  • The automatic design of shell & tube type oil cooler can be used in real industrial environments. Since the automatic design system is intended to be used in small companies, it is designed to be operated well under environments of CAD package in the personal computer. It has adopted GUI in design system, and has employed DCl language. Design parameters to be considered in the design stage of shell and tube type oil cooler are type of oil cooler, outer diameter, thickness, length of tube, tube arrangement, tube pitch, flow rate, inlet and outlet temperature, physical properties, premissive pressure loss on both sides, type of baffle plate, baffle plate cutting ratio, clearance between baffle plate outer diameter and shell inner diameter and clearance between baffle plate holes. As a result, the automatic design system of shell & tube type oil cooler is constructed by the environment of CAD software using LISP. We have built database of design data for various kinds of shell & tube type oil coolers. The automatic design system have been assessed and compared with existing specification of design. Good agreement with Handbook of heat exchanger and design dta of real industrial environments has been found.

  • One of the characteristics in the modem society is the overflow of the communication. The invention of various merchandise and the development of information and comunication changed the society of verbal characterization into that of visible environments. To establish the effective communication in these changes, the package has to understand, specify, and deliver the needs of the consumers by the thorough analysis of the marketing plans and the marketing strategies. In this thesis we considered the conception of the marketing and the change of the marketing environments, studied the close relationship between the marketing and the package and, furthermore, introduced the package process as one of the effective communication methods. The purpose of this thesis is to introduce the marketing strategies. to develope the theoretical processes of the package design as a communication method which can cope with the change of the marketing environments caused by that of the consumer's favorites.

  • Currently, engineering design is carried out in a distributed manner geographically or physically. This imposes new requirements on the computational environments, such as efficient integration and collaboration in the Internet and network environments. Meanwhile, Web-based distributed design has led new paradigms in design and manufacturing fields. For example, Web-based technologies have reduced the product development time and to ensure a competitive product in order to exchange and interact of real-time design information that integrates the distributed design environment between departments as well as companies via Internet and Web. Hence, efficient data communication for design information sharing is the basis for collaborative systems in the distributed environments. Design data communication techniques such as CORBA, DCOM, and JAVA RMI have been considered in the existing research, but these techniques have some disadvantages such as limitations of interoperability and firewall problems. This paper presents the application of engineering design problems in which distributed design information resources are integrated and exchanged using Web Service for supporting XML and HTTP without interoperability and firewall problems.

  • A flexible and correct model of the activity flows is required for workflows in product development environments. In particular, the design activity flows are not known until run-time, and conventional approaches have limit to handle this situation because they cannot predefine all the potentially reachable paths. Thus, the structure of the workflow model must be flexible enough to describe variety in workflow design and accommodate dynamic changes during workflow execution. In this paper, we provide the general primitive axioms and change patterns based on event calculus for dynamic workflow specification and execution mechanisms in product development environments. Also, we describe how to execute the workflow dynamically based on the workflow specification and workflow change patterns using abductive planning technique.

  • I proposed the architectural guideline for educational environment based on design thinking approach to integrate and enhance learners' activities and achievements. The physical environment of design education learning space should be applied by teaching methods and learning activities, especially for STEAM-based convergent education, the architectural space conditions should support the design process based on design thinking. The learning environment conditions influence design education with physical design factors and learners' communication, and the flexible environment based on design thinking, which is crucial for design education. The 3 steps of design thinking experiences also allow students to learn the context of ideas, skills and outcomes. Therefore, I argued that the learning surrounding based on design thinking needs flexible and mobile, connected, integrated, organized, and team-focused environments to support learners' understanding, participation, and collaboration, and to achieve the design process based on research findings. For spaces for convergent learning environments based on design thinking, common design principles should be reviewed, such as coexistence with technology, safety and security, transparency and spatial extension, multi-purpose space and outdoor learning.

  • Energy consumption has been increased world widely, and the energy retain is one of the most important economic alternatives. These tendencies expand the nuclear power plants not only quantitatively but also qualitatively. Despite of the increasing construction of nuclear power plants and related facilities, every system in main control room(MCR) has been designed and administered solely based on the safety-first principles because of the specificity of nuclear industry. However, recent main control rooms started with the concept that the operators' performance could be optimized though the organic interrelation between human, machine, and environments. Now, it has been recognised in the scope of Ergonomics and Space Design which acknowledge our living spaces as Man-Environment Interface and this change connotes the MCR spaces should be special spaces rather than ordinary spaces. This research investigated domestic and foreign nuclear power plants' MCRs to suggest basic alternatives which can be applied to future MCR. With the review of characteristics of MCR, an integration of interior design, lighting and Ergonomics was explored and classified as types. Futhermore, the classification of environmental characteristics within the relationships between human, machine, and environments was developed through the case analysis of nuclear power plants. The results of this study will provide a basis of space design for system environments that the high level of safety and function are extremely important.

  • In recent years, motivated by the emergence of ubiquitous computing technologies, a new class of networked robots, ubiquitous robots, has been introduced. The Ubiquitous Robotic Companion (URC) is our conceptual vision of ubiquitous service robots that provide users with the services they need, anytime and anywhere in ubiquitous computing environments. To realize the vision of URC, one of the essential requirements for robotic systems is to support ubiquity of services: that is, a robot service must be always available even though there are changes in the service environments. Specifically robotic systems need to be automatically interoperable with sensors and devices in current service environments, rather than statically preprogrammed for them. In this paper, the design and implementation of a semantic-based ubiquitous robotic space (SemanticURS) is presented. SemanticURS enables automated integration of networked robots into ubiquitous computing environments exploiting Semantic Web Services and AI-based planning technologies.

  • Although concrete is believed to be a durable material, concrete structures have been degraded by severe environmental conditions such as the effects of chloride and chemical, abrasion, and other deterioration processes. Therefore, durability evaluation has been required to ensure the long term serviceability of structures located in chloride exposed environments. Recently, probability-based durability analysis and design have proven to be reliable for the service-life predictions of concrete structures. This approach has been successfully applied to durability estimation and design of concrete structures. However, currently it is difficult to find an appropriate method engineers can use to solve these probability-based diffusion problems. In this paper, computer software has been developed to facilitate probability-based durability analysis and design. This software predict the chloride diffusion using the Monte Carlo simulation method based on Fick's second law, and provides durability analysis and design solutions. A graphic user interface (GUI) is adapted for intuitive and easy use. The developed software is very useful not only for prediction of the service life but for the durability design of the concrete structures exposed to chloride environments.
