  • Remote sensing data is used to increasing efficiency on benthic cover type survey. Satellite and aerial imagery has variance of reflectance by water column effect even if bottom is consisted with same cover type and condition. This study tried to analyze advances of surveying extent and accuracy through water column correction of CASI-1500 hyperspectral image. Study area is coast of Gangneung city, South Korea where benthic environment is rapidly changing with bleaching of coral reef. Water column correction coefficient was estimated using regression models between water reflectance ($R_W$) and depth for sand bottom then the coefficients were applied to whole image. The results shows that expanded interpretable depth from 6-7m to 15m and decreased variation of reflectance by depth. Additionally, water column corrected reflectance image shows 13%p increased accuracy on benthic cover type classification.

  • The corrosion potential in concrete varies greatly with exposure and concrete mix conditions. In this study, RC (Reinforcement Concrete) samples were prepared considering cover depth, chloride concentration, and W/C(water to cement) ratio as variables, and HCP(Half Cell Potential) was measured, which evaluated comparative potential between embedded steel and concrete surface. In addition, OCP(Open Circuit Potential) was measured using buried steel and CE(Counter Electrode). Agar and NaOH solution were used as ion exchange materials and Hg/HgO was used for RE(Reference Electrode), which was more sensitive to temperature than HCP. Among the influencing factors, the exposure period and chloride concentration had a relatively greater effect than cover depth and w/c ratio. Additionally, the entire measured HCP and OCP showed a clearly linear relationship with increasing cover depth and w/c ratio. Through multiple regression analysis, the relationship between HCP and OCP was quantified, and an improved correlation was obtained with temperature effect.

  • In this study, the transfer length of 2400 MPa, seven-wire high-strength steel strands with a 15.2 mm diameter in pretensioned prestressed concrete (PSC) beams utilizing high strength concrete over 58 MPa at prestress release was evaluated experimentally. 32 specimens, which have the variables of concrete compressive strength, concrete cover depth, and the number of PS strands, were fabricated and corresponding transfer lengths were measured. The strands were released gradually by slowly reducing the pressure in the hydraulic stressing rams. The measured results of transfer length showed that the transfer length decreased as the concrete compressive strength and concrete cover depth increased. The number of strands had a very small effect, and the effect varied with both the concrete cover depth and concrete strength. The results were compared to current design codes and transfer lengths predicted by other researchers. The comparison results showed that the current transfer length prediction models in design codes may be conservatively used for 2400 MPa high-strength strands in high-strength concrete beams exceeding 58 MPa at prestress release.

  • The steel fiber reinforced concrete may affect substantially to the tension stiffening at post cracking behavior. Even if several tension stiffening models exist, they are for plain and normal strength concrete. Thus, the development of tension stiffening models for steel fibrous high strength RC members are necessary at this time when steel fiber reinforced and high strength concretes are common in use. This paper presents tension stiffening effects from experimental results on direct tension members with the main variables such as concrete strength, concrete cover depth, steel fiber quantity and aspect ratio. The comparison of existing models against experimental results indicated that linear reduced model closely estimated the test results at normal strength level but overestimated at high strength level. Discontinuity stress reduced model underestimated at both strength levels. These existing models were not valid enough in applying at steel fibrous high strength concrete because they couldn't consider the concrete strength nor section area. Thus, new tension stiffening models for high strength and steel fiber reinforced concrete were proposed from the analysis of experimental results, considering concrete strength, rebar diameter, concrete cover depth, and steel fiber reinforcement.

  • In this study, field survey of carbonation for RC column in city is carried out and carbonation behavior in sound, joint, and cracked concrete is also analyzed. Futhermore, probability of durability failure with time is calculated through considering probability variables such as concrete cover depth and carbonation depth which are obtained from field survey. The probability of durability failure in cracked concrete with considering crack width and time is also calculated and service life is predicted based on intended failure probability in domestic specification. Through this study, it is known that service life in a RC column is evaluated differently for local conditions and each service life is rapidly decreased with decrease in cover depth and increase in crack width.

  • Generally, steel corrosion occurs in concrete structures due to carbonation in down-town area and underground site and it propagates to degradation of structural performance. In general diagnosis and inspection, only carbonation depth in sound concrete is evaluated but unsound concrete such as joint and cracked area may occur easily in a concrete member due to construction process. In this study, field survey of carbonation for RC columns in down-town area is performed and carbonation depth in joint and cracked concrete including sound area is measured. Probability of durable failure with time is calculated through probability variables such as concrete cover depth and carbonation depth which are obtained from field survey. In addition, service life of the structures is predicted based on the intended probability of durable failure in domestic concrete specification. It is evaluated that in a RC column, various service life is predicted due to local condition and it is rapidly decreased with insufficient cover depth and growth of crack width. It is also evaluated that obtaining cover depth and quality of concrete is very important because the probability of durable failure is closely related with C.O.V. of cover depth.

  • Land cover classification is an essential basic information in natural environment management; however, land cover classification studies in Korea have not yet been proceeded to a sufficient level. At the present, only a limited number of the precedent studies that only cover definite city area has been conducted. Furthermore, there is almost no research conducted on the land cover classification schemes that could accurately classify the Korea's land cover conditions. This study primarily focuses on the land cover classification scheme which carries the most urgent priority in order to classify and to map out the Korean land cover conditions. In order to develop the most suitable land cover classification scheme, many foreign land cover classification cases and projects that are being carried out were reviewed in depth. The land cover classification scheme this study proposes comprises 3 levels : The first level consists of 7 different classes; the second level consists of 22 different classes; and the third level is made up of 50 classes. The land cover classification map will serve many important roles in natural environment management, such as the conjecture of natural habitats and estimation of oxygen production or carbon dioxide absorption capability of a forest. In water pollution modelling, the land cover classification data can be used to estimate and locate non-point sources of water pollution. If applied to a watershed, modelling it will allow to estimate the total amount of pollution from non-point sources of pollution in the water shed. The land cover classification data will also be good as a barometer data that determines defusion of air pollutants in air pollution modelling.

  • This research is aimed at investigating the dynamic response of cut-and-cover tunnel to seismic waves. We carried out shaking table test which is used a 1/40-scale(the width of prototype tunnel is about 14.2m, the height is about 8.5m) model for this research, and we analyzed the effect of depth of tunnel and slope of the ground in relation to the dynamic responses of tunnel. As a result of the test, the stress and acceleration along the tunnel decreased accordingly to the depth of increment, and this phenomenon is caused by the increase of the confining effect of ground. Also, the dynamic responses of tunnel showed a tendency to rise according as ground declined gently. In comparison the result of shaking table test with that of structural analysis on ordinary condition, we conclude that seismic waves do not affect cut-and-cover tunnel when the depth of tunnel is over the diameter of tunnel.

  • This study suggests a rebar detection technique for simultaneous detection of size and cover of embedded reinforcement in concrete. The structure of the probe made in this study is somewhat different from commercial ones. This probe has three sensing coils. Rebar size and cover depth can be evaluated by detecting and analyzing the signal from them. Amplitude and phase variation of each coil in the probe was investigated using an impedance analyzer and the loci of transfer functions of the coils were analyzed. The locus of transfer function from the sensing coil positioned inside excitation coil was simple as well known, but the others from the coils outside excitation coil were not so. Actual experiment on rebar detection was performed with our probe and an eddy current test system for various rebar sizes and depths. The signal shape according to variation of cover depths showed the same tendency with the transfer function loci acquired by impedance analyzer. The different variation pattern of signal enabled to evaluate rebar size and cover depth simultaneously.

  • Probing inside of concrete structures is one of the important steps in assessing condition of the structure. For the assessment, electromagnetic induction method and electromagnetic wave method are currently applied to the measurement of cover depth, and the detection of reinforcement embedded in concrete. To determine detection capability of locating reinforcement embedded in concrete, commercially available nondestructive testing (NDT) equipments have been tested. The equipments include electromagnetic wave system and electromagnetic induction system. In the tests, nine concrete specimens which have the dimensions of 1,000mm(length))${\times}$300mm(width) with thickness varying from 125mm to 150mm are used. The reinforcement are located at 45, 60, 100mm depth from the concrete surface. Horizontal reinforcement spacing has been set over 100mm. From the outcome, it is shown that error is increased as the diameter of reinforcement enlarge in case of using electromagnetic induction method. In case of using electromagnetic wave method, the detection of reinforcement embedded in deep is good in the view of reliability because of using the relative permittivity on the real cover depth.
