  • The pressure tube is a major component of the CANDU reactor, which supports nuclear fuel bundle and it's containment vessel. If a flaw is found during the periodic inspection from the pressure tube s. the integrity evaluation must be carried out. and the safety requirements must be satisfied for continued service. In order to complete the integrity evaluation, complicated and iterative calculation procedures are required. Besides, a lot of data and knowledge for the evaluation are required for the entire: integrity evaluation process. For this reason. an integrity evaluation system, which provides efficient of evaluation with the help of attached databases, was developed. The developed system was built on the basis of ASME Sec. XI and FFSG(Fitness For Service Guidelines for zirconium alloy pressure tubes in operating CANDU reactors) issued by the AECL, and covers the delayed hydride cracking(DHC). This system does not only provide various databases including the 3-D finite element analysis results on pressure tubes, inspection data and design specifications but also is compatible with other commercial database software. In order to verify the developed system, several case studies have been performed and the results were compared with those from AECL. A good agreement was observed between those two results.

  • A bellows is an important temperature control component in a Joule-Thomson micro-cryocooler. It is designed using a very thin shell, and the inside of the bellows is filled with nitrogen gas. The bellows is made of a nickel-cobalt alloy that maintains its strength and elastic properties in a wide range of temperatures from cryogenic to $300^{\circ}C$. The pressure of the gas and the volume within the bellows vary according to the temperature of the gas. As a result, the bellows contracts or expands in the axial direction like a spring. To explore this phenomenon, the deformation of the bellows and its internal volume must be calculated iteratively under a modified pressure until the state equation of the gas is satisfied at a given temperature. In this paper, the modified Benedict-Webb-Rubin state equation is adopted to describe the temperature-volume-pressure relations of the gas. Experiments were performed to validate the proposed method. The results of a numerical analysis and the experiments showed good agreement.

  • The interior vehicle noise due to the exterior aerodynamic field is an important topic in the acoustic design of a car. The air flow detached from the A-pillar and impacting the side windows are of particular interest as they are located close to the driver / passenger and provides a lower insulation index than the trimmed car body parts. This paper presents a numerical analysis method for a simplified vehicle model. The internal air cavity including trim component are included in the simulation. The car body includes the windshield and two side windows. The body is made of aluminum and trimmed with porous layers. The methodology proposed in this paper relies on two steps: the first step involves the computation of the exterior flow and turbulence induced non-linear acoustic field using PowerFlow. The second step consists in the computation of the vibro-acoustic transmission through the window using the finite element vibro-acoustic solver Actran. Additionally in order to validate the numerical process, an experimental set-up has been created based on the simplified vehicle. The vibration of the windshield and windows, the total wind noise level results and the relative contributions of the different windows are then presented and compared to measurements. The influence of the flow yaw angle (different wind orientation) is also assessed.

  • Whereas traditional user interface are well accepted modes of information exchange, the new digital conversion type's of information media is relatively complex and provides new means of transaction with user interface. User interface can be decomposed into two component: the physical structure through which information media is controlled, and the presentation of the content. This research explores the two user interface element have different effect on the adoption of information media and, as such, can influence perceived usefulness, perceived easy of use, and intention of use. The hypotheses have been tested with the survey of 148 end-users examines two interface characteristics factors such as efficiency, error, design, entertainment, accuracy, and vividness, and so on. The research summarized in this paper decomposes the influence of interface elements of physical structure interface and content presentation interface to gain a better understanding of how interface stimulates user's perceived usefulness to adopt the information media.

  • The researches of image recognition have been processed traditionally. Especially, face recognition technology has been received attractions with advance and applied to various areas according as camera sensor embedded into many devices such as smart phone. In this study, we design and develop a feature vector generation technique of face for making animation caricatures using methods for face detection which are previous stage of face recognition. At first, we detect both face region and detailed eye region of component element by Viola&Johns's realtime detection method which are called as ROI(Region Of Interest). And then, we generate feature vectors of eye region by utilizing factors as opposed to the periphery and by using appearance information of eye. At this point, we focus on the embedded information in many color spaces to overcome the problems which can be occurred by using one color space. We propose a feature vector generation method using information from many color spaces. Finally, we experiment the test of feature vector generation by the proposed method with enough quantity of sample picture data and evaluate the proposed method for factors of estimating performance such as error rate, accuracy and generation time.

  • In the design of a piled raft, the axial resistance is offered by the raft and group piles acting on the same supporting ground soils. As a consequence, pile - soil - raft and pile - soil interactions, occurring by stress and displacement duplication with pile and raft loading conditions, act as a key element changing resistances of the raft and group piles. In this study, a series of centrifuge model tests have been performed to compare the axial behavior of group pile and raft with that of a piled raft (having 16 component piles with an array of $4{\times}4$) in sands with different relative densities. The test results revealed that the increase of settlement resistance occurs separately with settlement by group pile - soil interactions. The axial resistance of group piles (at piled raft) increases by group pile - raft (pile cap) interactions and that of raft (at piled raft) decreases by group pile - raft (pile cap) interactions.

  • The magnetic sensor using electromagnetic principle. which transfers magnatic into electric. is the electric component. It has been widely applied to the industry, university and the reseach. However there are some problems. Not only the korean domestic sensor manufacture skills are still lower then the advanced manufacture's but also production of sensor is not well organized yet. Due to cahnging excitation cvurrent, excitation freq and the rate magnetic permeability core, there sometimes would be distorted phenomena or loaded phenomena which result in limited measurment range. Therefore, the signal conversion device should support to receive undistorted and nice output. This paper focuses on both the design of signal transform circuit using inductive proximity sensor and the signal transfer equipment (Z device) which detects thickness of painted material.

  • Usually, the AC loss from the superconducting element of an SFCL due to the load current is very small because it is composed of the combination of bifilar windings with very small reactance. Although the AC loss is small enough, we should be albe to predict for the design and control of the cryogenic system. In fact, an SFCL for the transmission voltage class may not generate ignorable AC loss because of the inevitable space between the HTS wires for the high voltage insulation and cryogenic efficiency. To measure the AC loss dependency on the space between the 2G HTS wires with the width of 4.4 mm, we prepared an experimental setup which could adjust the distance between the wires. We used two 500-mm length HTS wires in parallel and applied the current in the opposite direction for each wire to simulate a part of a current limiting module for a high voltage SFCL. We also put two couples of voltage taps at the ends of each wire and a cancel coil in the voltage measurement circuit to compensate the reactive component from the voltage taps. In this condition, we varied the distance between the wires to investigate the change of the transport current loss. A similar experimental study with HTS wire with the width of 12 mm is now in progress.

  • The LC-based digitally controlled oscillator (LC-DCO), a key component of the all digital phase locked loop (ADPLL), is designed using $0.18{\mu}m$ RFCMOS process with 1.8 V supply. The NMOS core with double cross-coupled pair is chosen to realize wide tuning range, and the PMOS varactor pair that has small capacitance of a few aF and the capacitive degeneration technique to shrink the capacitive element are adopted to obtain the high frequency resolution. Also, the noise filtering technique is used to improve phase noise performance. Measurement results show the center frequency of 2.7 GHz, the tuning range of 2.5 GHz and the high frequency resolution of 2.9 kHz ~7.1 kHz. Also the fine tuning range and the current consumption of the core could be controlled by using the array of PMOS transistors using current biasing. The current consumption is between 17 mA and 26 mA at 1.8V supply voltage. The proposed DCO could be used widely in various communication system.
