  • The purpose of this research was to find a proper disposal rainfall extent to improve water quality. SWMM was applied to select catchment area and tested first flush load and rainfall extent. BOD 40mg/L was selected to dispose the first flush and sewer overflow with the same as the criteria of Sewerage Act. Design rainfall, BOD load ratio of first flush sewer overflow, and the ratio of disposal flow were analyzed under various rainfall distribution. BOD load and design rainfall to treat overflow in situation of first flush extent with 4.3~17.4% were 56~87% and 3.8~6.8 mm/day, respectively. In urban area, first flush loads were not correspond to land activities, but tend to increase with increasing rainfall amount and drainage area. The more the distribution of rainfall is similar to Huff-frontal or central distribution of rainfall, the more increase the first flush loads.

  • Nonpoint source (NPS) pollution is caused by rainfall moving over and through the ground. As the runoff moves, it picks up and carries away various pollutants from NPS. The discharge pattern of NPS pollutant loads is affected by the distribution of the rainfall during the year. This study analysed relationship between the rainfall event and the stream flow rate, and estimated the rainfall discharge ratio on the specific design flow which can be used as nonpoint discharge coefficient for the estimation of NPS pollution load. It is considered that nonpoint discharge coefficient can be effectively used for the calculation of NPS pollution load at the time of water quality modelling for the management of Total maximum daily load (TMDL).

  • The effects of design parameters for small scale hydro power(SSHP) plants due to climate change have been studied. The model to predict hydrologic performance for SSHP plants is used in this study. The results from analysis far rainfall conditions based on KIER model show that the capacity and load factor of SSHP site had large difference between the period. Especially, the hydrologic performance of SSHP site due to rainfall condition of recent period varied in design flowrate sensitively. However climate change gave small effect in load factor of existing SSHP plant. And also, the methodology represented in this study can be used to decide the primary design specifications of SSHP sites.

  • This study represents the method to predict the flow duration curve and primary design specifications of small hydropower plant at hydropower site through analyzing the monthly rainfall data. Weibull distribution was selected to characterize the rainfall data and Thiessen method was used to calculate monthly average flowrate at site. Application of these results, primary design specifications such as design flowrate, annual average load factor and utility factor, annual average hydropower density and annual electric energy production were estimated and discussed for surveyed site located in Daigi-ri, Kangwon province. And performance characteristic model of small hydro-power plant was applied to estimate these specifications.

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the effect of artificial soil ground on a structure. When the artificial soil ground is planted, the technical factors to be considered will be the load for buildings and the growth of plants. There are no current studies of the effect of artificial soil ground on a structure and this study will analyze the load effects of artificial soil ground, which mixes both pearlite and natural soil on structures. The load affecting the structures due to artificial soil ground will be maximized when the artificial soil ground becomes saturated, and which would occur when the rainfall intensity exceeds the infiltration capacity of the artificial soil ground. In order to determine whether the artificial soil ground has reached saturation or not, a 10 years frequency and 10 minutes rainfall intensity which is used for in urban drain design, is utilized. The hydraulic conductivity of artificial soil and mixed soil has been changed depending on the proportion of the mix, It has a range of fluctuation in the degree of hardening, in particular, but does not exceed the 10 minutes rainfall intensity over 10 years frequency in the most cases. Therefore, it would be efficient to apply the saturated unit weight of artificial soil ground as the design load of a structure.
