithm to improve its efficiency. The basic SOS algorithm only considers benefit factors, whereas the proposed variants of the SOS algorithm, consider effective combinations of adaptive benefit factors and benefit factors to study their competence to lay down a good balance between exploration and exploitation of the search space. The proposed algorithms are tested to suit its applications to the engineering structures subjected to dynamic excitation, which may lead to undesirable vibrations. Structure optimization problems become more challenging if the shape and size variables are taken into account along with the frequency. To check the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed algorithms, six different planar and space trusses are subjected to experimental analysis. The results obtained using the proposed methods are compared with those obtained using other optimization methods well established in the literature. The results reveal that the adaptive SOS algorithm is more reliable and efficient than the basic SOS algorithm and other state-of-the-art algorithms.

  • 유연날개의 공력 및 구조 설계값을 설계 변수로 하여 정적 상태에서의 정적 공탄성해석 및 최적화를 수행하였다. 정적 공탄성해석과 최적화를 위해 상용 해석소프트웨어들이 연계된 강건한 다분야 최적설계 시스템을 개발하였다. 최적화 설계변수로는 가로세로비, 테이퍼비, 후퇴각과 날개 위아래 스킨 두께를 설정하였다. 전역적 다목적 최적화를 위해 실수기반 적응영역 다목적 유전자 알고리즘을 적용하였으며 계산시간을 줄이기 위해 메타모델로 서포트벡터회귀 기법을 적용하였다. 유연날개에 대한 파레토 결과 분석을 통해 최대 항속시간과 최소 중량에 대한 최적 결과를 확인하였다.

  • A study on the topology optimization of a multi-spectral camera for space-use is presented. A multi-spectral camera for space-use experiences degradation of optical image in the space, which can not be detected on the optical test bench on the earth. An optical surface deformation of a primary mirror, which is a principal component of the camera system, under the self-weight loading is an important factor affecting the optical performance of the whole camera system. In this study, topology optimization of the primary mirror of the camera is presented. Total mass of the primary mirror is given as a constraint to the optimization problem. The sensitivities of the objective function and constraint are calculated by direct differentiation method. Optimization procedure is carried out by an optimality criterion method using the sensitivities of the objective function and the constraint. As a preliminary example, topology optimization considering a self-weight loading is treated. For practical use, the polishing pressure is included as a loading in the topology optimization of the primary mirror. Results of the optimized design topology for the primary mirror with varying mass ratios are presented.

  • The objective of this research is to develop a robust design methodology for plastic injection molded parts wherein warpage will be minimized by a complex method which is a kind of a simple direct search method. The design space considered for optimization is divided Into two sub-design space : mold and process conditions. Warpage is quantified using the Moldflow injection molding simulation software. The design methodology was applied to an actual part of a fax machine, the Guide-ASF model, through two different design policies. The significance of this study is the synthesis of a computer simulation of injection molding process and optimization technique to determine the optimal robust design solution.

U자형 리브의 최적설계에 의한 사출제품의 휨 최소화 (Minimization of Warpage in Injection-molded Parts By Optimal Design of U-type Ribs)

  • In this research, the layout and geometry of U-type ribs in the part, including significant process conditions, are automatically optimized to reduce part warpage with robustness in consideration. The optimization procedure are based on an iterative redesign methodology integrated with computer aided injection molding simulation, Taguchi's Design of Experiment(DOE), and a direct search-based optimization method. The robustness of a design alternative is efficiently measured by introducing composite noise factor and Taguchi's signal-to-noise ratio. As a solution search methodology, the modified design space reduction method based on orthogonal arrays is employed to exploit an optimal robust design alternative. To illustrate the proposed methodology, a case study is performed on simulation results, where an optimal robust design alternative is obtained with a moderate number of iterations.

  • 본 논문은 Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO)을 이용하여 고속 2차원 디지털필터의 설계방법을 제안하였다. 먼저 2차원 상태공간 디지털필터의 설계문제를 PSO에 적용하기 위하여 최소화 문제로써 형식화 과정이 논의된다. 제안된 PSO 알고리즘을 이용한 설계방법은 필터설계에서 요구되는 안정성을 보증하는 과정이 검토되어 개선된다. 본 논문에서 제안된 방법의 타당성을 설계예시를 통해 고찰한 결과, 설계된 디지털필터는 동일한 설계사양으로 기존의 설계방법으로 설계된 디지털필터보다 근사 및 라운드오프 오차 면에서 우수한 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 아울러 제안된 2의 멱수가 필터계수인 2차원 상태공간 디지털필터는 승산기가 필요하지 않아 기존의 필터보다 연산과정에서 계산용량을 약 1/4로 줄일 수 있다는 것을 보였다.

  • 단거리 탄도 미사일의 개념 형상을 설계하기 위하여, 부피, 공력, 추진, 구조, 안정성, 비행 궤적 등의 다양한 관점을 고려하는 최적화 문제를 정립하였다. 이를 위하여 기존의 미사일 사례를 분석하여, 설계 조건과 성능지수를 도출하였다. 각 서브 시스템의 모델을 통합하여, 전체 시스템의 성능을 분석하였다. 설계 예시를 통하여, 여러 설계변수가 최종 성능에 미치는 관계성을 분석하였다.

Design Optimization of Composite Radar Absorbing Structures to Improve Stealth Performance

  • In this study, an efficient method of designing laminate composite radar absorbing structures (RAS) is proposed with consideration given to the structural shape so as to improve aircraft stealth performance. The calculation of the radar cross section (RCS) should be decreased to enhance the efficiency of the stochastic optimization when designing an RAS. In the proposed method, RAS are optimized to match up the input impedance of the minimal RCS, which is obtained by using physical optics and the transmission line theory. Single and double layer dielectric RAS for aircraft wings are employed as numerical examples and designed using the proposed method, RCS minimization and reflection coefficient minimization. The availability of the proposed method is assessed by comparing the similarity of the results and computation time with other design methods. According to the results, the proposed method produces the same results as the stochastic optimization, which adopts the RCS as the objective function, and can improve RAS design efficiency by reducing the number of RCS analyses.

  • 말굽와류로 대표되는 3차원 유동현상은 필연적으로 주유동에 대한 2차 유동의 형태로 발생되며, 유동손실을 유발하게 된다. 본 논문에서는 2차유동 손실을 일으키는 주요 요인중의 하나인 말굽와류의 강도를 감쇄시키기 위해 일반적인 날개 앞전에 설치한 판에 대해, 판의 설치 높이, 길이, 폭 및 두께 등의 형상변수를 설계변수로 정하여 이를 최적화하였다. 근사최적설계 기법을 이용 최적화를 수행하였으며, $FLUENT^{TM}$$iSIGHT^{TM}$를 이용하였다. 최적화 수행결과, 기준 모델의 경우보다 전압력 계수가 약 7.5% 감소하였다.

크리킹을 이용한 최적화 알고리즘 (An Optimization Algorithm Using Kriging)

  • Kriging has been effectively used to approximate for optimization. This study has been devised to improve efficiency and accuracy of approximate optimal design using Kriging. The design of experiments (DOE), the classical design and space-filling design, are used to provide maximum information using minimum number of design of experiments. The proposed methodology is applied to the designs of 3-bar truss and Sandgren's pressure vessel.
