Dental ceramics is well known to have excellent esthetics, biocompatibility as well as high compressive strength. However, the fragility of ceramics against tensile and shear loads leading to the delayed fracture of micro crack on ceramic surface and the backwardness of ceramic fabrication technique limit the usage of ceramic materials in dentistry. Among all ceramic materials, zirconia has been introduced to overcome the drawback of conventional dental ceramics in the field of dentistry due to the nature of zirconia featuring proper opalescence and high fracture toughness. Also, novel manufacturing techniques enable ceramic materials to prepare high esthetic anterior and posterior all ceramic system. In this paper, it is introduced and discussed that novel techniques characterizing the bond strength between zirconia core and veneering ceramics and analyzing the fluorescence of dental ceramics in order to overcome the gap between the results of basic research and the feasibility of the results in the field of dental clinics.
As a result of having surveyed and analyzed recognition and requirement of dental hygienists for Academic Credit Bank System, the recognition on Academic Credit Bank System accounted for 70.8%, and in terms of information media recognized, surrounding people were the highest with 52.4%. And, in case of the response as saying of being willing to participate, an opportunity of acquiring a bachelor's degree accounted for 24.0%, and in case of the response as saying of being unwilling to participate, the lack of time that will take part in education activity accounted for 13.7%, thereby having been surveyed to be the most preferential choice, respectively. The importance by sphere in course programs was indicated to be the sphere of preventive dental treatment with 3.61, the sphere of dental management with 3.38, the sphere of oral health education with 3.09, the sphere of medical-treatment coordination with 2.82, and the sphere of community dental health with 2.11 in order. The importance by field of sphere in course programs was indicated to be high in the field of oral health education by subject with 2.30 for the field of sphere in oral health education, in the field of plaque control and oral prophylaxis with 3.53 for the field of sphere in preventive dental treatment, in the field of management of the fluoride mouth-rinsing programme with 2.86 for the field of sphere in community dental health, in the field of counselling with 3.24 for the field of sphere in dental management, and in the field of medical-treatment assistance with 1.53 for the field of sphere in medical-treatment coordination.
This treatise suggests the effective method for the dental laboratory technology teaching plan. It will present concrete practical steps for and audio-visual dental laboratory technology education approach. It will also help students to understand the dental laboratory theory and practice learned in the class and make use of it greatly in the field work. As follows: 1. Instructor should teach interestingly basic dental laboratory technology theory with illustrations and figures on the teaching method. 2. In practical traing class, instructor should teach every step, using audio-visual materials such as slides and video tapes/Instructor and his assist and should show an example to the students. 3. Instructor should make a standard and train the studtnes repeatedly until they come up to it. 4. Students should be skilled in every case through field work during their spare time and vacation. 5. Instructor should also teach job moral and manner to the students so that they can be adapted themselves to the social activities and be successful dental laboratory technician after graduation.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to make a comparative analysis of the curriculum segment of the dental hygiene education accrediting criteria, one of the six segments of the criteria, and the curriculums of 26 colleges in a bid to provide information on the modification or improvement of the curriculums. Method : The curriculums of 18 three-year-course colleges and eight four-year-course universities were selected, and the courses offered by 10 colleges or more were categorized into three different fields to tabulate the courses: primary education, prevention / education, and clinical dental hygiene. After the courses were analyzed, some of them that were possible to integrate in view of dental hygienist duties were presented in this study as inclusive courses. Results : There was connection among the degree courses of the three-year-course curriculums in the field of primary education. The curriculums failed to keep up with the worldwide globalization trend. 90 credits or more were allocated to major subjects, which satisfied one of the mandatory requirements of the accrediting criteria, and two colleges provided theoretical and practical courses in the ratio of 50:50. A wide variety of personality-education and teaching-profession courses were offered according to each college's circumstances. None of the colleges was equipped with an inclusive curriculum, and there was a tendency for the three-year-course colleges to offer segmented subjects in accordance with the national examination. The courses in the field of prevention and education that are bound up with the job performance of dental hygienists should be integrated into dental hygiene and practice, and the courses in the clinical dental hygiene field should be incorporated into an inclusive course of 치과임상학. The integration of the courses will make it possible to ensure the successful articulation of the different school systems and to stay abreast with the globalization trend. Even just inclusive courses should give more weight to practice than theory to bolster the job performance of dental hygienists, and an inclusive curriculum should be prepared for students to receive activity-centered hands-on education in different semesters.
The authors selected socio-geographically different sample areas. The dental caries on the deciduous teeth was observed and evaluated in each sample area. And then, dft rate, dft index, dt rate and ft rate were calculated and compared. The obtained results were as follows; 1. The dft rate of the deciduous teeth was 33.28% in the metropolitan area, 19.78% in city area, 18.21% in town area, 13.48% in field area, 15.26% in coastal area, 22.11% in mountain area, and 20.37% in hot spring area. 2. The dft index of the deciduous teeth was 4.51 in metropolitan area, 2.78 in city area, 2.59 in town area, 1.95 in field area, 2.30 in coastal area, 3.03 in mountain area, and 2.85 in hot spring area. 3. The dt rate of the deciduous teeth was 66.51% in metropolitan area, 95.38% in field area, 98.94% in hot spring area, and 100% in the other areas. 4. The ft rate of the deciduous teeth was 33.48% in metropolitan area, 4.61% in field area, 10.50% in hot spring area, and 0.00% in the other areas. 6. We could not find that the some dental cares for the dental caries on the deciduous teeth of Korean children were supplied in metropolitan area, and the track of dental cares was appreciated in the field area, but no trace was indentified in the coastal, mountain, city, and town areas.
Objectives: This study aims to establish the concept of "dental assistance" within the dental field and to identify the scope of dental assistance, which can be utilized in order to distinguish the scope of work between jobs. Methods: The literature on dental hygienist work and dental assistance was reviewed, and the laws and precedents related to dental assistance were examined. Results: The criteria for judging the legitimacy of dental assistance included the following: whether the performance was conducted under the guidance and supervision of a doctor; whether there was a possibility of an aftereffect or side effects of the procedure; whether education was conducted within the curriculum; and whether it was evaluated in the national licensing examination. In addition, the work of the assistant in dental surgery and treatment is judged comprehensively by considering the type of dental surgery and treatment, invasive degree, necessity of expertise, and work proficiency of the dental hygienist. Therefore, it is suggested that dental hygienists may be of assistance for dental treatment/surgery because they meet the requirements of dental professionals, such as dental hygiene curriculum, national licensing examination, duties in the field of dentistry, and work proficiency. Conclusions: Dental assistance (including assistance in dental surgery) for dental treatment, dental/medical history taking, taking vital signs, and blood glucose monitoring should be permitted within the realm of dental hygienist work. Therefore, the actual expertise of dental hygienists should be reflected legally and the work of dental hygienists should be realized.

Objective: The purpose is to study the factors to impact on the satisfaction of field practice among dental hygiene students and to provide the basic data for the quality improvement of the field practices for dental hygiene students. Methods: A self-reported questionnaires were filled out by 108 dental hygiene students in C city. Questionnaires were composed with the general characteristics, satisfaction to major, and satisfaction to field clinical practice. The data was analyzed by chi-square statistics using SPSS 20.0 program. Results: The higher satisfaction to communication with professor or seniors in department was associated with the higher satisfaction to field clinical practice (p<0.05). The higher satisfaction to field clinical practice hours per week was associated with the higher satisfaction to field clinical practice (p<0.05). The higher interest to major subjects and the satisfaction to the laboratory environment were associated with the higher satisfaction to field clinical practice (p<0.05). Conclusions: The higher satisfaction to major was associated with the higher satisfaction to field clinical practice. Therefore, the systematic curriculum development is needed to improve the satisfaction with major and clinical practice.
Objectives : This study is aimed to help the dental hygiene department students to improve their adaptive ability to the field work by letting them know the performing levels required of the job world, by renovating the knowledge-centered curriculum, and by finding out the core competencies needed for successfully performing their duties and tasks in the work field. Methods : The survey tool was recomposed through the examination of the preceeding studies on basic vocational competencies and skills, and the survey has been done to 200 dentists in Seoul and Gyunggi provice. Results : 1. As for the job-getting routs, 35.1% of them finds their jobs through the job portal sites, and 21.3% through the recommendation by professors. So we can see the meaningful difference in the employment ways. 2. Dental hygiene clinics think that the purpose of their cooperation with the colleges is mainly to secure human resources by requiring the colleges to give field-centered education the colleges through. 3. The clinics for dental hygienic students' field learning have a great power for hiring the students. So it is necessary to set up a good management system of the clinics for dental hygienic students' field learning in order to reinforce the students' competitive power in getting jobs. 4. The priorities in basic working abilities needed for the task performance are in the order of vocational responsibility, self-managing & developing ability, interpersonal skill, and problem solving ability. 5. The core competencies required of those who graduate from dental hygiene school show the following scores by Likert measurement; good personality and vocational consciousness 2.16(${\pm}.677$), understanding power of major-related knowledge 2.19(${\pm}.723$), field adapting ability 2.31(${\pm}.748$), get-along-with ability 2.32(${\pm}.799$), interpersonal skill 2.42(${\pm}.768$), and self-development ability such as getting certificates 2.43(${\pm}.729$). Among the core competencies, the only meaningful factor which influences on their satisfaction measurement has been identified as the professional ability related to the major. Conclusions : The results suggest that the knowledge and skill related to the major are core competencies of able human resources and closely related with the professionality of the job, and so they are very important. However, job basic abilities are also proved to be important, which reinforce the students' activeness, self-regulation, and creativeness, and help them to pursue their lasting growth in their abilities.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to provide basic materials for defining educational direction of dental hygiene department and establishing the instruction to improve direction consulting and academic effect of dental hygiene department student. Methods : The researcher surveyed the relation among job aptitude, academic ability and academic performance by selecting 131 dental hygiene department students of P university as study targets. Results : For high school classifications, direction searches and academic abilities of dental hygiene department students of P university, it was found that classical high school was 68.7% and vocational high school was 31.3%. For job aptitude, social type was 58.0% and artistic type was 26.0% so they were usual. For academic ability, interpersonal relation($12.78{\pm}1.34$), music/rhythm was($12.32{\pm}1.09$) and natural($12.32{\pm}1.00$) showed high scores in order over the first, the second and the third field and language/vocabulary(22.6%) and music/rhythm(21.6%) was the next. For academic performance depending on high school classification, job aptitude and academic ability, there was a significant difference in high school classification by classical high school($86.55{\pm}8.21$) and vocational high school($85.34{\pm}11.31$)(p<0.05) and there was also a significant difference in job aptitude by social type($85.45{\pm}9.42$) and artistic type($88.41{\pm}6.93$)(p<0.05). In the mutual relation between academic ability and academic performance, the high academic ability score in the first field was led to the high score in the second and the third field, showing significant mutual relation(p<0.00). Conclusions : This research has been accomplished by college students of dental hygeine department, so you have to consider before generalizing these results. Therefore it is required to research more, likewise using a comparison with other students or it should be conducted by general people.
The objective of this study is to research the job spirits of Korea Dental Technisians, Then to figure out the reality of Dental Laboratory Technology field. So to provide data for improving the working condition in which they can with the proper value and pride and be of help in the development of Dental Laboratory Technology field. 1. Before entering school, 121(59.1%) scarcely knew about Dental Technisians, which show its perception is fairly low. The reason for choosing their job, 93(45.4%) answered the most it has a rosy future. 2. About the job satsfaction, 77.5% was satisfied counting the "so-so"s as contentment. About the channel for getting their jobs, 81(39.5%) the most made it through their own efforts. 3. The most influential factor when choosing their jobs, character and aptitude is answered the most by 115(56.1%). The working period they want is the time when they can't work for health problem, 76(37.1%) answered. 4. The most favored job condition of Dental Technitians is opening their own office(69, 33.7% and the most favored work is dental ceramics 62.9%, 129) 5. About their desires on changing jobs, about 52.2% was considering it and the reason for it they are treated improperly in spite of their academic background.(57.1%, 117ppl) 6. About the events for improvement of their job knowledge, 75(36.6%) answered participation in seminars. For the present, the most interesting part is to take new skills via the seminars(33.7%, 69ppl) 7. On the future of the Dental Laboratory Technology field, 80.4% said would be better. On the claims for the Dental Laborotory Technology Association, 152(74.1%) said they wanted their reights and interests protected.
