  • This paper considers the design of mixed $H_2/\;H_{\infty}$ controllers for linear time-invariant descriptor systems. Firstly, an $H_{\infty}$ and $H_2$ synthesis problem for a descriptor system are presented separately in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) based on the bounded real lemma. Then, the existence of a mixed $H_2/\;H_{\infty}$ controller by which the $H_2$ norm of the second channel is minimized while keeping the $H_{\infty}$ norm bound of the first channel less than ${\gamma}$, is reduced to the linear objective minimization problem. The class of desired controllers that are assumed to have the same structure as the plant is parameterized by using the linearizing change of variables. In addition, we show the procedure by which a obtained descriptor controller can be transformed to a non-descriptor one.

  • In this paper, we consider the design problem of delay-dependent robust $H{\infty}$ controller of discrete-time descriptor systems with parameter uncertainties and interval time-varying delays in state and control input by delay-dependent LMI (linear matrix inequality) technique. A new delay-dependent bounded real lemma for discrete-time descriptor systems with time-varying delays is derived. The condition for the existence of robust $H{\infty}$ controller and the robust $H{\infty}$ state feedback control law are proposed by LMI approach. A numerical example is demonstrated to show the validity of the design method.

  • This paper is concerned with H$_{\infty}$ controller design methods for descriptor systems with and without time-varying delays in state and control input. The sufficient condition for the existence of an H$_{\infty}$ controller and the controller design method are presented by linear matrix inequality (LMI), singular value decomposition, Schur complements, and changes of variables. Since the obtained sufficient condition can be changed to an LMI form by proper manipulations, all solutions including controller gain can be obtained at the same time. Moreover, it is shown that robust H$_{\infty}$ controller design problem for parameter uncertain descriptor systems with time-varying delays in state and control input can be solvable using the proposed method.

  • In this paper, we provide a reliable few controller design method for descriptor systems satisfying asymptotic stability with $H_\infty$ norm bound and all actuator failures occurred within the pre-specified subset. The proper condition for the existence of a reliable $H_\infty$ controller and the controller design method are proposed by linear matrix inequality(LMI), Schur complements, and singular value decomposition. All solutions can be obtained simultaneously because the presented sufficient condition can be expressed as an LMI form.

  • For linear descriptor systems, we consider the $H_{INFTY}$ controller design problem via output feedback. Both static output feedback and dynamic one are discussed. First, in the case of static output feedback, we reduce our control problem to solving a bilinear matrix inequality (BMI) with respect to the controller coefficient matrix, a Lyapunov matrix and a matrix related to the descriptor matrix. Under a matching condition between the descriptor matrix and the measured output matrix (or the control input matrix), we propose setting the Lyapunov matrix in the BMI as being block diagonal appropriately so that the BMI is reduced to LMIs. For fixed-order dynamic $H_{INFTY}$ output feedback, we formulate the control problem equivalently as the one of static output feedback design, and thus the same approach can be applied.

  • In this paper, we consider the robust non-fragile $H_{\infty}$ output feedback controller design method for uncertain descriptor systems with feedback and observer gain variations. The existence condition of observer-based robust and non-fragile $H_{\infty}$ output feedback controller and the controller design method are Presented on the basis of linear matrix inequality approach. The proposed robust non-fragile $H_{\infty}$ output feedback controller guarantees asymptotic stability, non-fragility, $H_{\infty}$ norm bound within a prescribed level in spite of disturbance, parameter uncertainty, and feedback/observer gain variations.

  • The paper is concerned with $H_{\infty}$ filtering for descriptor systems. A necessary and sufficient condition is established in terms of linear matrix inequalities(LMIs) for the existence of normal filters such that the error systems are admissible and the transfer function from the disturbance to the filtering error output satisfies a prescribed $H_{\infty}$-norm bound constraint. When these LMIs are feasible, an explicit parameterization expression of all desired normal filter is given. All these results are yielded without decomposing the original descriptor systems, which makes the filter design procedure simple and direct. Finally, a numerical example is derived to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed approach.

  • The descriptor system model has a high ability in representing dynamical systems. It can preserve physical parameters in the coefficient matrices, and describe the dynamic part, static part, and even the improper part of the system in the same form. The design of mixed $H_{2}/H_{\infty}$ controllers for linear time-invariant descriptor systems is considered in this paper. Firstly, an $H_2$ and $H_{\infty}$ synthesis problems fur a descriptor system are presented separately in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) based on the bounded real lemma. Then, we show that the existence of a mixed $H_2/H_{\infty}$ controller by which the $H_2$ norm of the second channel is minimized while keeping the $H_2$ norm bound of the first channel less than ${\gamma}$, is reduced to the linear objective minimization problem. The class of desired controllers that are assumed to have the same structure as the plant is parameterized by using the linearizing change of variables.

  • This paper examines the problem of designing an $H_{\infty}$ fuzzy state-feedback controller for a class of uncertain nonlinear descriptor systems which is described by a Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy model. Based on a linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach, we develop an $H_{\infty}$ state-feedback controller which guarantees the $L_2$-gain of the mapping from the exogenous input noise to the regulated output to be less than some prescribed value for this class of systems. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the design developed in this paper.

  • This paper proposes a new approach to solve robust $H{\infty}$ control problems for uncertain continuous-time descriptor systems. Necessary and sufficient conditions for robust $H{\infty}$ control analysis and design are derived and expressed in terms of a set of LMIs. In the proposed approach, the uncertainties are allowed to appear in all system matrices. Furthermore, a couple of assumptions that are required in earlier design methods are not needed anymore in the present one. The derived conditions also include several interesting results existing in the literature as special cases.
