  • We present the preliminary result from our KVN single-dish observations of the MALATANG sample. The MALATANG (Mapping the dense molecular gas in the strongest star-forming Galaxies) is one of the JCMT legacy surveys on the nearest 23 IR-brightest galaxies beyond the Local Group. The goal of the MALATANG survey is to map the sample in the dense gas tracers (HCN and HCO+J=4-3), and probe the relationships between the dense molecular gas and star formation activities. As a complementary study, we recently launched a KVN/KaVA program on the same sample, in order to measure their flux densities and parsec-scale jet/outflows in the millimeter regime, which will be greatly useful in understanding the initial conditions of the feedback process. In this work, we present the preliminary result from our pilot KVN single-dish program on a sub-sample, which will be used to select the future VLBI imaging study under plan. We investigate the KVN spectral energy distributions (SED) of the sample as a function of the power source of the luminous IR brightness of each target (starburst? AGN? or hybrid?). We also discuss the technical challenges that we experienced during our KVN observations due to the large size of the sample in the sky.

  • We have installed an ultra high vacuum (UHV) molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) system and investigated into the characteristics of MBE-grown ZnSe/GaAs [001] using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), we confirmed that layer's surface was dense and uniform of molecular layer. We used x-ray diffractometer (XRD) and confirmed two peaks correspond to GaAs [001] substrate and ZnSe epilayer, respectively. We observed photoluminescence (PL) peak approximately at 437 nm and measured PL mapping of 2 inch ZnSe epilayer.

  • The objectives of this research are as follows. First, to investigate methods for a national-scale land cover map based on multi-temporal classification of MODIS data and multi-spectral classification of Landsat TM data. Second, to investigate methods to p roduce ecological zone maps of Korea based on vegetation, climate, and topographic characteristics. The results of this research can be summarized as follows. First, NDVI and EVI of MODIS can be used to ecological mapping of the country by using monthly phenological characteris tics. Second, it was found that EVI is better than NDVI in terms of atmospheric correction and vegetation mapping of dense forests of the country. Third, several ecological zones of the country can be identified from the VI maps, but exact labeling requires much field works, and sufficient field data and macro-environmental data of the country. Finally, relationship between land cover types and natural environmental factors such as temperature, precipitation, elevation, and slope could be identified.

  • Electric transmission towers are facilities to transport electrical power from a plant to an electrical substation. The towers are connected using wires considering the wire tension and the clearance from the ground or nearby objects. The wires are installed on a rights-of-way that is a strip of land used by electrical utilities to maintain the transmission line facilities. Trees and plants around transmission lines must be managed to keep the operation of these lines safe and reliable. This study proposed the use of a low-cost drone photogrammetry for the transmission line rights-of-way mapping. Aerial photogrammetry is carried out to generate a dense point cloud around the transmission lines from which a DSM (Digital Surface Model) and DTM (Digital Terrain Model) are created. The lines and nearby objects are separated using nDSM (normalized Digital Surface Model) and the noises are suppressed in the multiple image space for the geospatial analysis. The experimental result with drone images over two spans of transmission lines on a mountain area showed that the proposed method successfully generate the rights-of-way map with hazard nearby objects.

  • In Korea, the absence of BIM use in existing civil structures and buildings is driving a demand for as-built BIM. As-built BIMs are often created using laser scanners that provide dense 3D point cloud data. Conventional static laser scanning approaches often suffer from limitations in their operability due to the difficulties in moving the equipment, the selection of scanning location, and the requirement of placing targets or extracting tie points for registration of each scanned point cloud. This paper aims at reducing the manual effort using a kinematic 3D laser scanning system based on graph-based simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) for continuous indoor mapping. The robotic platform carries three 2D laser scanners: the front scanner is mounted horizontally to compute the robot's trajectory and to build the SLAM graph; the other two scanners are mounted vertically to scan the profiles of surrounding environments. To reduce the accumulated error in the trajectory of the platform through loop closures, the graph-based SLAM system incorporates AdaBoost loop closure approach, which is particularly suitable for the developed multi-scanner system providing more features than the single-scanner system for training. We implemented the proposed method and evaluated it in two indoor test sites. Our experimental results show that the false positive rate was reduced by 13.6% and 7.9% for the two dataset. Finally, the 2D and 3D mapping results of the two test sites confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed graph-based SLAM.

  • In this paper, range measurement performance of LRF (Laser Range Finder) module and image contrast of color CCD camera are evaluated under the aerosol (high temperature steam) environments, which are simulated severe accident conditions of the LWR (Light-Water-Reactor) nuclear power plant. Data of LRF and color CCD camera are key informations, which are needed in the implementation of SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) function for emergency response robot system to cope with urgently accidents of the nuclear power plant.

  • Consider ℛ to be an associative prime ring and 𝒦 to be a nonzero dense ideal of ℛ. A mapping (need not be additive) ℱ : ℛ → 𝒬mr associated with derivation d : ℛ → ℛ is called a multiplicative b-generalized derivation if ℱ(αδ) = ℱ(α)δ +bαd(δ) holds for all α, δ ∈ ℛ and for any fixed (0 ≠)b ∈ 𝒬s ⊆ 𝒬mr. In this manuscript, we study the commutativity of prime rings when the map b-generalized derivation satisfies the strong commutativity preserving condition and moreover, we investigate the commutativity of prime rings that admit multiplicative b-generalized derivation, which improves many results in the literature.

  • We present preliminary results of the submillimeter continuum observations of 14 Planck Galactic Cold Clumps (PGCCs), located in the ${\lambda}$ Orionis Complex. This region is the nearest large HII region, which is an ideal site for a study of the stellar feedback to its surroundings. We observed 14 PGCCs with JCMT/SCUBA-2 and used J=1-0 transitions of CO isotopologues from the PMO mapping observation. Several sub-clumps toward three PGCCs were detected at $850{\mu}m$. In order to examine whether these clumps can be candidates for pre-stellar cores, we compared each clump mass calculated from the $850{\mu}m$ continuum map to its Virial mass and Jeans mass calculated from the $^{12}CO$ and $C^{18}O$ (1-0) spectra, respectively. All clumps have masses smaller than their Virial and Jeans masses, indicating that none of them are gravitational bound and thus in the pre-stellar core stage. Also, the CO depletion factor, which has been derived from the dust continuum and the $C^{18}O$(1-0) line and can be an indicator of core evolution, toward the clumps is in the range of 1 to 5, suggesting that they are not very evolved dense pre-stellar cores. In addition, within individual PGCCs, we found clear gradients of velocity (${\sim}1km\;s^{-1}\;pc^{-1}$) and temperature (${\sim}10K\;pc^{-1}$) in the $^{13}CO$ (1-0) first moment map and the $^{12}CO$(1-0) excitation temperature map, respectively. This can be attributed to the compression and external heating by the HII region, which may prevent clumps from forming gravitationally bound structures and eventually disperse clumps. These results could be a hint about the negative effect of stellar feedback on core formation.

  • The Galactic center uniquely provides opportunities to resolve how star clusters form in neutral gas overdensities engulfed in a large-scale accretion flow. We have performed sensitive Green Bank 100m Telescope (GBT), Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (JVLA), and Submillimeter Array (SMA) mapping observations of molecular gas and thermal dust emission surrounding the Galaxy's supermassive black hole (SMBH) Sgr $A^{\ast}$. We resolved several molecular gas streams orbiting the center on ${\gtrsim}10$ pc scales. Some of these gas streams appear connected to the well-known 2-4 pc scale molecular circumnuclear disk (CND). The CND may be the tidally trapped inner part of the large-scale accretion flow, which incorporates inflow via exterior gas filaments/arms, and ultimately feeds gas toward Sgr $A^{\ast}$. Our high resolution GBT+JVLA $NH_3$ images and SMA+JCMT 0.86 mm dust continuum image consistently reveal abundant dense molecular clumps in this region. These gas clumps are characterized by ${\gtrsim}100$ times higher virial masses than the derived molecular gas masses based on 0.86 mm dust continuum emission. In addition, Class I $CH_3OH$ masers and some $H_2O$ masers are observed to be well associated with the dense clumps. We propose that the resolved gas clumps may be pressurized gas reservoirs for feeding the formation of 1-10 solar-mass stars. These sources may be the most promising candidates for ALMA to probe the process of high-mass star-formation in the Galactic center.
