This study attempted to find out how much stress Dental Technicians of working in Dental Laboratory have built up in the midst of their daily lives are according to their sex, age, duration of work and their kinds of positions. After self-administered questionnaire were distributed by direct to 230 technicians samplely selected from dental laboratories in Seoul and Pusan of whom 163 technicians responded from october 1 through october 13, 1994. Analysis of the data was processed by t-test, $X^2$-test, ANOVA. This results are as follows. 1. Levels of Stress of the total 163 respondents by sex is not higher among male than female(p>.05). 2. Levels of stress - 36.2%(74 Dental technicians) of all Dental technicians were in stress on the whole and 9.2%(15 Dental technicians) of them were in a serious situation by accumulated stress. 3. Realization of stress - 10.1%(16 Dental technicians) of the dental technicians and 89.9%(143 Dental technicians) were found out to be in a dangerous sign or in a situation by accumulated stress. Further studies which a big size and a delicate method of measuring their general characteristics are needed.
The purpose of this study is to investigate relations among job-related attributes of dental technicians. Findings of the study can be summarized as follows. Differences in four job-related attributes among dental technicians in accordance with their titles were investigated to find that dental lab managers were higher in job satisfaction than chief and assistant technicians of the lab. Dental lab managers were given the best work climate, followed by chief technicians of hospital, those of dental lab and assistant technicians. Job competence was highest in part of the managers, followed by chief assistants of hospital, those of dental lab and assistant technicians. But work facilities that were being used by dental technicians were not significantly different in quality in accordance with their titles. Assistant technicians were lower in job satisfaction, given work climate and job competence than managers and chief technicians of both hospital and dental lab. Under same work conditions, female dental technicians were higher in job satisfaction than male ones. Dental technicians' job satisfaction were most affected by work climate, followed by job competence and the quality of work facilities in order. In other words, job satisfaction was higher when work climate was better, job competence was higher or when work facilities were better. Job satisfaction was generally lower in part of male dental technicians than female ones. Considering the fact that job satisfaction is most influenced by work climate, more careful attention should be paid to assistant technicians who while on duty, usually have not so good relationship with seniors or colleagues. Those technicians also usually have few or no opportunity of obtaining latest knowledge or skills, so they should be allowed time for seminars or lectures in which such knowledge or skills are educated. It is also important to raise assistant technicians' pride about their job by empowering them by authorization or giving more remuneration or other rewards for their improved job competence.
In order to ascertain the aspects of the dental technicians training system which require improvement, and also to provide important data for use in setting up dental technicians manpower planning, our country's dental technicians training and employment status has been studied and analyzed. The objects of the survey are 2,315 dental technicians, the total number of persons licensed by The Ministry of Health and Social Affairs from 1965 to 1986. The results were as follows: 1. Education organs for dental technicians are education system such as health junior college and service training systems and 1,706 technicians have come from health junior college in our country. 2. Total number of employment of dental technicians employed in our country are, 1,541 and 406 of them are engaged in Seoul. So unbalanced employment of dental technicians will be troubled in a future. 3. All registrated to government are 4,847 till 1986, and 1,541 of them engaged are that is, we can suppose about employment of dental technicians in a future, 12,231 dental technicians will registrate to Health and Social Administration on 1996 and 3,530 of them will be able to take their job in Korea.

This study was carried out in order to examine demographic variables and personal and working conditions affecting to self-esteem, self-efficacy and work autonomy and mental health of the dental technicians. For this study, questionnaires composed of 50 items for the measurement of psychiatric symptom, work autonomy, self-esteem and self-efficacy index and 14 items related with demographic variables and personal and working conditions were distributed to 400 dental technicians and the 304 of them were statistically analyzed the results were as the following ; 1. Self-esteem and self- efficacy in dental technicians appeared to be interacted. 2. Score of self-efficacy index was higher in dental technicians of young age, or high or professional education than in otherwise dental technicians. 3. Score of self-efficacy index was higher in dental technicians of young age or professional education than in otherwise dental technicians. 4. All of self-esteem, self-efficacy and work autonomy in dental technicians affected directly their psychiatric symptom. 5. Promotion, and communication with fellows and senior workers of dental technicians affected directly their psychiatric symptom. 6. Each of anxiety, anger, depression and cognitive disturbance appeared to be interacted.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate dental technicians' awareness of infections and to enhance their interest and commitment towards infection prevention. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire survey was conducted among dental technicians. Total of 195 responses were used for analysis. A cross-tabulation analysis was used to compare dental technicians' awareness of infections according to their levels of education on infection prevention (α=0.05). Results: Dental technicians were educated on infection prevention (40.5%). Most participants received infection prevention education from school (29.8%). Dental laboratories had an infection control guideline (34.9%). Dental technicians were not aware of infection risks at their workplaces or believed that they were not at risk of infections at their workplaces (59.3%). Conclusion: Dental technicians must be consistently educated on infection prevention and control through systematic education at school and wider promotion through media. Research is needed to economically and efficiently improve equipment used by dental technicians and to protect them from infectious diseases. A budget for infection prevention must also be determined. Institutional measures such as providing support for dental technicians at the policy level and developing a basic infection prevention manual are necessary. Solving these issues not only protects dental technicians from infections but also allows them to provide high-quality medical services.
The purpose of this study is to investigate relations between the organizational culture and job satisfaction of ordinary dental technicians who are serving at dental laboratories. Findings of the study are summarized as follows. Ordinary dental technicians' job satisfaction as a whole was measured 3.40 in average score. In detail, those dental technicians were highest in satisfaction about their work, followed by their work conditions, organizational relations and occupation itself in order, but showed some dissatisfaction in terms of their self-realization. Regarding relations between the organizational culture and job satisfaction of ordinary dental technicians, the former was found significantly affecting the latter. Those dental technicians' job satisfaction was being most positively influenced by innovation-orientation as one of their organizational culture styles, followed by task-orientation. In regard to relations between sub-areas of the satisfaction and styles of the culture, ordinary dental technicians' organizational relations were being significantly, positively affected by such styles of their organizational culture as relation-orientation and task-orientation. Those technicians' occupational satisfaction, self-realization and work conditions were being strongly influenced by one of their organizational culture styles, that is, innovation-orientation. Originary dental technicians' work satisfaction was not being significantly affected by any of the organizational culture styles. The more relation- or task-orienting ordinary dental technicians were in organizational culture, the stronger their organizational relations were. The more innovation-orienting ordinary dental technicians were in organizational culture, the more those dental technicians' satisfaction regarding their occupation, self-realization and work conditions is likely to positively change. These findings indicate that ordinary dental technicians are even more orienting both relation and task in organizational culture, while being afraid of innovation and that their organizational culture as a whole is somewhat strict hierarchically.
This study was carried out to understand the influence of dental technicians' image and major satisfaction on dental technology students' dropout intention. A questionnaire survey was administered to 273 students in the Department of Dental Technology. Frequency analysis, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis were performed. The results are as follows: The image of dental technicians differed significantly depending on factors such as school year, personality, whether a family member is a dental technician or not, reason for choosing a department, difficulty in one's own academic life, and disciplinary life adaptation (p<0.05). The image of dental technicians was seen to be positively perceived when the respondent had an affirmative personality, or had a dental technician among family members or chose the department for its uniqueness, or found no difficulty in academic life, and adapted well to a situational or environmental change. Major satisfaction of dental technicians was seen a meaningful difference in items such as school year, personality, awareness of dental technicians, reason for choosing a department, the difficulty in own academic life, and the disciplinary life adaptation (p<0.05). Individuals with high major satisfaction and low dropout intention included those with a positive personality, who think affirmatively about dental technicians, who chose a department owing to suiting the aptitude and interest or to the uniqueness of the major. The influential factors on dropout intention included general satisfaction out of major satisfaction, perspective and self-confident image among dental technicians, and an awareness of dental technicians. The establishment of a desirable image of dental technicians and the improvement in major satisfaction are considered likely to contribute to reducing the dropout intention of dental technology students.
Self-leadership means a person's ability to make his thought or behavior in a right way by controlling it himself. Strategies of the same leadership can be largely categorized into three, behavior focused, natural reward and constructive thought strategies. In this study, the foresaid styles of self-leadership strategy are discussed from the perspective of dental lab laboratories' business environment of Gyeongnam region. And accordingly, this researcher examined such strategy styles that dental lab managers, chief technicians and assistant technicians usually have. Results of the study can be summarized as follows. First, out of the self-leadership strategy styles, most remarkably found among the professional of dental technology was constructive thought strategy, followed by behavior-focused and natural reward strategies in order. In general, therefore, the professionals strongly tend to make their thoughts that can a positive effect on their work performance or in a constructive way. In other words, professional dental technicians are more likely to make efforts to persuade or persuade themselves to change their own unreasonable confidence or negative process in more positive way. Second, the extent to which constructive thought strategy is perceived was not different among dental lab managers, chief technicians and assistant technicians. While, behavior-focused and natural reward strategies were found most strongly perceived by dental lab managers, followed by chief and assistant technicians in order. This may be attributed to the fact that the higher professional dental technicians are in position, the higher they are in self-leadership, or in the ability to overcome crises by themselves and make their thought or behavior in a right way. Dental lab managers usually have lots of experiences in relation to behavior-focused or natural reward strategy. Therefore, they are very strongly capable of controlling themselves in order to overcome crises or make their thought or behavior in a right way. In contrast, assistant technicians are still having lots of trials and errors because they are less experienced and skilled. This suggests that chief technicians should make themselves fully capable as a medium that connects between dental lab managers and assistant technicians.
