  • The project for "Development of Advanced Spent Fuel Management Technology" has a plan of a demonstration for the Advanced Management Process in the hot cell of IMEF. The Advanced Management Process are being developed for efficient and safe management of spent fuels. For the demonstration, several devices which are used to safely transport and handle nuclear materials without scattering have been derived by analyzing the Advanced Management Process, object nuclear material and modules of process equipment and performing graphical simulation of transportation/handling by computers. For verification, powder transportation vessel and handling device have been designed and manufactured. And several tests such as transporting, grappling, rotating the vessel have been performed. Also, the design requirements of transportation/handling equipment have been analyzed based on test results and process studies. The developed design requirements in this research will be used as the design data for the Advanced Management Process.

  • Necessity of demonstration test to evaluate the structural integrity of a basket for accident conditions arose during license approval procedure for the WSPP's dry storage facility named MACSTOR/KN-400. A drop test facility for demonstration was constructed in KAERI site and demonstration tests for basket drop were conducted. As the upper welding region of a loaded basket was collided with a dropped basket during the drop test, the welding in this region was fractured and leakage happened after the drop test. The enhancement of basket design was needed since the existing basket design was not able to satisfy the performance requirement. The directions for design modification were determined and six enhanced designs were derived based on these directions. Structural analyses and specimen tests for each enhanced design were conducted. By evaluating structural analysis results and test results, one among six enhanced designs was decided as a final design for revision. The final design was the one to reduce the height of central post of a basket and to decrease the impact velocity with a dropped basket. Test basket models were fabricated with accordance with the final enhanced design. Additional demonstration test was performed for this test model and all the performance requirements were satisfied.

  • The worldwide Status-of-Art survey for the in-situ experiments of the engineered barrier system for HLW underground disposal was performed as a preliminary action for the design of the in-situ demonstration at KURT. Some nations, which have executed or is ongoing the in-situ experiments at their underground research facilities, were summarized in this review. The demonstration projects reviewed were TBT/Sweden-France, LOT/Sweden, HE-E/Switzerland, PRACLAY/Belgium, FEBEX/Spain, HORONOBE/Japan, and BCE/Canada. The investigated items for the projects were mainly their purposes, constitutional structures, test conditions, monitoring parameters and the measuring tools, and test results. In this review, the hardware design and the assembling of the test system were more concentrated rather than their experimental results, because the purpose of this review is to achieve the necessary information for the practical design of the in-situ experiment to be installed at KURT. A mid scale in-situ demonstration of EBS at KURT, that is called IN-DBES, will be launched right after the completion the expanding project of KURT in 2015. It is hoped that the structural design, installing methods, hardware equipments required in the establishment of IN-DEBS will be referred on this review.

  • Low pressure combustion tests for TDM(Technology Demonstration Model) of 75 tonf thrust chamber were performed. It has design chamber pressure of 60 bar, propellant mass flow rate of 243.6 kg/s. Due to the limitation of the current firing test facility in Korea, the combustion tests were conducted to verify the operation and the combustion performance at low pressure condition (30 bar, 121.8 kg/s). All the tests had been successfully executed without the damage of the hardware. These test results can be used as fundamental data to predict the combustion performance at design point condition for 75 tonf thrust chamber.

  • This study explored students' online fashion studio class experiences, and investigated the factors affecting their class satisfaction. An online survey of college students who were enrolled in online studio classes within apparel and fashion-related departments during the spring of 2020 was conducted in June 2020. Responses from a total of 213 participants were included in the final data. Respondents rated lecture clips as the most useful, followed by teacher demonstration and feedback, PowerPoint (PPT) supplements, and Q&As. Frequently mentioned areas of improvement were online platform stability and video quality. Many respondents also stated that more streamlined teacher-student communication channels, immediate and meticulous teacher feedback, the adoption of course contents developed specifically for an online environment, and provisions for equipment usage would be desirable. Student satisfaction of an online fashion design studio class was significantly affected by teaching presence, social presence, online learning system stability, perceived usefulness of teacher's demonstration, and affective response toward COVID-19. Students satisfaction of an online garment construction studio class was significantly affected by teaching and social presence, online learning system stability, and perceived usefulness of teacher's demonstration. Based on these findings, we recommend developing teaching contents and methods that allow students to feel included in class and establish an online system with various functions to enhance the sense of social connection that can enable two-way communication.

  • The research and development of effective management technologies of the spent fuels discharged from power reactors are an important and essential task of KAERI. In resent several years KAERI has focused on a project named "development and demonstration of the Advanced spent fuel Conditioning Process (ACP) in a laboratory scale." The Facility for ACP demonstration consists of two Hot Cells and auxiliary facilities. It is now in the final design stage and will be constructed in 2004. After construction of the facility the ACP equipments will be installed in Hot Cells. The ACP will be demonstrated by some simulated spent fuels first and then by spent fuels.

  • Reliability demonstration tests (RDT's) are widely employed in design verification and process validation stages of industry. New mixed attribute-variable RDT plans that compromise demerits of the corresponding zero and zero or one failure plans which are common in practice are developed for the exponential distribution. The proposed mixed plans are compared with the typical RDT plans in terms of probability of acceptance and expected test termination time. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the mixed plans and a procedure to extend these plans to the Weibull distribution with known shape parameter is also presented.

  • In order to demonstrate a target reliability with a specified confidence level, a new two-stage Bayesian Reliability Demonstration Test (RDT) plans that is known to be more effective than a corresponding single-stage one is proposed and developed by Bayesian framework with beta prior distribution for Weibull life time distribution. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the proposed RDT plans and compared with other non-Bayesian and Bayesian plans. Comparative results show that the proposed Bayesian two-stage plans have some merits in terms of required and expected testing time and probability of acceptance.

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the difference between design and construction conditions based on theory for support (S) and infill (I) distinction and separation in long-life housing, and to search for future direction. To do this, the SI theory is summarized and the construction situation is examined in the demonstration house and the differences and limitations are analyzed. In order to realize SI separation in Korea, it is necessary to set the position of pipe shafts for sewage and drainage, buried in the structure and Ondol layer of the private pipes, buried various wires in the inner wall, and fixing the position of the inner wall.

  • Reliability demonstration tests with zero-failure acceptance criterion are most commonly used in the field of reliability application since they require fewer test samples and less test time compared to other test methods that guarantee the same reliability with a given confidence level. For products with lognormal lifetime distribution, an economic zero-failure test plan is developed that minimizes the total cost related to perform a life test to guarantee a specified reliability of a product with a given confidence level. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the use of the proposed test plan.
