Purpose : This study was carried out from September 2011 to September 2012 to indicate improvement and performance schemes and planning strategies by way of scenario based practical examination to inspire adaptable capacity to EMS field for Emergency Medical Technician. Methods : In order to improve the examination, a survey was conducted to EMT-Paramedics (Level 1), EMT-Basics (Level 2), and other expert groups. The researchers visited the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) headquarter and the psychomotor examination site in Ohio in April, 2011. The 21 EMT professors took part in a workshop experiencing the US psychomotor examinations provided by two NREMT examination experts in October, 2011. Results : The results showed that the general plan of new National Practical Examination for EMTs should consist of integrated emergency care examination based on clinical performance and simple skill examination based on objective structured skill protocol Conclusion : The National Practice Examination consists of two sessions and the examinees select the test number randomly in each session. The future examination should include the critical criteria and this criteria should be the decisive factor for the pass or fail.
Purpose: This study aims to provide suggestions for improving the liberal arts curriculum for the 3-year emergency medical technology course by conducting a comparative research on the liberal arts curricula across 10 colleges. Methods: Various aspects of liberal arts subjects, such as basic directions set out by the curriculum, credit scores, and distribution, were studied. Results: Of the 10 colleges, 9 did not stated purpose of liberal arts education. All 10 offered courses including foreign language, computer, and self-management, however each subjects did not have reflections of course visions. Findings revealed the credit score ratio of liberal arts subjects to be relatively lower than the major subjects. Students had limited opportunity to choose liberal arts subjects, with only a small proportion of the course available for elective subjects. Most liberal arts subjects were completed in the first year. Subjects' experience was not expanded and deepened gradually. Subject choices often overlapped, with limited variety of available subjects. Conclusion: For competent emergency medical technicians, the 3-year emergency medical technology course should improve the quality of its liberal arts offerings. The study of liberal arts provides the opportunity to develop broad perspectives and mature attitudes.
Purpose: Although appointed as a national competency standards (NCS) based reserves department, the department of emergency medical technology, an NCS-based emergency department, is mainly focused on subject deduction for a NCS-based curriculum. Methods: Job models were formed and verified by combining the competency unit of NCS and the duty of Developing a curriculum (DACUM) based on the development procedure indicated in the guidelines for a NCS-based curriculum. The mapping method of the subject was performed by deducting necessary competency units (duty) and competency unit elements (task) by connecting with the composition items of NCS and DACUM. Results: Job models combined with job analysis for the NCS and DACUM were reduced to 13 competency units (duty) and 79 competency unit elements (task). A modified method such as the 1:N method was mainly applied as a subject-matching method with consideration of the competency level and size of the competency unit. Conclusion: It would be a desirable direction to develop a NCS-based curriculum in the center of the practice subject in consideration of the size of the competency unit and competency level of the competency unit element. The existing curriculum should be promoted as a field-oriented curriculum at the complementary level.
Purpose: The study investigated the effects of self-directed learning, learning flow, and academic self-efficacy variables on academic achievement. Methods: This is a descriptive correlation study to understand the effects of self-directed learning, learning flow, and academic self-efficacy on academic achievement. Results: There is a significant positive correlation between the participants' self-directed learning, learning flow, academic achievement, and academic self-efficacy. Self-directed learning and learning flow influenced academic achievement, while academic self-efficacy was found to have a partial mediating effect. As indicated above, academic self-efficacy and self-directed learning were significant predictors of academic achievement. Conclusion: The study results can be used as basic data to conduct future studies. Furthermore, results can inform the development of educational programs that enhance self-directed learning, learning flow, and academic self-efficacy to improve students' academic achievement in the department of emergency technology.
Purpose: This study validated the influential relations between the effects of emergency care quality, credibility of 119 emergency medical technicians (119 EMTs), and perceived usefulness and attitude of emergency care, focusing on the moderating effect of protectors' characteristics (education, experience, age, and recognition of patient severity). Methods: This study was based on elaboration likelihood and technology acceptance models. In total, 172 protectors with experience in utilizing prehospital service were surveyed from April 1 to July 31, 2011. Results: The results showed that the emergency care quality and the credibility of 119 EMTs were the main determinants of the perceived usefulness and attitude of emergency care, irrespective of the protector's characteristics (p <.001). In addition, the findings showed that the protector's intention of emergency care had a moderating role. The impact of the quality of emergency care on its perceived usefulness was greater for high-level protectors (p <.001). By contrast, the impact of the credibility of 119 EMTs on the perceived usefulness of emergency care was greater for low-level protectors (p <.001). Conclusion: The protectors' characteristics have different influences on the relations between the effects of emergency care quality, the 119 EMT credibility, and the perceived usefulness and attitude of emergency care.
Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the research trends of the articles published in the Korean Journal of Emergency Medical Services in the past 10 years. Methods: A total of 236 articles published between 2009 and 2018 were analyzed. For analysis of the collected data, frequencies and percentages were calculated using SPSS 23 (IBM, Armonk, NY, USA). Results: Most of the articles (47.9%, 113) were authored by 2 researchers, and most first authors were affiliated with university (81.4%, 192). Most of the articles were presented with 3 key words (34.3%, 81), and the most studied subjects of emergency medical technology was clinical researches (26.7%, 63). The majority of the research was performed quantitatively (99.6%, 235) and retrospectively (72.5%, 171), and research design was the most surveyed (68.2%, 161). For the majority of articles, the size of the sample was less than 100 (35.6%, 84), and the study participants were students (38.1%, 91). Only 12.7% (40) of the articles were reviewed by institutional review boards. Conclusion: In future studies on emergency medical technology, active participation of field emergency workers is needed. In addition, qualitative and prospective studies should be conducted on various types of research subjects.

Purpose: This study was conducted as a direct investigation of the data in the dispatch logbooks and status of patient transportation provided by private emergency transport companies in Busan. Methods: This study was conducted using SPSS 23.0 version for a total of 1,000 processed records of private emergency ambulance services in Busan from September 23, 2017 to November 5, 2019. Results: First, 100% of the emergency patient transfers by private emergency ambulances were carried out between medical institutions; 76.4% of all transfer patients had emergency conditions, and 86.0% had serious diseases. Second, 59.3% of the emergency patients were located at distances less than 10 km and 43.2%, at more than 10 km from the medical institutions. Third, 63.5% of the passengers were accompanied by first-class emergency rescuers according to the severity of the condition. Fourth, 92.7% of the reasons for the selection of medical institutions were transferred to places where professional care was available, accounting for most of the reasons for the selection. Finally, the medical institutions were selected according to the severity of the patient's condition; 76.5% patients were transported to institutions with a large number of doctors, and 42.9% of those were transported to specialized care institutions. Conclusion: This study collected data from 1,000 dispatch records of private emergency transport companies in Busan; these records reflect the government's policies to improve the emergency patient transfer system. The current status of emergency patient transfer offered by private transport companies was analyzed. All of the emergency patient transfers were carried out between medical institutions, and 76% of the transferred patients had emergency conditions.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of CPR skills and the satisfaction of CPR Training targeted for college students. Also, this study made comparative study of nursing students and non-nursing students. The sample consisted of 248 students(132 nursing students, 116 non-nursing students). CPR Training was designed by two components which were a lecture and demonstration by one professor and individual practice by instructors. As tool of measurement estimation satisfaction of CPR Training questionnaires were developed based on educated contents. The accuracy of CPR skills were checked by SkillReporter CPR training manikin. Collected data were computerized and analyzed by SPSS-WIN program. The results were as follows : 1. The skills of CPR were cardiac compression 92.79 times/min, correct cardiac compression rate 90.85%, ventilation 9.93 times/min, correct ventilation rate 79.34%. 2. The mean of the accuracy of CPR skills were 2.94(SD .87). 3. When errors were analyzed, the highest item was stomach distension(51.2%) of ventilation skills and too little(70.6%) of cardiac compression skills. 4. The mean of the satisfaction of CPR training were 2.87(SD .17), the highest item of the satisfaction of CPR Training was practice. 5. We found significant statistical differences based on the accuracy and the error, non-nursing students were high in correct cardiac compression per minute(t=3.615, p=.000) and ventilation too much(t=4.292, p=.000), nursing students were high in correct ventilation rate(t=-3.885, p=.000) and cardiac compression too shallow) t=-2.842, p=.005).
Purpose: This study aimed to identify research topics in the emergency medical technician (EMT) field and examine research trends. Methods: In this study, 261 research papers published between January 2000 and May 2022 were collected, and EMT research topics and trends were analyzed using topic modeling techniques. This study used a text mining technique and was conducted using data collection flow, keyword preprocessing, and analysis. Keyword preprocessing and data analysis were done with the RStudio Version 4.0.0 program. Results: Keywords were derived through topic modeling analysis, and eight topics were ultimately identified: patient treatment, various roles, the performance of duties, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, triage systems, job stress, disaster management, and education programs. Conclusion: Based on the research results, it is believed that a study on the development and application of education programs that can successfully increase the emergency care capabilities of EMTs is needed.
Purpose: The 2018 General survey of emergency assistance was conducted to examine the working conditions and welfare, including educational direction, interests, and awareness of work, of the fire department emergency medical technicians (EMT). This would be used as basic data for future policy directions. Methods: Among the fire-fighting officers in 16 cities nationwide, emergency rescue workers engaged in first-aid activities were targeted. With prior consent, a survey was conducted through electronic documents. Of the total 1,227 people, responses from 1,151 were finally analyzed, excluding 76 who did not respond appropriately. Results: The working conditions and welfare of 119 firefighters were moderate, but in the fields of education and interest, the learning according to the regulations was high. In particular, satisfaction with the scope of work was found to be below average. However, it was positive that it will play a role as a social safety net in the future and will converge with cutting-edge science. Conclusion: Although this study was a total investigation of the EMT survey, conducting an EMT survey on all fire fighters in Korea is difficult. Further research is needed, particularly on first-class emergency medical personnel who play a major role in 119 paramedics.
