Scandinavian countries have hold tradition shared historically and culturally in common, brought the weighty traditional thoughts enabled to develop their unique culture. Since 1940s, Scandinavian design could pervade with affectionate forms and practical effectiveness with worldwide popularity. It was brought by creation of new and useful forms for the convenience in life, functionalism but not bounded by fashion of it. This study tried into the meaning of their history of modern furnishings design based on the development background of furnishings design, its trends, designers and their work focused around Sweden, Finland, and Denmark. Scandinavian furnishings is a functional furnishings reconciled to natural material and human life exactly correspond to the taste of the generation unrestricted from the tradition of contemporary and compact design preference or classic favored preference. The practicality and exquisite techniques of Scandinavian furnishings lies within the realm of possibility for studiously love of the world.

This paper looks at the Fukushima disaster from the perspective of resilience engineering, which replaces a search for causes with an understanding of how the system failed in its performance. Referring to the four resilience abilities of responding, monitoring, learning, and anticipating, the paper focuses on how inadequate engineering anticipation or risk assessment during the design, in combination with inadequate response capabilities, precipitated the disaster. One lesson is that systems such as nuclear power plants are complicated, not only in how they function during everyday or exceptional conditions, but also during their whole life cycle. System functions are intrinsically coupled synchronically and diachronically in ways that may affect the ability to respond to extreme conditions.

Autometallography method with intraperitoneal injedlon of sodium selenite was employed to investigate the localization of somata of zinc enriched (ZEN) neurons in the medulla oblongata The distribution patterns of the labeled neurons were variable from rostral to caudal regions. The labeled cells by the method were found in Cl adrenaline cells, gigantocellular reticular nucleus, inferior olive, paragigantocellular nucleus, prepositus hypoglossal nucleus, raphe obscurus nucleus, and reticular nucleus regions.

The purpose of this paper is to measure the international competitiveness of insurance business and to analyze its determinants empirically. I have attempted to use Revealed Comparative Advantage(RCA) index to measure domestic competitiveness. confining to OECD countries only. Among domestic competitiveness advantage countries in the insurance, there are Austria, Denmark, France. Japan, Korea... etc. The factors of domestic competitiveness determinants were found out through multivariate regression analysis with panel data$(1990{\sim}1995)$. In insurance industry, statistically significant variables are employee's per capita premium of insurance company (Pro), stock market capitalization/GDP(MVESR), saving rate (SAV) and real interest(RMMR), while they are Pro, MVESR, and real interest in Korea insurance industry.

This paper initiates an effort to look at "South Korean" medicine as perhaps distinct from "Korean" medicine, focusing specifically on the possibility of offering a post-colonial history of medicine. As such, the paper looks at the formation of the NMC (National Medical Center) in Seoul in 1958 (1958-1963, 1963-1968, 1968-1971) by a consortium of European actors--Denmark, Sweden, and Norway--invested in developing new forms of international assistance after the Korean War. Rather than take a firm stance, the paper ultimately suggests that the role of these actors in formative South Korean institutions was constitutive, and perhaps requires much more examination in the future.

Tritium and $^{14}C$ are two most important radionuclides released from nuclear facilities to the environment, and $^{14}C$ contributes dominant radiation dose to the population around nuclear power plants. This paper presents an overview of the production, pathway, species and levels of tritium and $^{14}C$ in nuclear facilities, mainly nuclear power plants. The methods for sampling and collection of different species of tritium and $^{14}C$ in the discharge gas from the stack in the nuclear facilities, atmosphere of the nuclear facilities and environment are presented, and the features of different methods are reviewed. The on-line monitoring methods of gaseous tritium and $^{14}C$ in air and laboratory measurement methods for sensitive determination of tritium and $^{14}C$ in collected samples, water and environmental solid samples are also discussed in detailed. Meanwhile, the challenges in the determination and speciation analysis of tritium and $^{14}C$ are also highlighted.

The transmission loss coefficient is very important acoustic property in parallel with absorption and acoustic impedance categorizing the acoustical materials, which can control the acoustical problems. At the same time, the transmission loss coefficient is a key parameter to choose the optimum material for the analysis of acoustical characteristics of material using SEA(Statistical Energy Analysis). In this paper, the transmission loss coefficient measurement system using 4-microphone impedance tube is proposed, based on the idea calculating the full transfer matrix of the acoustical sample to test. The theoretical background and measurement system are introduced, and finally the measurement results are verified.

This paper presents a new sensorless vector control system for high performance induction motor drives fed by a matrix converter with non-linearity compensation and disturbance observer. The nonlinear voltage distortion that is caused by commutation delay and on-state voltage drop in switching device is corrected by a new matrix converter modeling. The lumped disturbances such as parameter variation and load disturbance of the system are estimated by the radial basis function network (RBFN). An adaptive observer is also employed to bring better responses at the low speed operation. Experimental results are shown to illustrate the performance of the proposed system.

This paper investigated wind turbine degradation quantitatively by analyzing the short-term operation records of the Shinan Wind Power Plant. Instead of a capacity factor which is needed to be normalized its variability due to monthly wind speed change, this study suggests an analysis method by taking the difference between the theoretical power output calculated from the nacelle wind speed and actual power output as the quantitative index of performance degradation. For three-year SCADA data analysis of the Shinan Wind Power Plant, it was confirmed that power output degradation rate of 0.54% per year. This value is within the average reduction rate 0.4%/year~0.9%/year of normalized capacity factor of the onshore wind power plants in U.K. and Denmark; however, lower than the rate 2%/year of Canadian wind power plants.

In the latter part of the $20^{th}$ century, the road in American culture has been identified with independence, mobility, and speed, but in his seminal poem, "Song of the Open Road," Walt Whitman characterized road journeys as simultaneously physical, intellectual, and spiritual, a view embraced by Vincent Van Gogh whose Terrace of a Caf? at Night illustrates in paint what Whitman said in words. Others such as Jack Kerouac in On the Road followed in Whitman's tradition, one taken up even more recently by David Lynch, whose films are best known for a condemnation of American suburban life, but whose Straight Story evokes a profound spirituality as part of the road. This essay explores spirituality in these various texts.
