As the rural areas have experienced the population reduction and the aging, the service level of public transit decreases. This study analyzes the effecting factor to user satisfaction of demand response transport(DRT) as alternative to rural public transit by the quantile regression that aims at estimating either the conditional median or other quantiles of the response variable. Jeonbuk Province tested DRT operations in Dongsang of Wanju County and Sannae of Jeongup City each in 2015. The user DRT satisfaction of Wanju was higher than one of Jeongup in basic statistics analysis. The difference in satisfaction between higher quantile and lower quntile of Wanju is smaller than one of Jeongupy as a result of quantile regression analysis. Also, Wanju DRT continues the second test operation of DRT as satisfaction from Ordinary Least Squares(OLS) close to higher satisfaction quantile.
Due to the rapid pace of low fertility and aging of Korea, population decline is rapidly progressing in the outskirts of the province and county. Demand for public transport is decreasing due to suburban population declines, while local government funding for maintenance of the bus system is expected to increase gradually. The government and municipalities are promoting the introduction of Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) in order to reduce the burden of financial support for buses while enhancing mobility of the residents in vulnerable areas. However, most DRTs in Korea have been operated mainly in the areas that are not provided with public transportation services. Although DRT is able to reduce the financial burden of local governments, it is not easy to be introduced because of the objection of the existing bus users. In this study, 11 out of 61 towns with poor public transportation services in Gyeongsangnam-Do were selected for the introduction of DRT to replace bus services by using village characteristics. The results of this study are expected to be used as a basis for decision making to use DRT instead of bus service for the burden of bus financing for local governments.
The main purpose of this paper is to estimate the impact of exchange rate and economic business activity on the passengers' demand for international transportation. The demand pattern depends upon the transport vehicles that the global passengers take. The global passengers' demand for transportation is modelled as exchange rate, industrial production and seasonal dummy variables. The seasonality is found in both water and air, but the former is far greater than the latter. All series span the period January 1990 to December 2008. The empirical results of this paper reveal that the income elasticity of sea transport is greater than that of air one, all of which are positive. The study also shows that the exchange rate has an significant impact on the demand for air transport, whereas it is insignificant in water transport. The impulse response function indicates that passengers increase steadily before peaking seven to eight months after the shocks to economic business activity and decline very slowly to its pre-shock level. The air passengers also respond negatively to the shocks in exchange rate and the impacts of exchange rate shock seem to decrease relatively slowly, while the water passengers respond positively after six months. The industrial production shocks remain above equilibrium for more than twenty four months, while the exchange rate shocks remain below equilibrium for more than twenty four months. Boosted by improved economic conditions worldwide, international tourism has recovered faster than expected from the impacts of the global financial crisis and economic recession of late 2008 and 2009. These facts suggest that the demand of global water transport has the high possibility of growing steadily and continuously.
In Korea, almost 700 industrial parks are under operation. Generally, industrial parks consist of national industrial parks and local industrial parks which are managed by a central government and by local governments respectively. The developing countries such as Korea, China and Vietnam etc. have constructed many industrial parks, which result in the change of land use pattern and also affect future trip demands. Therefore, in estimating traffic demands, it is very important to consider the industrial park development. This study aims to improve the methodology in estimating a freight trip generation rate with the data based on a nationwide commodity freight survey. The result showed that it is desirable to apply freight trip generation rate by the industry sector in estimating freight trip generations and using the production area of firm as an indicator. Specially, the reliability of the rates through a survey could be made sure because a sample rate based on firms in industrial parks was over 25% and the response rate was over 67%. The sample rate and response rate are very superior as compared to surveys conducted in many other countries. Because industrial parks have significant effects on forecasting transportation demand in pre-feasibility studies of transport and logistics projects, it is expected that the accuracy of freight trip demands would be improved through the results of this study.

DRT should have higher positive benefits to become the public transit than the current backcountry buses having demand deficiency and operation problems. The study examines the factors for activating DRT through importance and performance analysis(IPA) and applies the IPA gap theory to find relationship between the current buses and DRT in the mixed operation area. As a result, the operation area is the urgent improving factor and the next ones are transfer related factors, on-time arrival, safe driving, operation time and vehicles. According to the gap theory to activate DRT and reduce the current bus system, in the case that performance is smaller than importance, the performance of transfer, operating time and area, and vehicles should be up. In the case that performance is higher than importance, the performance of luggage space, vehicle clean, safe driving, operator kindness, transfer, operating elements, and fare should keep going.
In June 2016, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) in Japan delivered countermeasures against long-period ground motions caused by strong earthquakes along the Nankai trough. However, the countermeasures do not cover high-rise buildings equal to or shorter than 60 m in height, which do not require earthquake response analyses in the seismic design. Hence, in the present study, earthquake response analyses for such high-rise reinforced concrete (RC) buildings were performed under artificial ground motions assumed in the OS1 and OS2 regions to determine the base shear coefficients that satisfy a given safety demand. Furthermore, the results from the earthquake response analyses were estimated by the authors' proposed method based on the equivalent linearization method, showing good agreement and inspiring suggestions for more accurate and simplified estimations.
This study proposes an analysis methodology for air quality improvement effect of transport and environment policy that are used for mobile pollution sources. The methodology considers the changes of traffic of road transport sources and air pollutant emission, the changes of atmospheric dispersion of air pollutants and the effects on the health of local residents in response to policy implementation. Especially, the changes to traffic flow must be considered in evaluating the effects on atmospheric environment as it has a direct connection to the effects of the policy in this study. We used bottom-up approach (BUA) based on the travel demand model to reflect the changes of travel behavior in detail in response to the policy implementation compared to the top-down approach (TDA) when calculating the changes of emission level of road transport. We showed the applicability of the proposed analysis methodology through a policy scenario analysis, and the analysis method can be effectively applied to the cases in which travelers' behavior changes are expected.
Purpose: The paper aims to compare the effectiveness of the two types of transport demand management measures, namely pull measures and push measures. Method: Case studies of two metropolitan areas in the developing world assess the extent to which increases in fuel prices can contribute to reducing automobile use and increasing the public transport use and the potential of urban rail transit to cause mode shift from automobiles. Within the case studies, a stated response survey of current car users has been conducted for Cairo and an on-line survey of rail transit users in Algiers. Results: There was a major proportion of car drivers who intend to switch to public transport, depending on the range of fuel prices in Cairo and a considerable proportion of rail users who have switched from automobiles resulting in a measurable reduction in CO2 emissions in Algiers. Conclusion: Investments in urban rail can be highly effective where there are demands for better public transport, but this type of pull measures can be much more effective if combined with push measures which significantly raise driving costs.

Recently, improving public transport service at disabled people has emerged as a social issue in rural areas. By improving expensive and inefficient existing operating system, the rural bus have to change a personalized service. Under these circumstances, government and local governments are promoting the introduction of DRT(Demand response transport). DRT system is intended to promote the user's convenience. But, until now, in-depth research on the operating costs for the introduction of DRT is not well known. This study aims to look at changes in number of vehicle and operating costs before and after introduction of DRT. The results are as follows. Even though introducing DRT, total number of vehicles increases because it does not reduce the existing number of vehicles. And this study estimated to about 5 to 12 percent of the increase in the operating cost comparing before introduction of DRT. Therefore, The introduction of DRT in rural areas is a need to set the exact purpose as promote transportation convenience or cost efficiency.

As smartphones spread and ICT technologies develop, taxi services have changed from hovering to platform-based calls and reservations. This has improved the mobility and accessibility of taxi users but caused problems, such as digital observing (no-responses to calls) for either short-distance services or services during the peak-demand periods. Digital Observing means ignoring and not accepting calls when they occur, which require improvement. Therefore, this study aims to derive measures to mitigate discrepancies in taxi supply and demand by adjusting the expected revenue of each taxi service using reinforcement learning based on the Taxi operation data. The results confirmed that the average complete response rate to calls would increase from 50.29% to 54.24% when incentives are applied, and an improvement of 5.86% can be achieved in short-distance sections of less than 5,000 won incentives. It is expected that the improvement will increase profitability for drivers, reduce the waiting time for passengers, and improve satisfaction with taxi services overall.
