  • Using the genetic algorithm, the optimal-design technique of the Nielsen arch bridge was proposed in this paper. The design parameters were the arch-rise ratio and the steel weight ratio of the Nielsen arch bridge, and optimal-design techniques were utilized to analyze the behavior of the bridge. The optimal parameter values were determined for the estimated optimal level. The parameter determination requires the standardization of the safety, utility, and economic concepts as the critical factors of a structure. For this, a genetic algorithm was used, whose global-optimal-solution search ability is superior to the optimization technique, and whose object function in the optimal design is the total weight of the structure. The constraints for the optimization were displacement, internal stress, and time and space. The structural analysis was a combination of the small displacement theory and the genetic algorithm, and the runtime was reduced for parallel processing. The optimal-design technique that was developed in this study was employed and deduced using the optimal arch-rise ratio, steel weight ratio, and optimal-design domain. The optimal-design technique was presented so it could be applied in the industry.

  • The technique of integrated design optimization is proposed to design spatial structures. Various element technologies such as topology optimization, layout editing and size optimization processes are used in an integrated manner to improve the performance of spatial structures. In order to demonstrate the present technique, a unit spatial structure is optimized and numerical results are described here.

  • Recently, construction project has greatly increased the needs for cost savings due to excessive competition and economic recession. The purpose of this study is to introduce application of building using optimal design technique for improving constructability and economic efficiency of structural wall. As a results, design results of irregular wall show about 15% reduction of the longitudinal bar compared to single walls and ultimately improve constructability.

  • At researching the history of furniture design, furniture based on the bentwood technique was often seen. There are different bending ways of wood. Among others the steam bending technique had been used since long time, but it's detailed method has been much less studied in Korea yet. The aim of the present study was to investigate the theoretical approach and making ways & process of the steam bending technique, and furthermore to utilize it for the works of the students majoring furniture design. This intends that the steam bending technique will be widely distributed by doing a mock up and it will be diversely used for development of more different furniture designs.

  • The purpose of this research is to apply GIS(Geographic Information System) for the road simulation and find some benefits analysis for the design processes. The northern Jeju island was selected as a case study. The 1/5,000 digital map and GIS technique were used for optimum road design of the island based on Arc View software. Using this software we can get an overlay map by combination of hill shade map, slope map, aspect map, and building buffer map. Based on the overlay map, we designed the optimum road line and performed three dimensional simulation. From the results, we found that the developed three dimensional road simulation technique using GIS technique that was very useful tool to estimate the reasonable road design before the real road construction works.

  • The objective of this study was to derive a list of creative thinking techniques applied with the requirements of the appropriate technique for the task of fashion design development among the process of fashion product planning. This was done through the analysis of thinking techniques by the type of thinking and idea method. Also, the study presented how each creative thinking technique derived is applied to the task of developing fashion design. The scope of the study was 'Fashion Design Development Task', which corresponds to the design sketch of a fashion item based on the seasonal design concept derived through the fashion design planning stage. Research on the thinking techniques consisted largely of the process of idea thinking, the elements of creative thinking, the patterns and types of thinking. Four studies by Makoto, Michalko, De Bono, and Cox suggesting that the patterns and types of thinking techniques were analyzed for the purpose of this study as empirical studies through FGI of a group of five fashion experts. The analysis results showed that the thinking techniques suitable for the development of fashion design were derived from the technique of fractionation, attributive listing, scamper, morphological analysis, mind mapping, lotus blossom, pattern language, provocative operation, and forced connection. In particular, it can be confirmed that the scamper was treated as an efficient and practical technique in the many studies.

  • The problems with the small exhibition buildings such a small gallery and art center recently constructed did not make the characteristics of the place specifying and did not form a big flow in the line of urban connection. Also it was deficient in the image like a cultural space because of the commercial aspects of the individual buildings. According to this view, this study is to evaluate the exteriors of the small exhibition buildings that the public prefers on the psychological side as a design theory and then, it is to present the direction of desirable form constitution hereafter. In the design of the small exhibition buildings exterior that the public must prefers, the principles and techniques of constitution that operate are the most initiative as follows. As for the principles of unity in the constitution of the small exhibition buildings exterior that the public prefers, Eigen Value is 7.573 and the explanatory force takes 21.637% at the top and it plays a leading role. In the comparison of the appearance, it shows that it is a factor with the largest specific gravity. The next factors were grouped in good order: the balance, ornamental technique, change, shipping technique, rhythm, harmony, symbolic technique, area technique and adding technique. As a result, in the design of the small exhibition buildings exterior, the architects have to constitute the principles of balance, change, rhythm and harmony by most of the unity and the symbolic technique and form technique by most of the ornamental techniques harmoniously and have to give Identity like exhibition buildings.

  • The hull form design technique for high speed power boat based on the parametric design method is presented in this paper. While the design methods of conventional vessels that are currently in use have been well developed in various aspects from existing database. However, an easy and simple design program for high speed power boats needs to be provided for the relatively small boat builders who are in lack of experience and skilled manpower. This paper presents a parametric design technique which is aimed to provide an easier creation of a new model by inputting several parameters, such as angles and lengths, which correlate with hydrodynamics characteristic for high speed boats. The paper also introduces the prototype program developed to design power boat with parametric design technique.

  • The first function of occlusion is mastication. Therefore the functional restoration of occlusal surface is very important. The restoration of occlusal surface is three method as wax bite technique, F.G.P. technique, cone technique. Many dental technician is using compound method. I am using compound method of wax bite technique and cone technique. I have knew common point on each teeth during I have waxing up wax pattern. So I studied on the design waxup technique for mandible molar occlusion. The results of the study were as follows; 1. The dam wax up method can restore axial contour of teeth very easy and make short working time of wax pattern. 2. The height of dam must be same with cusp of adjacent teeth. 3. Automatically the contour of tooth is appeared if the contour of dam is relationship with cuspid line of adjacent teeth. 4. The height of contour of buccal, lingual surface is formed natural curve to add fluid wax by gravitation. 5. The development groove of mandible first premolar is appeared V form. 6. The development groove of mandible second premolar is appeared Y form. 7, The development groove of mandible first molar is appeared M form. 8. The development groove of mandible second molar is W form. 9. The embrasure is formed to carve around contact point area as round convex. It affects to axial form of tooth. 10. The buccal, lingual groove of molar is formed parallel with direction of teeth arrangement.
