  • Electrochemical oxidation of ethanol has been studied at nickel and $RuO_2-modified$ nickel electrodes in 1 M KOH using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Equivalent circuits have been worked out from simulation of impedance data to model oxidation of ethanol as well as the passivation of the electrode. The charge-transfer resistances for oxidation of these electrodes became smaller in the presence of ethanol than in its absence. The nickel substrate facilitated ethanol oxidation at $RuO_2-modified$ nickel electrodes. We also describe the Performance of nanosized electrocatalysts of the same composition in comparison to those of the bulk electrodes. The nanosized electrodes were obtained by electrode-positing the alloy from complexed form of these metal ions with fourth and fifth generation polyamidoamine dendrimers.

  • Synthesis and properties of novel excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) materials recently developed in our group are described. Highly efficient ESIPT in polymeric system has been investigated theoretically and experimentally with a semi-rigid polyquinoline (PQH, PQDH) possessing an intramolecular tautomerizable hydrogen bond. Poly(aryl ether) dendrimers of three different generations that are cored with photo-tautomerizable quinoline (QGn, n=1,2,3) were also synthesized and characterized to investigate the effect of dendritic architecture on the ESIPT activity. Stimulated emission and amplified spontaneous emission in these organic materials system are discussed in terms of ESIPT activity.

  • Monolayers of lipids on a water surface have attracted much interest as models of biological membranes, but also as precursors of multilayer systems promising many technical applications. Until now, many methodologies have been developed in order to gain a better understand. Photoisomerization in monolayers of a novel azobenzene compound, azobenzene dendrimer, was investigated for the first time by means of the absorption spectrum and Maxwell displacement current (MDC) technique. Dendrimers are well-defined macromolecules exhibiting a tree-like structure, first derived by the cascade molecule approach. According to the absorption spectrum, trans-to-cis conversion ratio was estimated to the third generation of azobenzene dendrimer deposited onto a glass substrate. Temperature-dependent induced charge with trans-cis isomerization was also measured by means of MDC technique.

  • Dendronized linear polymers have recently come forward as new materials for nanoscale applications. These "molecular cylinders" may be modified with specific chemical makeup, rigidity, surface decoration, and backbone properties much like their spherical analogs, dendrimers. There exist three main synthetic pathways to yield dendronized polymers: (i) graft-to; (ii) graft-from; and (iii) macromonomer. We present an efficient "graft-to" approach towards dendronized microstructures utilizing click chemistry. With the capacity to manipulate their chemical composition, these dendronized structures have already found broad use in site-isolation for catalysis, nanolithography and organic light emitting diodes. These and other potential applications of these materials will be also presented.

  • Silane dendrimer with 96 allylic end groups has been synthesized in excellent yield using repetitive alkenylation-hydrosilylation cycles. Each of the two steps provided the products in almost quantitative yields. After a simple chromotograpic purification (silica gel, chloroform), pure dendrimers were obtained and their purity was checked with 1H, 13C NMR spectroscopic method and elemental analysis.

  • Dendrimers represent a new class of synthetic macromolecules characterized by a regularly branched treelike structure. Peculiar features of the dendritic geometry are the large number of end groups as well as the shape persistence in higher generations, approaching spherical geometry. And one of the most peculiar characteristics of dendritic macromolecules is their controlled molecular structure and orientation, which means that they have a practical application in achieving a highly organized molecular arrangement. We attempted to fabricate a G4-48PyA dendrimer LB films containing 48 pyridinealdoxime functional end group that could form a complex structure with metal ions. Also, we investigated the surface activity of dendrimer films at air-water interface. And we have studied the electrical properties of the ultra-thin dendrimer LB films. The electrical properties of the ultra-thin dendrimer LB films were investigated by studying the current-voltage characteristics of metal/dendrimer LB films/metal (MIM) structure. And rectifying behavior of the devices was occurred in applied field.
