Nowadays, the construction of tunnels with a shallow depth drastically in urban areas increases. But the effect of sidewall displacement in shallow tunnel on its behavior is not well known yet. Most studies on the shallow tunnel have been limited to the stability and the failure of the tunnel and the adjacent ground in plane strain state. Therefore, the model tests were conducted in a model ground which was built with carbon rods, in order to investigate the impact of the tunnel sidewall displacement on the lateral load transfer to the adjacent ground. The lateral displacement of the tunnel sidewall and the load transfered to the adjacent ground were measured in model tests for various overburdens (0.50D, 0.75D, 1.00D, 1.25D). As results, if the cover depth of tunnel was over a constant depth (0.75D) in a shallow tunnel, the tunnel sidewall was failed with a constant shape not depending on the tunnel cover depth and also not affected by the opposite side of the wall. But, if the cover depth of tunnel was under a constant depth (0.75D), the failure of the tunnel sidewall could affect the opposite sidewall. In addition, if the displacement of tunnel sidewall with 50% of the critical displacement occurred, the tunnel failure was found to be at least 75%. However, additional studies are deemed necessary, since they may differ depending on the ground conditions.

Service life evaluation for RC Structures exposed to chloride attack is very important, however the previous two methods(deterministic and probabilistic method) show a big difference. The paper presents a service life simulation using deterministic and probabilistic method with time-dependent diffusion coefficient. Three different cases are considered for diffusion coefficient, concrete cover depth, and surface chloride content respectively, and then the PDF(probability of durability failure) and the related service life are obtained. Through adopting time-dependent diffusion, the discrepancy between the two methods can be reduced, which yields reasonable service life. When diffusion coefficient increases from $2.5{\times}10^{-12}m^2/sec$ to $7.5{\times}10^{-12}m^2/sec$, the service life decreases to 25.5~35.6% level, and cover depth does from 75 mm to 125 mm, it increases to 267~311% level as well. In the case of surface chloride content from $5.0kg/m^3$ to $15.0kg/m^3$, it changes to 40.9~54.5%. The effect of cover depth is higher than the others by 8~10 times and also implies it is a key parameter to service life extension.
Several techniques for steel corrosion detection are proposed and HCP (half cell potential) technique is widely adopted for field investigation. If concrete has cracks on surface, steel corrosion is rapidly accelerated due to additional intrusion of chloride and carbon dioxide ions. This study is for an evaluation of HCP in cracked concrete exposed chloride attack. For this work, RC (reinforced concrete) beams are prepared considering 3 w/c ratios (0.35, 0.55, and 0.70) and several cover depths (10~60 mm) and various crack widths of 0.0~1.0 mm are induced. For 35 days, SST (salt spraying test) is performed for corrosion acceleration, and HCP and corrosion length of rebar are evaluated. With increasing crack width, w/c ratios, and decreasing cover depth, HCP measurements increase. HCP evaluation technique is proposed considering the effects of w/c ratios, crack width, and cover depth. Furthermore anti-corrosive cover depths are obtained through Life365 program and the results are compared with those from this study. The results shows relatively big difference in cracked concrete, however provide similar anti-corrosive conditions in sound concrete.
BACKGROUND: Cultivation of winter cover crops is strongly recommended to increase land utilization efficiency, animal feeding material self-production, and to improve soil and environmental quality. METHODS AND RESULTS: Four major winter crops (barley, Chinese milk vetch, hairy vetch, and rye) having different C/N ratio were seeded in silt loam paddy soil in the November 2007 and the aboveground biomass was harvested on the late May 2008 to evaluate its effectiveness as green manure, and root biomass distribution was characterized at the different depth (0-60 cm) to study its effect on physical properties and carbon sequestration in soil. During this experiment, the naturally growing weed in the rice paddy soil in Korea, short awn foxtail (Alopecurus aequalis Sobol), was considered as control treatment. Above-ground biomass of all cover crops selected was significantly higher than that of the control treatment (2.8 Mg/ha). Comparatively higher above-ground biomass productivity of rye and barley (15.8 and 13.5 Mg/ha, respectively) suggested that these cover crops possibly had the highest potential as a green manure and animal feeding material. Root biomass production of different cover crops followed the same trend as that for their above ground biomass. Rye (Secale cereal) might have the highest potential for soil C accumulation (7893 C kg/ha) by root biomass development, and then followed by barley (6985 C kg/ha), hairy vetch (6467 C kg/ha), Chinese milk vetch (6671 C kg/ha), and control (5791 C kg/ha). CONCLUSION(s): Cover crops like rye and barley having high biomass productivity might be the most effective winter cover crops to increase organic carbon distribution in different soil aggregates which might be beneficial to improve soil structure, aeration etc. and C sequestration.

The variance characteristics of the calcium carbonate contents along to the concrete cover depth takes the prediction method of remaining service life of concrete. Calcium carbonate contents were measured by the Thermo Gravimetric/Differential Thermal Analysis method at three point, depth of 0.25cm, 0.75cm, 1.25cm from the surface of concrete. This prediction method contain some assumption that the chemical protection conferred on steel is through a passive protective oxide film which forms on steel in an environment at or above a pH of 10.5$^{4)}$ .
Wind load or snow load, acting on agricultural structures is working more sensitive than any other load and therefore plays an important role in determination of design loads of agricultural structures. In this study, unit snow weight, greatest gust speed and depth of snow fall were analyzed and applied to determine the amount of frames. The unit snow weights were statistically classified and calculated in the basis of mean temperature and showed considerable differences between the unit snow weights at below and above -1$^{\circ}C$. Equations for estimating greatest gust speed with fastest wind speed were developed for inland and seaside districts. The calculated values from developed equations were little higher than those from the current equation in general. The difference between the depths of snow cover and snow fall, which shows the possibility of reduction of design loads under the adequate management. Design wind speed estimated by a modified equation suggested the amount of frames less than those by current one, and the depth of snow fall as a design snow depth suggested the amount of frames more than those of snow cover. Therefore, it is very important to select the adequate design values considering the characteristics of agricultural structures.
This paper aimed at the development of face covers which is face protection articles for blocking UV rays and yellow sands, with a view to assist the further activation of outdoor life. The four-stage design process of field study, design, design evaluation, final selection of designs was set up for the effective product development. Field study included on-line and off-line market survey on the products for sale in market and observation on those wearing face covers. Depth interviews were done to know consumer understandings and satisfaction levels for current face covers. The results of market survey showed that most of the face covers currently in the market were mask types, which were produced for the blocking of dust and yellow sands rather than UV ray protection. The major clients of the mask were the women in their 30's-50's and the designs for these clients were very limited. Since the number of younger women and men enjoy the outdoor sports has increased, the face covers for these people should be developed. For this purpose, the direction of new face cover design had 2 points: diversification of design in terms of color, material, shape and giving seasonal differences. 12 designs were designed on the first design stage, but after both wearing test by 16 testees and UV ray blocking test to evaluate these designs, 6 face cover designs were finally selected.
Let G be a graph on the vertex set $V(G)=\{x_1,{\cdots},x_n\}$ with the edge set E(G), and let $R=K[x_1,{\cdots},x_n]$ be the polynomial ring over a field K. Two monomial ideals are associated to G, the edge ideal I(G) generated by all monomials $x_i,x_j$ with $\{x_i,x_j\}{\in}E(G)$, and the vertex cover ideal $I_G$ generated by monomials ${\prod}_{x_i{\in}C}{^{x_i}}$ for all minimal vertex covers C of G. A minimal vertex cover of G is a subset $C{\subset}V(G)$ such that each edge has at least one vertex in C and no proper subset of C has the same property. Indeed, the vertex cover ideal of G is the Alexander dual of the edge ideal of G. In this paper, for an unmixed bipartite graph G we consider the lattice of vertex covers $L_G$ and we explicitly describe the minimal free resolution of the ideal associated to $L_G$ which is exactly the vertex cover ideal of G. Then we compute depth, projective dimension, regularity and extremal Betti numbers of R/I(G) in terms of the associated lattice.
Concrete structures in marine environment are susceptible to chloride attack, where chloride diffusion results in the corrosion of steel bar and further lead to the cracking of concrete cover. This process causes structural deterioration and affects the response of concrete structures to different forms of loading. This paper presents the use of ABAQUS Finite Element Software in simulating the processes involved in concrete's structural degradation from chloride diffusion to steel corrosion and concrete cover cracking. Fick's law was used for the chloride diffusion, while the mass loss from steel corrosion was obtained using Faraday's law. Pressure generated by steel corrosion product at the concrete-steel interface was modeled by applying uniform radial displacements, while concrete smeared cracking alongside the Extended Finite Element Method (XFEM) was used for concrete cover cracking simulation. Results show that, chloride concentration decreases with penetration depth, but increases with exposure time at the concrete-steel interface. Cracks initiate and propagate in the concrete cover as pressure caused by the steel corrosion product increases. Furthermore, the crack width increases with the exposure time on the surface of the concrete.
Currently, the mobile device is required to be miniaturized and lightweight according to the needs of the consumer. For this purpose, each part is produced and assembled in units of modules. Accordingly, the display part is also composed of a cover glass, a touch screen, And it costs a large amount to replace the whole when it is damaged. Therefore, we propose a method to improve the durability of display part using ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) and MR fluid polishing. Before MR fluid polishing process, surface treatment was performed to obtain a polishable surface. A series of experiments were carried out to very fine surface roughness and to secure durability of cover glass. Polishing depth, feed rate, and abrasive size were selected to examine the MR fluid polishing results.
