  • Objectives : In this study, contact angle and shore D hardness were measured, and a shark fin test was conducted after selecting five addition silicon(Blu-Mousse, BM; EXABITE II, EX; PERFECT, PF; Regisil$^{(R)}$ Rigid, RE; Silagum$^{(R)}$, SI) in order to figure out the properties of elastomeric interocclusal recording materials and reduce errors at interocclusal recording. 8) Methods : A contact angle was measured using a contact angle analyzer. After placing a drop of liquid on the surface of the specimens of interocclusal recording materials, a contact angle was photographed with a CCD camera on the equipment. In terms of a shark fin test, interocclusal recording materials were mixed for the time proposed by the manufacturer and inserted into the split ring of the Shark fin device. Twenty (20) seconds exactly, a metal rod was removed to make the materials slowly absorbed. Once they hardened, fin height was measured with a caliper after separating molds and trimming the specimens. The shore D hardness was measured with a shore D hardness tester(Model HPDSD, Hans Schmidt & Co. Gmbh, Germany) in sixty (60) minutes after fabricating specimens. In each experiment, five specimens, mean and standard deviation were calculated. A one-way ANOVA test was performed at the p>0.05 level of significance. In terms of correlation among the tests, Pearson correlation coefficient was estimated. For multiple comparison, Scheffe's test was carried out. Results : A contact angle was the highest in EX with $99.23^{\circ}$ (p<0.05) while the result of the shark fin test was the longest in RE with 5.45mm. SI was the lowest (0.27mm) with statistical significance. Among the interocclusal recording materials, significant difference was observed in terms of means (p<0.05). The shore D hardness was the highest in SI with 31.0 while RE was significantly low with 16.4 (p<0.05). Among the materials, statistically significant difference was observed in terms of means when compared to the rest materials (RE), BM, RE and SI (PF and EX) and the remaining materials (BM and SI) (p<0.05). In terms of correlations among the tests, a negative correlation occurred between shore D hardness and shark fin test(r=-0.823, p=0.000). Conclusions : According to the study above, it is necessary to understand the properties of interocclusal recording materials and consider contact angle, shark fin test and properties of shore D hardness to select appropriate materials.

  • This study examined the involvement of histamine in heat-induced changes in pulpal blood flow(PBF) to determine the mechanism of neurogenic inflammation in feline dental pulp. The experiments were carried out in 10 felines anesthetized with sodium pentobartial and histamine injected into the dental pulp through the external carotid artery. The change in the pulpal PBF was measured using a laser Doppler flowmeter(Periflux 4001, Stockholm, Sweden). The probe of laser Doppler flowmeter was placed on the buccal surface of the ipsilateral canine teeth. Heat was applied to the tooth using a heat stimulator controlled script file with an input/output device. The application of heat ($40-65^{\circ}C$) induced a significant increase in PBF. The application of histamine($5{\mu}g/kg/1ml$) followed by heat($45^{\circ}C$) resulted in an increase in PBF. Therefore, the results of the present study showed that heat and histamine are capable of vasoconstriction caused by neurogenic inflammation in feline dental pulp. In addition, neurogenic inflammation plays an active role in modulating the microcirculation of the dental pulp.

  • This study was conducted in 241 fire officers at fire stations in Daejeon Metropolitan City to determine their oral health care behavior status and obtained the following results: First, men were more likely to brush their teeth 3 times a day and women were more likely to brush their teeth 4 times a day; those who were in their twenties and had ${\leq}5$ years of career brushed their teeth for ${\geq}3$ minutes. Second, the respondents who were in their twenties and thirties and had <10 years of career were more likely to use auxiliary oral hygiene devices and fire captains and those at higher positions were more likely to have received oral health education. Third, the respondents having received oral health education were more likely to use auxiliary oral hygiene devices and to have their teeth scaling within a year. While the fire officers were fortunately at good levels of oral health care, taking the poor working environment into account, the efforts to develop job-customized oral health programs in which IT and robot technologies are combined to improve oral health and take measures to publicize the programs and to give better treatment to fire officers are expected to put them in better oral health care status.

  • During the medical ultrasound exercise at school, we randomly select parts of the ultrasound device and areas with the most contact in the abdominal phantom to detect bacteria that are above the probe and determine the number of pathogens. I want to find out. The experimental method was rubbed 20 times with the sterilized cotton swab for sterilization and then smeared on Lysogeny broth (LB) agar, put into the incubator and incubated for 48 hours, and the colony forming unit (CFU) count was measured. The bacterial distribution of probe handle and abdominal phantom was evaluated by evaluation. As a result, the CFU value is the lens was $3.0{\pm}0.87$, print button was $5.5{\pm}1.06$, freeze button was $8.0{\pm}4.95$, phantom was $20.0{\pm}2.78$, line was $23.5{\pm}2.50$, and probe handle was measured as $35.3{\pm}10.75$. In this study, it is expected that attention to infection control of equipment during practice during medical ultrasound practice can be highlighted and further contributed to the reduction of bacterial infection rate of ultrasound devices.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of powered toothbrushes for plaque control in patients with peri-implant mucositis, in comparison with manual toothbrushes. Methods: This randomized, prospective, controlled, clinical parallel study compared the efficacy of manual and powered toothbrushes for plaque control in implant restorations. Patients with bleeding on probing, no residual pocket depth (as indicated by a pocket probing depth ${\geq}5mm$), and no radiological peri-implant bone loss were eligible for this study. Patients were requested to complete a questionnaire describing their oral hygiene habits. The duration and frequency of tooth brushing were recorded by subjects in order to assess their compliance. Clinical parameters, including the modified plaque index (mPI), the modified sulcus bleeding index (mSBI), and clinical photographs (buccal and lingual views) were recorded at baseline and at one-month and two-month follow-up visits. Results: Statistically significant differences between patients who used manual toothbrushes and those who used powered toothbrushes were found regarding the frequency of tooth brushing per day and the duration of brushing at one-month and two-month follow-up visits, while no statistically significant differences were found relating to other oral hygiene habits. A statistically significant difference in patient compliance for tooth brushing was found at one month, while no difference was found at two months. Statistically significant decreases in the mPI and the mSBI were observed in both groups from baseline to the one- and two-month follow-ups. The overall reduction of these parameters was not significantly different between the two groups, except for mPI reduction between baseline and one month of follow-up. Conclusions: Sonic-powered toothbrushes may be a useful device for plaque control in patients with peri-implant mucositis.

  • This study is investigated dose change on intra-oral radiography when same conditions under the others unit and same unit under the different exposed conditions. Three different radiation devices were studied. Exposure to the upper anterior, premolar and molar on the variant time and dose measure was using semiconductor radiation dose meter. Obtained film density value was analyzed to the belong in the range of diagnosis. Results for dose of each region were less dissimilar between the maximum and minimum. Its value was different 10 times as many as 3 times. In addition, the range of film density was 2.10 ~ 2.95. These values were exceeded on the allow density of diagnostic value '0.25 ~ 2.0'. Even if the same device and the same condition, measured dose was considerable differance and film density was showed show the inappropriate density range. Those can be caused the patient's re-take and patient's diagnostic errors so patients has affected direct and indirect radiological harm. Therefore, dental radiography devices will be required periodical maintenance and also provided standard on the exposure and processing conditions.

  • This study aimed to illuminate the correlatives between the surface processing of Zirconia core and the shear bond strength. The specimens were made by precipitating for two minutes in color liquid and drying to produce a colored Zirconia core following the manufacturer's instructions. The specimens were divided into 4 subgroups according to the surface treatment-sandblasted+liner treatment, SLT group; sandblasted treatment, ST group; liner treatment, LT group; non treatment (control), NT group. The specimens were put on the device with regard to ISO/TS 11405, then tested the shear bond strength with 1 mm shearing speed per minute using the Instron multi-purpose tester. The collected data was analysed by one way ANOVA and t-test. After applying the liner and sandblast to the Zirconia core, shear bond strength value were SLT (23.19 MPa), ST (21.17 MPa), LT (20.53 MPa) and NT (16.46 MPa) in the order. There was a significant difference in the surface roughness between NT and ST group (p<0.001), and in the compressive shear bond strength between NT and SLT group (p<0.05). Therefore, sandblasted plus liner treatment on pre-sintered substructure increased the bond strength of veneering ceramic, compared with other surface treatments.

  • SNR (signal to ratio) is a criterion for providing objective information for evaluating the performance of a magnetic resonance imaging device, and is an important measurement standard for evaluating the quality of MR (Magnetic Resonance) image. The purpose of our study is to evaluate the correct SNR measurement for multi-channel coil and parallel imaging. As a result of research, we found that both T1 and T2 weighted images show the narrowest confidence interval of the method recommended by NEMA (The National Electrical manufacturers Association) 1 having a single measurement method, whereas the ACR (American College of Radiology) measurement method using a multi-channel coil and a parallel imaging technique shows the widest confidence interval. There is a significance in that we quantitatively verified the inaccurate problems of a signal to noise ratio using a ACR measurement method when using a multi-channel coil and a parallel imaging technique of which method does not satisfy the preconditions that researchers could overlook.

  • Accurate measurement of the absorbed dose and the effective dose is required in dental panoramic radiography involving relatively low energy with a rotational X-ray tube system using long exposures. To determine the effectiveness of measuring the irradiation by using passive dosimetry, we compared the entrance skin doses by using a radiophotoluminescent glass dosimeter (RPL) and an optically stimulated luminescence detector (OSL) in a phantom model consisting of nine and 31 transverse sections. The parameters of the panoramic device were set to 80 kV, 4 mA, and 12 s in the standard program mode. The X-ray spectrum was applied in the same manner as the panoramic dose by using the SpekCalc Software. The results indicated a mass attenuation coefficient of $0.008226cm^2/g$, and an effective energy of 34 keV. The equivalent dose between the RPL and the OSL was calculated based on a product of the absorbed doses. The density of the aluminum attenuators was $2.699g/cm^3$. During the panoramic examination, tissue absorption doses with regard to the RPL were a surface dose of $75.33{\mu}Gy$ and a depth dose of $71.77{\mu}Gy$, those with regard to the OSL were surface dose of $9.2{\mu}Gy$ a depth dose of $70.39{\mu}Gy$ and a mean dose of $74.79{\mu}Gy$. The effective dose based on the International Commission on Radiological Protection Publication 103 tissue weighting factor for the RPL were $0.742{\mu}Sv$, $8.9{\mu}Sv$, $2.96{\mu}Sv$ and those for the OSL were $0.754{\mu}Sv$, $9.05{\mu}Sv$, and $3.018{\mu}Sv$ in the parotid and sublingual glands, orbit, and thyroid gland, respectively. The RPL was more effective than the OSL for measuring the absorbed radiation dose in low-energy systems with a rotational X-ray tube.
