  • This paper proposes a web-based adaptive tutoring system based on fuzzy set that provides learning materials and questions dynamically according to students' knowledge state, and gives advices for the learning after an evaluation. For this, we design a courseware knowledge structure systematically and then construct a fuzzy level set on the basis of it considering importance of learning targets, difficulty of learning materials and relation degree between learning targets and learning materials. Using the fuzzy level set, our system offers learning materials and questions to adapt to individual students. Moreover, a result of the test is evaluated with fuzzy linguistic variable. Appling the fuzzy concept to the tutoring system could naturally consider and deal with various and uncertain items of learning environment thus could offer more flexible and effective instruction-learning methods.

  • The main objective of this study is to evaluate the long-term performance of various concrete composites in natural marine environment prevailing in the Gulf region. Durability assessment studies of such nature are usually carried out under aggressive environments that constitute seawater, chloride and sulfate laden soils and wind, and groundwater conditions. These studies are very vital for sustainable development of marine and off shore reinforced concrete structures of industrial design such as petroleum installations. First round of testing and evaluation, which is presented in this paper, were performed by standard tests under laboratory conditions. Laboratory results presented in this paper will be corroborated with test outcome of ongoing three years field exposure conditions. The field study will include different parameters of investigation for high performance concrete including corrosion inhibitors, type of reinforcement, natural and industrial pozzolanic additives, water to cement ratio, water type, cover thickness, curing conditions, and concrete coatings. Like the laboratory specimens, samples in the field will be monitored for corrosion induced deterioration signs and for any signs of failureover initial period ofthree years. In this paper, laboratory results pertaining to microsilica (SF), ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS), epoxy coated rebars and calcium nitrite corrosion inhibitor are very conclusive. Results affirmed that the supplementary cementing materials such as GGBS and SF significantly impacted and enhanced concrete resistivity to chloride ions penetration and hence decrease the corrosion activities on steel bars protected by such concretes. As for epoxy coated rebars applications under high chloride laden conditions, results showed great concern to integrity of the epoxy coating layer on the bar and its stability. On the other hand corrosion inhibiting admixtures such as calcium nitrite proved to be more effective when used in combination with the pozzolanic additives such as GGBS and microsilica.

  • A through diaphragm is often used to ensure their stiffness for moment-resisting connections using rectangular steel-tube column and H-shaped beam. The through-diaphragm connections, however, have some difficulties for their applicabilities to the field due to the complexity of the fabrication and construction processes. This study thus proposes a new modular system of steel structures assembled only using bolts without welding, by bringing a connection module composed of rectangular steel-tube column, H-shaped beam and oneway bolt onto the site. An experimental study to evaluate the seismic performance of the proposed connection details based on the new modular system is then conducted. The length and type of the inner reinforcement plate are considered as the primary design parameters, and the strength, stiffness, ductility and energy dissipation capability of the new connections are experimentally analyzed by comparison to those of conventional through diaphragm connections.

  • With the possibility of wireless control of the aircraft by Nicola Tesla, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV) was mainly used for military and defense purposes with the rapid development through World War I and II. As civilian applications of unmanned aerial vehicles have expanded, they have been used with various services, and attempts have been made to control various environmental changes and risk factors of unmanned aerial vehicles. However, GPS spoofing, Jamming attack and security accidents are occurring due to the communication in the unmaned aerial vehicle system or the security vulnerability of the unmanned aerial vehicle itself. In order to secure introduction of Unmanned aerial vehicle, South Korea has established Unmanned Aerial Vehicle verification system called Airworthiness Certification. However, the existing cerfication system is more focused on test flight, design and structure's safety and reliability. In this paper, we propose a unmanned aerial vehicle system model and propose security functional requirements on unmanned aerial vehicle system in the corresponding system model for secure-introduction of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. We suggest the development direction of verification technology. From this proposal, future development directions of evaluation and verification technology of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle will be presented.

  • The current ACI design code does not take into account the contribution of concrete for the torsional moment of reinforced concrete(RC) beams subjected to pure torsion. This code is not capable of evaluating the inter-effects between concrete and torsional reinforcement on the torsional resistance of the RC beams. Some test results indicated that the current ACI code was not successful in predicting the observed torsional moment of the RC beams with reasonable accuracy. The research reported in this paper provides an evaluation equation to predict the torsional moment of the RC beams subjected to pure torsion. The proposed equation is derived from the equilibrium as well as compatibility equations of the truss model for the cracked RC beams. Comparisons between the observed and calculated torsional moments of the 66 tested beams, showed reasonable agreement.

  • The purpose of this research was to examine the subjective evaluation of sensory images and preferences according to the mechanical properties of linen and ramie fabrics for summer shirts. 54 male and female teachers evaluated the sensory images and preferences of 6 specimens of linen and ramie fabrics sold on the market. For statistical analysis, factor analysis, Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis test, Pearson correlation, and regression were used. The results were as follows: The sensory images of shirt fabrics were classified into 5 factors: 'smoothness', 'stiffness', 'elasticity', 'dry/coolness', and 'wetness'. There were partially significant differences by the gender and age in the sensory images for the shirt fabrics. Females were more sensitive than males for the 'stiffness', 'elasticity', and 'wetness' factor and the evaluators in their 20's felt fabrics were stiffer. The sensory images showed many correlations with the mechanical properties of fabric mostly. The preferences of tactile and purchase were no different according to the gender and age. They preferred a thin and soft sensory image as like ramie/cotton blended fabric and bamboo fabric for summer shirts. The significant sensory image factors affecting tactile preference were 'smoothness', 'dry/coolness', and 'elasticity', and the ones affecting purchase preference were 'smoothness', 'stiffness', 'dry/coolness', and 'elasticity'. W, WT, MMD, and G properties of the mechanical properties of fabrics affected the tactile preference for summer shirt fabrics.

  • Background: This study aimed to compare the pain levels during anesthesia and the efficacy of the QuickSleeper intraosseous (IO) injection system and conventional inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB) in impacted mandibular third molar surgery. Methods: This prospective randomized clinical trial included 30 patients (16 women, 14 men) with bilateral symmetrical impacted mandibular third molars. Thirty subjects randomly received either the IO injection or conventional IANB at two successive appointments. A split-mouth design was used in which each patient underwent treatment of a tooth with one of the techniques and treatment of the homologous contralateral tooth with the other technique. The subjects received 1.8 mL of 2% articaine. Subjects' demographic data, pain levels during anesthesia induction, tooth extractions, and mouth opening on postoperative first, third, and seventh days were recorded. Pain assessment ratings were recorded using the 100-mm visual analog scale. The latency and duration of the anesthetic effect, complications, and operation duration were also analyzed in this study. The duration of anesthetic effect was considered using an electric pulp test and by probing the soft tissue with an explorer. Results: Thirty patients aged between 18 and 47 years (mean age, 25 years) were included in this study. The IO injection was significantly less painful with lesser soft tissue numbness and quicker onset of anesthesia and lingual mucosa anesthesia with single needle penetration than conventional IANB. Moreover, 19 out of 30 patients (63%) preferred transcortical anesthesia. Mouth opening on postoperative first day was significantly better with intraosseous injection than with conventional IANB (P = 0.013). Conclusion: The IO anesthetic system is a good alternative to IANB for extraction of the third molar with less pain during anesthesia induction and sufficient depth of anesthesia for the surgical procedure.

  • As a right-of-way security for the high power transmission line tower construction is becoming more and more difficult, the friendly environmental compact tower design is required. For a proper insulation for the compact tower, the polymer material are being tried. Some countries has already adapted, in the various polymer application and management data, polymer arm insulator to the transmission tower, and shown a stable operation. However, in our country, the polymer arm insulator has left much to be desired in the installation on the transmission line tower. But polymer material has been developed by high strength and technology and is expected to be used in various electric equipments. The polymer arm insulator is a one of good electric insulation materials to expand the power supply capacity in the rapid power demand increasement In this research, the new polymer am insulator is designed and its electric specifications are analyzed. Its mechanical specifications is verified through the field test on the compact tower which is modified by the polymer arm insulator.

  • The development of reinforced-roadbed material in substitute for existing roadbed is necessary to protect its failure from the dynamic stress and vibration caused by the traveling of the high-speed and heavy trains. The water quenched blast furnace slag having potential hydraulic reactivity is one of the materials in substitute for soil reinforced-roadbed. We carried out the study of basic properties of roadbed material using Portland cement and CSA(calcium sulphoaluminate) as the activator for the evaluation of its application. As the result of the strength test, this material satisfied design criterion for reinforced-roadbed. Optimum mixing ratio of this reinforced-roadbed material was 15 ~ 17.5 percent of cement and 2.5 percent of CSA by weight of the blast furnace slag. Especially, as permeability is above $10^{-3}$cm/sec, this material proved to have functions of both reinforced roadbed and drainage layer.
