  • Design sensitivity analysis scheme is proposed in an elasto -plastic finite element method with explicit time integration using a direct differentiation method. The direct differentiation is concerned with large deformation, the elasto-plastic constitutive relation, shell elements with reduced integration and the contact scheme. The design sensitivities with respect to the process parameter are calculated with the direct analytical differentiation of the governing equation. The sensitivity results obtained from the present theory are compared with that obtained by the finite difference method in a class of sheet metal forming problems such as hemi-spherical stretching and cylindrical cup deep-drawing. The result shows good agreement with the finite difference method and demonstrates that the preposed sensitivity calculation scheme is a pplicable in the complicated sheet metal forming analysis and design.

  • In this paper, a method to apply the simulated annealing method to three dimensional layout design problem which has multiple constraint conditions and evaluation criteria, was suggested. A program to support three dimensional layout design was developed according to the suggested method. This program was applied to the layout design of the wireless unmaned ocean space submergible boat. The layout result was improved 19.0% for the result of layout design expert. By this, it was verified that the suggested method has validity in supporting three dimensional layout design problem.

  • This study proposes a unified method to design toroidal transformer and its optimal design algorithm. This unified design method was derived from the fundamental equation of power on the basis of electromagnetic energy of a core and the definition of three parameters(K1, K2, KW) that influence the form of a core and the ratio of a core and coil. Accordingly this design method condenses the whole data for design of toroidal transformer to a standard variable which is the inner diameter of a core. The minimal cost, weight and volume values of the transformer were computed by means of the algorithm to search the optimal values of the parameters. Furthermore, through the CAD, the efficiency of this unified design method and optimal algorithm proposed in this paper was confirmed.

  • The genetic algorithm (GA) which is one of the popular optimum algorithm has been used to solve a variety of optimum problems. Because it need not require the gradient of objective function and is easier to find global solution than gradient-based optimum algorithm using the gradient of objective function. However optimum method using the GA and the finite element method (FEM) takes many computational time to solve the optimum structural design problem which has a great number of design variables, constraints, and system with many degrees of freedom. In order to overcome the drawback of the optimum structural design using the GA and the FEM, the author developed a computer program which can optimize frame structures by using the GA and the generalized transfer stiffness coefficient method. In order to confirm the effectiveness of the developed program, it is applied to optimum design of plane frame structures. The computational results by the developed program were compared with those of iterative design.

  • This paper presents the reverse design of a cam mechanism using NURBS(Nonuniform Rational B-spline curve). Cam is very difficult to make the accurate shape on the design and the manufacture. Because the cam shape is commonly made in order to move in special functions. The reverse design can be used to check accuracy between the designed data and the manufactured data of the cam shape and also reproduce the cam without the design data. The reverse design procedures consist of motion analysis and curve fitting. The motion analysis is used the central difference method and the relative velocity method to find the displacement and velocity. The curve fitting is used NURBS to develope the whole curve. The central difference method is derived in the 3 dimensional space.

  • Design sensitivity analysis of a vehicle system is an essential tool for design optimization and trade-off studies. Most optimization algorithms require the derivatives of cost and constraint function with respect to design in order to calculate the next improved design. This paper presents an efficient algorithm application for the design sensitivity analysis, using the direct differentiation method. A mounting area of suspension that welded on chassis frame is analyzed to show the validity and the efficiency of the proposed method.   • An efficient and high-fidelity design approach for wing-body shape optimization is presented. Depending on the size of design space and the number of design of variable, aerodynamic shape optimization process is carried out via different optimization strategies at each design stage. In the first stage, global optimization techniques are applied to planform design with a few geometric design variables. In the second stage, local optimization techniques are used for wing surface design with a lot of design variables to maintain a sufficient design space with a high DOF (Degree of Freedom) geometric change. For global optimization, Kriging method in conjunction with Genetic Algorithm (GA) is used. Asearching algorithm of EI (Expected Improvement) points is introduced to enhance the quality of global optimization for the wing-planform design. For local optimization, a discrete adjoint method is adopted. By the successive combination of global and local optimization techniques, drag minimization is performed for a multi-body aircraft configuration while maintaining the baseline lift and the wing weight at the same time. Through the design process, performances of the test models are remarkably improved in comparison with the single stage design approach. The performance of the proposed design framework including wing planform design variables can be efficiently evaluated by the drag decomposition method, which can examine the improvement of various drag components, such as induced drag, wave drag, viscous drag and profile drag.

  • Built-up environments by humans are cultural byproducts which combine social ideology and architectural paradigm. The process of modernization in the Western countries has the characteristic of decisive paradgm based on materialism. Therefore, environmental design in modern world failed to focus on the essential features of humanity which are the subject of space and replaced it for objective and unilateral architectural environments, instead. Environment without supporting the human psychological and complicated behaviorism is as same as the hardware without the vitality. under these regards, this study will cover the design approach of pattern language as a design method of environment design. The purpose of design approach by pattern language lies in creating the space of flexibility, adaptability and strong vitality. It is summed up as humanization in space and it helps the user to verbalize individualized space language for their own. The range and method of in the study attribute to the pattern language of Christopher Alexander and a researcher' method on them. In premise that human behavior ought to the multilateral and indefinite under rapid change of circumstances in modern world, th study tried to find the design method stimulating creative behavior of human being.

  • The size and layout of user interface components need to be optimally designed in terms of reachability, visibility, clearance, and compatibility in order for efficient and effective use of products. The present study develops an ergonomic design method which optimizes the size and layout of user interface components using adaptive genetic algorithm. The developed design method determines a near-optimal design which maximizes the aggregated score of 4 ergonomic design criteria (reachability, visibility, clearance, and compatibility). The adaptive genetic algorithm used in the present study finds a near-optimum by automatically adjusting the key parameter (probability of mutation) of traditional genetic algorithm according to the characteristic of current solutions. Since the adaptive mechanism partially helps to overcome the local optimality problem, the probability of finding the near-optimum has been substantially improved. To evaluate the effectiveness of the developed design method, the present study applied it to the user interface design for a portable wireless communication radio.

  • We introduce the systematization design method using analogical analysis. The design method can make us predict the characteristic experiment for the magnitude we desire as the expression equation applied continuously. We can induce the design sample the users demand with the verification of the data on optimum design previously. Therefore in case of designing and developing the products systematization design method is very useful for the standardization of the developed goods compatability the reduction of construction time and price. In this paper we present the analogical algorithms of systematization design using similarity theory design factors and processing method of the restriction factors. Also we analyze the output voltage in terms of input voltage and displacement as choosing a differential transformer as the model.
