  • In this research, the design procedure and the design method of a single-phase line-start permanent magnet motor (LSPM) are proposed. In the design procedure, the permanent magnet is designed first and the windings and capacitors are designed later. As well, the points of design of each design parameter are explained. In the design of the single-phase LSPM, the equivalent circuit method is combined with the finite element method (FEM) because it has a shorter analysis time than FEM. The 400 watts single-phase LSPM is designed and manufactured. The characteristics of the manufactured single-phase LSPM are analyzed and experimented. From the analysis result and the experiment result, it is verified that the design procedure and the design method of the single-phase LSPM is valid.

  • This paper is concerned with winding design in capacitor-run single phase motor. Winding design in single phase induction motor is more complicated than that in three phase induction motor, because of using concentric winding in the single phase. Various winding designs are possible, and accordingly layout of the slot is calculated by formula. And then accurate design of winding is available. Using the design process in this paper, we can get the base model with slot layout and turns of windings of 1.12 kW single phase induction motor, and it is verified by finite element analysis. In this paper, winding design and winding layout of single-phase induction motor using concentric winding are suggested.

  • The design phase has a great influence on the success of subsequent phases in the project which can be connected with the success of the overall project. Several studies have focused on the effective design management. However, it is too complicated and difficult to manage the design process for the reason that it has a lot of participants and design information and consists of thousands of decisions by an architect alone. Accordingly, it is the main issue for the success of the project how well the design phase be organized and managed. In recent, even in domestic, the importance of design phase has begun to be referred in the conferences. Lean Construction also has a close look at those issues and makes ready to apply specific management methods, called to Lean Design & Construction. Managers can consider a variety of uncertainties to be under control through making the overall process effectively from the early stage. By establishing the efficient process from the design phase before the construction phase, managers can result in a desirable productivity. The aim of this study is to bring the concept (Lean Design & Construction) in domestic design circumstances and verifies the possibility how to apply the concept to the design phase.

  • Current MEP designs are mostly applied by 2D-based design methods and tend to focus on simple modeling or geometry information expression such as converting 2D-written drawings into 3D modeling without taking advantage of the strength of BIM application. To increase the demand for BIM-based MEP design, geometric information, and property information of each member of the 3D model must be conveniently linked from the phase of the Design Development (DD) to the phase of Construction Document (CD). To conveniently implement a detailed model at each phase, the detailed level of each member of the 3D model must be specific, and an automatic generation of objects at each phase and automatic detailing module for each LOD are required. However, South Korea's guidelines have comprehensive standards for the degree of MEP modeling details for each design phase, and the application of each design phase is ambiguous. Furthermore, in practice, detailed levels of each phase are input manually. Therefore, this paper summarized the detailed standards of MEP modeling for each design phase through interviews with MEP design companies and related literature research. In addition, items that enable auto-detailing with DYNAMO were selected using the checklist for each design phase, and the types of detailed methods were presented. Auto-detailing items considering the detailed level of each phase were classified by members. If a DYNAMO algorithm is produced that automates selected auto-detailing items in this paper, the time and costs required for modeling construction will be reduced, and the demand for MEP design will increase.

  • In this paper, we propose a 7-phase life cycle model which applies to Computer Integrated Manufacturing systems. The model emphasizes product design and manufacturing design activities of CIM to secure the critical success factors of CIM systems such as high quality, adaptability, productivity, and flexibility. It is argued that the product design aspect would be divided into three phases-conceptual design, embodiment design, and detialed design. The conceptual design phase is to build a conceptual model of the product based on requirements and specifications which reflect "the voice of the customer". THe embodiment design phase utilizes specific design tools such as DFM, CAE, and CAD, and results in a concrete model of the product and parts. The detailed design phase is to crete a working prototype of the product and design tools such as DFA. CAD and CAM are employed in this phase. The output of the product design activity is to be the input for the manufacturing design activity. Using the proposed model, one can effectively and efficiently manufacture a high-quality, low-cost product with short delivery time, and above all achieve customer'ssatisfaction.isfaction.

  • This paper is aiming to apply the Genetic Algorithms (GAs) to the interactive design. For that purpose, the scheme for utilizing the past design processes for the next interactive design process is proposed. In this scheme, the process consists of three phases: the searching phase, the tuning phase and the design phase. The first phase searches the optimal decision sequences for the past design instances by GAs. By the collected sequences, the second phase tunes the criteria of selecting decision sequences for the next design process. By this scheme, the implicit constraints satisfied in the past design can be applied to the next design. Finally, the computer simulations on the simple gear-train design were carried out to show the effectiveness of the scheme.

  • Plant Engineering is a series of activities going through following life cycle phases: planning, basic design, detailed design, procurement and construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance, to produce a target product. From among these phases of plant engineering life cycle, a detailed design phase is an important phase producing final design deliveries. Luckily, through technical co-operation and experiences of constructing plants, large Korean engineering companies have accumulated know-hows of efficient detailed designs. However, smaller engineering companies have less experience of performing detailed designs so there is always a risk of causing design errors in the detailed design phase. To mitigate the risk of design errors in the detailed design phase, it is necessary to systematize a concrete activity model of a detailed design phase. In this paper, we have developed a prototype of a detailed design activity model through a widely used function modeling methodology called IDEF0.

  • In this paper, we develop design procedures for carrier tracking loop for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems or other systems of blocked data. In such communication systems, phase error measurements are made infrequent enough to invalidate the traditional loop design methodology which is based on analog loop design. We analyze the degradation in the OFDM schemes caused by the tracking loop and show how the performance is dependent on the rms phase error, where we distinguished between the effect of the variance in the average phase over the symbol and the effect of the phase change over the symbol. We derive the optimal tracking loop including optional delay in the loop caused by processing time. Our solution is general and includes arbitrary phase noise apd additive noise spectrums. In order to guarantee a well behaved solution, we have to check the design against margin constraints subject to uncertainties. In case the optimal loop does not meet the required margin constraints subjected to uncertainties, it is shown how to apply a method taken from control theory to find a controller. Alternatively, if we restrict the solution to first or second order loops, we give a simple loop design procedure which may be sufficient in many cases. Extensions of the method are shown for using both pilot symbols and data symbols in the OFDM receiver for phase tracking. We compare our results to other methods commonly used in OFDM receivers and we show that a large improvement can be gained.
