Performance-based design concepts require the next generation of codes. To implement the main concepts several design methodologies have been proposed. This paper reviews the framework of Korea Seismic Code and shows necessary modification for adoption of appropriate design methods. The selection of design earthquake levels with the introduction of risk factor is discussed for proper risk levels for all earthquake hazards. Displacement-based design, energy-based design, comprehensive design, and force-strength design methods are reviewed as one of possible next generation design methods. This paper proposes the direction of reconstruction for design earthquake levels with performance matrix, introduction of new design methods, and emphasis on non- structural components.

The purpose of the present paper are not to develope machine tools of new concepts and advanced mechanisms but to introduce and apply new methods and concepts in the design procedure by using and changing the previously existing technologies. In this paper 3D modeller was proposed for designing machine tools and the design and the better manufacturability checking than 2D one so that design error was dramatically reduced. As designer may easily understand the real shape of a part and assembly object, it's easy to draw the drawings not only in a conceptual design but also in a detailed design. Also, design automation software enabled designer to consider the real important design parameters by reducing time to spend in estimating and calculating the strength of the model by the computer aided automatic calculation instead of a tedious and complex calculation by manual method and help him to easily make the decision for selecting the stocks and design the structure of part or unit of machine tools.

For the weight reduction of vehicle body up to 20∼30% compared to the conventional monocoque steel body·.in-white, most automotive manufacturers have attempted to develop the aluminum intensive body-in-white using an aluminum space frame. In this paper, the crush tests and simulations for the aluminum extrusions filled with the structural from are performed to evaluate the collapse characteristics of that light weighted material. From these studies. the effectiveness of structural for is evaluated in improving automotive crashworthiness. In order to improve the improve energy absorption capability of the aluminum space frame body, safety design modifications are performed and analyzed based on the suggested collapse initiator concepts and on the application of the aluminum extrusions filled with structural foam. The effectiveness of these design concepts on the frontal and side impact characteristics of the aluminum intensive vehicle structure is investigated and summarized.

As media technology has made rapid progress, cultures in the world have spread fast. In addition, Korea wave spreading toward the world is taking shape as a brand that represents essential Koreanness. Such tendency has led attempts to seek Koreanness in the field of space design. The desire to escape from the absence of humanity that is based on mechanistic nature view has led a variety of ideas and concepts on space. In particular, concept of phenomenological space centering on human body has been emphasized. Merleau-Ponty found concept of phenomenological space that emphasizes awareness through experience of human body. In this thesis, orientation as situation, temporality as body, depth as consciousness, and correlational orientation which are key concepts of Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology were covered. Such concepts were used in analyzing the characteristics of Buseoksa Temple to present essential Koreanness.

This paper described design as a purposeful human activity for solving its problems. This means, problem solving is finding a way to get from some initial situation to a desired goal.In order to do this, like a voyage, there should be a compass, and a route map to guide the designer through the design process. Evaluation gives information about the way a design is proceeding and suggests the direction in which change should be made in order that the complex of design concepts should be fulfilled in a satisfactory manner.I think Pugh's total design model discussing in this paper takes a layered approach through a series of sequential actions, part of which is to find the product status. Each layer has the $$\mu$ti-dimensional elements, Product Design Specification (PDS) around the design core. I made a comparative study of several evaluation tools wi th Pugh's model and examined the criteria for evaluation and the rating / weighing methods.It needs, however, more study in order that PDSs may have its values and be fixed from the dynamic design concepts.

Diverse and complicated trends of fashion design which were initiated at the latter part of the 20th century have been evolving in the cultural framework of Postmodernism. At this point of time, Poststructuralism, with its aims to interpret and understand modern fashion design, is a new system of thinking that reveals the contradictory aspects of rationalistic Western philosophy and accepts uncertainty and disorder as they exist. The main purpose of this study is to examine the various theoretic systems and characteristic concepts of Poststructuralism, and supply a new cognizance frame to understand the processes of fashion design with free and varied notions of deconstruction and generation, in place of the former systematic and consistent interpretation of meaning. Concerning fashion design, analysis of theories and analysis of contents. By probing and examining deconstruction theory, 'I'-other theory, textual theory, and nomadic thinking, the concepts of cognizance are classified into Nonboundariness, Otherness, and Textualism. The theoretic foundation for this analysis and classification is supplied by Derrida's deconstructional philosophy, Lacan's mental analysis, Bartes's textual theory, Deleuze's change and generation theory, together with other theories of Poststructuralism. In analysis of theories, a cognizance frame is proposed that can categorize the concepts, derived from various theories of Poststructuralism, as traits expressed in fashion design.

Poststructuralism gives us a clue to totally understand fashion design, which is in danger of difficulty and frivolous ambiguity caused by indiscreet creating and groundless interpretation of Postmodernism. In addition, it leads us to have a new viewpoint, which is freed from stereotyped past concepts and constraints, with regard to fashion design. The main purpose of this study is to examine the various theoretic systems and characteristic concepts of Poststructuralism, and supply a new cognizance frame to understand the processes of fashion design with free and varied notions of deconstruction and generation, in place of the former systematic and consistent interpretation of meaning. Concerning fashion design, present study employs a two-way research method: analysis of theories and analysis of contents. In analysis of theories, a cognizance frame is proposed that can categorize the concepts of cognizance are classified into Nonboundariness, Otherness, and Textualism, derived from various theories of Poststructuralism, as traits expressed in fashion design. In analysis of contents, 10 fashion designers are chosen who exhibit new works at every Pr$\hat{e}$t-$\acute{a}$-Porter collection. Including 20 works that those designers displayed at Pr$\hat{e}$t-$\acute{a}$-Porter from spring/summer 2001 through autumn/winter 2004-2005, a total of 200 works are analyzed.

XML is the new universal format for structured documents and data on the World Wide Web. As the Web becomes a major means of disseminating and sharing information and as the amount of XML data increases substantially, there are increased needs to manage and design such XML document in a novel yet efficient way. Moreover a demand of XML Schema(W3C XML Schema Spec.) that verifies XML document becomes increasing recently. However, XML Schema has a weak point for design because of its complication despite of various data and abundant expressiveness. Thus, it is difficult to design a complex document reflecting the usability, global and local facility and ability of expansion. This paper shows a simple way of modeling for XML document using a fundamental means for database design, the Entity-Relationship model. The design from the Entity-Relationship model to XML Schema can not be directly on account of discordance between the two models. So we present some algorithms to generate XML Schema from the Entity-Relationship model. The algorithms produce XML Schema codes using a hierarchical view representation. An important objective of this modeling is to preserve XML Schema's object-oriented concepts such as reusability, global and local ability. In addition to, implementation procedure and evaluation of the proposed design method are described.

The purpose of this study is to understand the required concept in the architectural competition for public library and its application in design process. The research is based on the 27 design guideline of architectural competition for public library from 2009 to 2013 and, as a case study, the project for the Chungcheongnam-do Provincial Library, the prize winner in 2014. Three required concepts; symbolism, function, and sustainability, are categorized through the analysis on the design guideline of 27 competitions and are identified. Symbolism is expressed by landmark forms based on the local characteristics. The function of public library means to provide services to everyone, regardless of age, race, gender, religion etc., as a local community. Sustainability is related to passive architecture for the maintenance and management of buildings. These three concepts for public library applied on the design process of Chungcheongnam-do Provincial Library and design elements in each process are categorized in three concepts. The results shows not only how closely the locality and a user are related, but also the changes in the appearance of a public library as time passed.

The root of cultural and artistic diversity of modern society goes hand in hand with the appearance of new art concepts that started during the social and cultural turmoil. These concepts crossed the boundaries of traditional and universal aesthetic concepts and value criteria. Since there is a close relationship between the fashion industry and the cultural flow of its times, the purpose of this study is to investigate the influences and applications of conceptual art, which became one of the big frameworks of contemporary art on fashion. The study thus sets out to develop and analyze the collections of Hussein Chalayan and Martin Margiela, who were fashion designers that pursued conceptual and ideal values, from the perspective of conceptual art. The goal was to examine the conceptual thoughts they sought after, and to understand their expressive determinations that they pursued conceptually as well as the superficial formativeness of their works. The characteristics according to the expressive methods and conceptual intentions of conceptual art that specified concepts and ideas were as follows: readymade symbolized objects, expanded intervention, data form from process of changing and implementation, and language as visual metaphors. Then those characteristics of conceptual art were used in this study to analyze the collections of Chalayan and Margiela. As a result, both designers applied and mixed many characteristics of the expressive methods of conceptual art. In modern society, art and fashion share a cultural identity and it can be said that it is an accurate reflection of the time. They are not separate genres. Just like the unique flow of modern society that creates new concepts through mixture and infusion of different disciplines, fashion is included in the domain of art. In addition, understanding and studying other disciplines can make a huge contribution to the growth and development of fashion.
