Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of simulation-based education using high-fidelity simulator and standardized patient in nursing care for children with fever on nursing students. Methods: A total of 166 senior nursing students who completed pediatric nursing practicum courses participated in this study. The single group study design with pretest and posttest was used. The simulation education was provided for 200mins including orientation, simulation preparation, simulation practicum, and debriefing. Pre and post surveys were performed using questionnaires on clinical performance competency, communication skills, critical thinking disposition and self-confidence. Results: The mean scores of clinical performance competency (t=-2.56, p<.05), communication skills (t=-6.39, p<.001), critical thinking disposition (t=-3.43, p<.001), and self-confidence (t=-3.72, p<.001) in posttest were significantly higher than those in pretest. Also, clinical performance competency in nursing care for children with fever has significant relationships with communication skills, critical thinking disposition and self-confidence. Conclusion: The results indicate that simulation-based education using high-fidelity simulator and standardized patient is an effective strategy for improving clinical performance competency, communication skills, critical thinking disposition and self-confidence in nursing students. Further study is needed to verify the effects.
We developed an education program for parents of adolescents titled Parents from Mars getting through to children from Venus. The program consists of five two-hour sessions each with a different theme; (1) parent-child communication, (2) study activities, (3) computer use, (4) children's daily expenses, and (5) children's daily-life plan. The program was test-run with seventeen participants, which included mothers of 4th grade(elementary school) to 9th grade (middle school) children. Based on data analysis, we found that average satisfaction level was 3.80 out of 5.00 and average goal accomplishment level was 3.91 out of 5.00. Most of the participants agreed that the program helped them to understand their children's problems, to look back on themselves as parents, to plan ahead, and eventually to improve their relationship with their children. However, it was also pointed out that the program needed to put more emphasis on practical lessons rather than theoretical lectures. For example, the need for more audiovisual materials, and more practical training during each session was highlighted by participants.
Purpose. This study was conducted to compare the paternal rearing behavior and rearing stress level between fathers with a preschooler and fathers with school children so that it can be utilized as a basic source for developing parental rearing education programs. Methods. A descriptive comparative methods was conducted to identify the paternal rearing behavior and paternal rearing stress. Respondents were 361 fathers who had either preschoolers (n=189) or children of elementary age (n=l72). Results. Comparing the two group's means, the rearing activity score and rearing stress there were significant differences. In the school children's group's father, 'outdoor activity' and 'guidance on discipline activity' were significantly higher than the other group. In the preschool children's fathers group, 'play interaction activity' was statistically significant higher than the other, and the child-part mean score of paternal rearing stress was significantly higher than the other group. The correlation between paternal rearing behavior and paternal rearing stress, it can be shown that more paternal rearing behavior means less paternal rearing stress. Conclusion. These results of this study will help design rearing program for fathers that have either preschool children or school children by providing the basic data for paternal rearing behaviors and paternal rearing stress.
Education using the internet, such as a virtual school and distance education, has been limited to the studies of content and method in learning, It has been less studied to make advantage of internet with regard to school administration, teachers' research, and efficient communication within a school. Therefore, it is suggested to implement groupware which can be used in a school environment. For this purpose, this study attempts to design and implement groupware on that purpose. The main content consists of 7 areas: introduction of the school(including children's room), notice room, working room, room for educational materials, individual information, parents' room, internet journey. The basic tool for a groupware is implemented on Windows NT 4.0 Server and subsequent IIS 2.0. DB management based on SQL Server 6.5 makes it enable to manage various information.

Kindergarten is the first educational experience of toddlers, where they experience living in a group environment. Carefully designed, it is intended to provide an environment for nurturing the systematic growth and development of youngsters. Through effective stimulation, young children display their abilities as they independently learn in the controlled setting of Kindergarten. This study advocates the support of educational activities through the use of systematic and scientific architectural design in order to achieve the challenging goals and results desired of Kindergarten education. Upon determining the current state of Kindergarten architectural design, I have sought to apply innovative architectural concepts which can be used to design desirable learning environment for Kindergarten aged children. In calculation of area, the average gross building area is minimum $2.3m^{2}/p$ and optimum $2.5m^{2}/p$. The area of classroom is optimum $6.8m^{2}/p$.
School activities which are opened after-school or during a vacation have been social issues as our society is nuclearized and both parents are working, so that elementary school students and middle school students are less taken care of and less concerned by their parents. It is regrettable that students are spending too much time on private academies in the situation where they cannot help but staying alone after school and where frantic fever of private education pervades their lives. For the sake of those students, the Ministry of Education announced, "Each school can open its after-school programs or vacation programs based on students and their parents' demands making it a rule of a student's voluntary participation. After school programs for elementary and middle school students are operated by local communities providing extra courses or programs in addition to regular classes. Those programs are paid by participants or supported by financial aids in order to decrease parents' burdens of costs of private education and to reduce educational gaps between rich and poor children or between the regions. After school programs are either curricular or non-curricular educational activities with students' voluntary participation, and the programs are meant to supplement and strengthen the role of public school education. Non-curricular courses that consist of various programs, in particular, are receiving good reputations by students and parents. Therefore, this study develops and operates "children's making D.I.Y. furniture" program that is one of non-curricular courses and an activity-oriented art program for children to improve their designing creativity and to help them experience their future jobs in advance. The purpose of this study is to analyze advantages and disadvantages of the program using survey and assessment methods and to find out a developmental direction focused on future-oriented and specialized educational programs for children.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess an association between nutrient intake and prevalence risk of deciduous dental caries among preschool children. Methods: A total of 922 children aged 3 to 5 years was selected from the database of Fourth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(KNHAINS). Data were included socio-demographic characteristics, oral health related behaviour, nutrient intake(carbohydrate, protein, fat, calcium, phosphate, iron, sodium and potassium), and oral health status(dft index). To assess the crude and adjusted associations, logistic regression analysis were applied considering a complex sampling design. Results: Children who were more consumed protein, calcium, phosphate, iron and sodium had slightly lower prevalence risk of deciduous dental caries after adjusting for socio-demographic characteristics and oral health related behaviour. Moreover, prevalence risk of the highest intake of phosphate and sodium(3rd tertiles) was significant lower than that of the lowest intake(1st tertiles). Conclusion: The nutrient intake was slightly associated with the prevalence risk of deciduous dental caries.
For the purpose of this analysis of trends in research on creativity of preschool children, 98 volumes with articles on the creativity of preschool children were selected from 6 reliable Korean academic journals. Analysis was for year, content, research methods, research design, and subjects. Results showed that (1) the changes by year were that the number of qualitative researches increased from 4 articles in 1998 to 24 articles in 2006. (2) The greatest amount of research content concerned educational methods for the generation of creativity. (3) Most research methods were empirical studies. (4) The most used measurement scale was the Korean Comprehensive Creativity Test for Young Children (Jeon, 2000). (5) Most data analyses were by t-test.
