Objectives : The aim of the study is to investigate anxiety, fatigue and stress of dental hygiene students in clinical practice and to improve the psychological support program. Methods : A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 428 dental hygiene students in 4 universities in Gwagju and Jeonnam. Data were analyzed for anxiety, stress and fatigue, general characteristics using SPSS 18.0 program for descriptive statistics, ANOVA, and correlation. Results : Saliva suction showed the most high score in treatment($mean{\pm}SD=2.92{\pm}1.13$) and was followed by children dental care($2.79{\pm}1.21$), preventive dental care($2.38{\pm}1.04$), maxillofacial radiology($2.35{\pm}1.15$). During the clinical practice, students felt uneasy when they stayed in relative home(p<0.05). Poor interpersonal relation(p<0.001), poor health condition(p<0.01), low satisfaction with major(p<0.01), the other cause of major choice(p<0.01) influenced on their stress. Satisfaction with major was closely related to clinical practice performance, anxiety, physical fatigue and mental fatigue. Conclusions : In order to reduce physical, mental, neuro sensory fatigue of students in clinical practice, it is recommended to reinforce the patient care etiquettes in curricula.
Objectives: The objective of this study is to provide basic data needed in developing an educational program designed to upgrade capacity and awareness of preventive dental treatment among oral health workers, by analyzing levels of awareness of preventive dental treatment and educational needs among dentists and dental hygienists. Methods: The collected data was analyzed with SPSS program ver. 19.0. The data was under t-test. Results: The frequency level of giving preventive dental treatment to patients among dentists and dental hygienists is below mid-point, 3 on the 5-point Likert scale. In terms of frequency level per item, scaling & polishing was ranked the highest, followed by periodontal maintenance, tooth-brushing instruction, and prescription and instruction of oral care product in descending order. On the questions asking how important preventive dental care they perceive to be, both dentists and dental hygienists perceived it to be highly important. When they were asked to rank those items by the importance of education, they considered periodontal maintenance as the most important one, followed by individual education of oral health, incremental oral health care, scaling& polishing, toothbrushing instruction, and prescription and instruction of oral care product. Respondents pointed out problems in running a preventive dental treatment program as follows: overwork, lack of dedicated workforce, un-fixed costs, and lack of necessary equipment. When they were asked to point out items needed to run such a program, the largest number of respondents indicated dedicated workforce placement, followed by improving awareness of the customer, and improving awareness of the dental workers. Conclusions: In order to effectively run a preventive dental treatment program, it is necessary for oral health workers to clearly understand the concept of it. It is also necessary to develop and operate an education program on preventive dental treatment targeting oral health professionals.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of incremental dental care(IDC) program on kindergarten children. Methods : The subjects were 46 kindergarten children aged 6 who wished participation in IDC program during 5 weeks at oral health center in G-college from March to May, 2012. The data of subjects were examined into oral conditions such as toothbrushing method and frequency, modified O'leary plaque index and dental caries activity before and after IDC program. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS statistical package version 19.0. Results : 1. The rolling and fones methods of toothbrushing increased from 10.8% to 91.3% after IDC program(p<.001). The change of toothbrushing frequency showed that over 3 times a day increased from 52.2% to 76.0% after IDC program(p<.01). 2. The modified O'leary plaque index of before toothbrushing education increased from 1st visit(score 32.19) to 5th visit(score 57.14) and after toothbrushing education increased from 1st visit(score 64.45) to 5th visit(score 78.27) during IDC program(p<.001). 3. As a results of dental caries activity test before and after IDC program, it was found that the bacterial numbers in S.mutans and Latobacillus reduced from 0.74, 0.70 to 0.28, 0.41 (p<.01) and the saliva buffering capacity increased from 1.50 to 2.02(p<.001). Conclusions : It is considered very necessary that IDC program should be maintained and extended to dental clinic so as to enhance the oral health state of kindergarten children.

Objectives: This research has executed a new oral health promotion program among the elderly residents of a long-term care center, which purpose was to verify its effectiveness of oral health promotion through the improvement of their oral function. Methods: This study has selected the elderly over the age of 65, capable of communication, who use a long-term care center over the period of two months between July and September 2014. The subjects who remained until the final analysis numbered 50 excluding the dropouts during the program session (experimental: 33, control : 17). The oral stretching program was exercised two days a week, for total of two months. Each function was assessed by the standardized methods and measurement equipment. Also the sum of each function was converted into the oral health grade. Results: The oral function score of the experimental group also showed a statistically significant difference after the execution of the program, where the oral function score of experimental group increased $6.70{\pm}1.30$ from $4.95{\pm}0.89$ after the execution of the program (p<0.05), while the comparison group showed no valid statistical difference with the score result of $5.00{\pm}0.87$ down from $5.11{\pm}0.93$ after the execution of the program (p>0.05). Conclusions: Therefore if the oral health promotion program is reflected to the welfare policy in the future, it can be said that it contributes to the improved health status of the elderly who reside in the long-term care centers.
In 2001, as a subject of this study, the first grade 165 kids in Yomju elementary school had been guided in pit and fissure sealant, fluoride rinse, group tooth brushing, and Dental health education as a part of oral disease preventive program. From the data, this author has estimated incremental dental health care program in school dental clinic in order to make it more effective and enlarge it. For that purpose, the program has been continued at six month intervals for two years. The retention condition of pit and fissure sealant in first molar and DMF rate had been investigated. The conclusions are as follows: 1. Full and partial retention of pit and fissure sealant was measured as 80.69% in maxillary right first molar, 83.20% in maxillary left first molar, and 86.72% in mandibular right first molar, and 86.28% in mandibular left first molar. 2. Retention of pit and fissure sealant in first molar was measured as 76.55% in maxillary right first molar, 81.03% in maxillary left first molar, 80.65% in mandibular left first molar, and 82.03% in mandibular right first molar. 3. Among Yomju elementary school students, DMF rate was measured as 8.7%, and DMFT index as 1.03. However, in Yangdong elementary school students the former was measured as 13.8% and the latter as 1.76. When the DMF rate difference between Yomju and Yangdong elementary school kids was considered, the oral health condition of the former was much better than that of the latter because the former had received incremental dental health care program for two years and on the other hand, the latter had not. So it is necessary that we should enlarge school dental clinic, improve and keep students' oral health.
Objective: The purpose of the study was to investigate the factors affecting unmet dental care needs of Korean using 6th Korean National Health and Nutritional Examination survey(KNHANES). Methods: The subjects were 13,718 Koreans from the 6th KNHANES data. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects, reason for dental care needs by socio-economic status and unmet dental care needs. Data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 program. Results: The proportion of unmet dental care needs accounted for 27.4% and the main reasons were financial burden and less priority. Male had 0.21 times less unmet dental needs than female. Low, mid low, and mid high economic income groups had 1.27, 1.24, and 1.08 times respectively more unmet dental care needs than high income group. Those having good and average self-perceived oral health status experienced 0.83 and 0.63 times less dental care needs. Conclusions: Socio-economic factors and health status were the important factors of unmet dental care needs and it is necessary to provide a variety of public service of dental care for the low income group.

Objectives: This study is based on a visiting oral health care intervention program in the community care. This qualitative study was conducted through in-depth interviews to identify awareness and attitudes regarding intervention program among older adults. Methods: The research team visited the homes of the target older adults and conducted in-depth interviews for approximately an hour using a semi-structured questionnaire. The collected voice recordings were transcribed using Clova Note, and AI program by Naver. Using the 'Word Cloud Generator 3.7' program, words of high importance and interest from interview answers were extracted, visualized, and analyzed. Results: Participating older adults acknowledged that their quality of life related to oral health could be improved by increasing the level of oral health awareness and oral health knowledge through the intervention program. In addition, the older adults indicated that their oral hygiene management ability improved compared to before the intervention through expert oral hygiene management and oral health education. Further, as the level of oral health knowledge increased, so too did satisfaction with the intervention program increase. Conclusions: The intervention program for visiting oral health care showed a positive effect on the awareness and attitude of older adults. Thus, it is suggested that education for continuous competency enhancement of dental hygienists and multidisciplinary education for the improvement of general health and quality of life of older adults should be promoted.

Background: The population of Gangneung City in South Korea has shown a gradual increase in the proportion of individuals aged 65 years and older, and the most frequently reported diseases for several years have consistently been periodontal diseases, including gingivitis and periodontitis. The regional imbalance in the distribution of dental personnel and resources has emerged as a problem of inequality in the use of dental care. It has been advocated to identify areas with disadvantages in dental care and develop public dental policies based on that. This study aimed to develop a customized oral healthcare program for local seniors based on a Public-Private-Academic Partnership, and to evaluate the oral health status of older adults in Gangneung City. Methods: The participants were residents aged 60 years and above in Gangneung City. A questionnaire including general information, systemic health status, and oral health status was administered to the participants. In addition, oral healthcare and education tailored to each individual's health status were provided once or twice based on their oral health status. The collected data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 25 for descriptive statistical analysis. Results: Among the older adults in Gangneung City, 75% had at least one prosthesis and exhibited symptoms of gingivitis or periodontitis. Additionally, the modified sulcus bleeding index decreased among participants who underwent the program twice. Over 90% of the participants expressed satisfaction with the program. Conclusion: The program appeared to contribute positively to the oral health promotion among local seniors. Further oral healthcare programs should focus on seniors in rural and old urban areas to reduce disparities in oral health across regions.
Background: The program aims to enable the participants to receive oral health care with sustainability and give them the choice and prior autonomy of dental practitioners while enhancing the benefits of sustainability. The purpose of this study is to investigate the necessity, awareness, and satisfaction of the implementation of the registered dentist program for children and adolescents, and to promote the introduction of RDPCA. Methods: The survey targeted adult residents in their 20s or older who live in Seoul, an area that continuously implements the RDPCA system, especially in the cities of Cheonan and Asan Results: 79.7% were the most unaware. However, RDPCA participants were significantly more aware than non-participants. When surveying the desire to participate in RDPCA, 96.6% of the respondents said they would 'participate' in the non-RDPCA participate group. The analysis of the satisfaction level of the RDPCA received by their children indicated that 48.6% expressed their satisfaction, and 47.3% said they were healthy. There was a high percentage of people who said they would recommend RDPCA to others as well as a high rate of those who said they would continue to use RDPCA. Conclusions: The reality is that the awareness and implementation of RDPCA are low. For the development of oral health care programs for all children and adolescents in Korea, and the improvement of the satisfaction level of the dental care system, there should be an active consideration of high-quality programs and.
This research was conducted by targeting pregnant women in the trial operation of dental hygiene care program with the focus on non-surgical periodontal treatments at the Maternal and Child Health center in the public health center. This study was conducted to provide basic data to dental hygienists who operate oral health promotion programs by targeting pregnant women of the local community through the evaluation on structure, the assessment process and results from the pilot program at the public health center. The targets are nine pregnant women who have been involved in the Dental hygiene care program three times. An evaluation on the structure, process and results according to the Indicators of each program were conducted. The results of dental hygiene care program found that the retention rate decreased. The retention of the probing pocket depth larger than 4mm was 40.4% to 14.0%(p<0.05). The retention rate of the gingival bleeding teeth was 4.6% to 2.7% (p=0.180). PHP Index improved. 1.7 points in the 1st to 1.4 points in the 3rd in the case of the second pregnant woman and 2.4 points in the 1st to 1.3 points (p<0.05) in the 3rd in the case of the third pregnant woman. The applicable and expandable possibility of the dental hygiene care program with the focus on non-surgical periodontal treatments at the Community Health Center is significant in the result of this study. In the future, long-term operation and ongoing monitoring of this program is needed.
