  • This paper presents multibit Sigma-Delta ADC using Leslie-Singh Structure to Improve nonlinearity of feedback loop. 4-bit flash ADC for multibit Quantization in Sigma Delta modulator offers the following advantages such as lower quantization noise, more accurate white-noise level and more stability over single quantization. For the feedback paths consisting of DAC, the DAC element should have a high matching requirement in order to maintain the linearity performance which can be obtained by the modulator with a multibit quantizer. Thus a Sigma-Delta ADC usually adds the dynamic element matching digital circuit within feedback loop. It occurs complexity of Sigma-Delta Circuit and increase of power dissipation. In this paper using the Leslie-Singh Structure for improving nonliearity of ADC. This structure operate at low oversampling ratio but is difficult to achieve high resolution. So in this paper propose improving loop filter for single-bit feedback multi-bit quantization Sigma-Delta ADC. It obtained 94.3dB signal to noise ratio over 615kHz bandwidth, and 62mW power dissipation at a sampling frequency of 19.6MHz. This Sigma Delta ADC is fabricated in 0.25um CMOS technology with 2.5V supply voltage.

  • Objectives : The aim of this study is to examine the effects of acupuncture at PC7(Daereung) on normal human EEG using power spectral analysis. Methods : EEG power spectrum exhibits site-specific and state-related differences in specific frequency bands. In this study, power spectrum was used as a measure of complexity. 30 subjects (16 males and 14 females; averaged age = 23.4 years) were engaged with thirty channel EEG study. Results : In $\alpha$(alpha) band, the power values at Fp1, Fp2, F7, F8 channels(p<0.05) during PC7 treatment were significantly decreased. But, the power values at Fz channel(p<0.05) during non-acupoint treatment was significantly decreased. In $\beta$(beta) band, the power values at Fp1, Fp2 channels(p<0.05) during PC7 treatment were significantly decreased. But, the power values at Fz channel(p<0.05) during non-acupoint treatment was significantly decreased and at F8, TCP2 channels(p<0.05) during non-acupoint treatment were increased. In $\theta$(theta) band, the power values at Fp1, Fp2, F7, F8 channels(p<0.05) during PC7 treatment were significantly decreased. But, the power values at Fz channel(p<0.05) during non-acupoint treatment was significantly decreased. In $\delta$(delta) band, the power values at Fp1, Fp2, F7, Fz, F8 channels (p<0.05) during PC7 treatment were significantly decreased. But, the power values at Fz channel (p<0.05) during non-acupoint treatment was significantly decreased. $\alpha/\beta$ values during PC7 treatment were decreased. $\beta/\theta$ values during PC7 treatment were decreased. Conclusion : These results suggest that acupuncture at PC7 induce the change on $\alpha$(alpha), $\beta$(beta), $\theta$ (theta), $\delta$(delta) wave values being decreased and and bothe $\alpha/\beta$ and $\beta/\theta$ values being decreased respectively. This is considered that acupuncture at PC7 affects the activity of cerebral cortex and endocrine system.

  • This paper describes the electrical characteristics of Nomex paper employed as an insulating material of distribution transformers. The relative permittivities(dielectric constants) and $tan{\delta}$(dielectric dissipation factors) were measured as a dielectric characteristic and the partial discharge inception voltages(PDIVs) and breakdown voltages were also measured as an electrical strength characteristic of Nomex paper. As a result, the permittivity and $tan{\delta}$ of Nomex paper showed temperature and frequency dependency. Especially, the permittivity of 0.18mm Nomex paper was 2.4 according to the ASTM condition. And the PDIVs and breakdown voltages were, almost linearly increased with the thickness of Nomex paper and its electrical strength was better than conventional kraft paper.

  • The various degradation phenomena, such as the evolution of gases, tan $\delta$, moisture content and total acid number in power transformer insulation oil, have been measured and analyzed. Mineral oil has been degraded at laboratory by the forced thermal stress of $60^{\circ}C$ and $90^{\circ}C$ respectively. Thermal aging oil has been degraded about 17, 34, 72 days. Also, we extracted insulation oil from working transformers. We measured gases dissolved in samples, tan $\delta$, moisture content, total acid number. Activation energy and resistivity is calculated from them. It is found that gases and tan $\delta$ increases as partial discharge and total acid number increases and that conductivity of the sample increases as activation energy increases.

  • Conducted electromagnetic interference (EMI) from switch mode power supplies (SMPS) has become a major problem due to the proliferation of these devices employing dc-dc converters using standard pulse width modulation (PWM). In this paper, we proposed the sigma-delta modulation $({\sum}{\Delta}M)$ as an alternative switching technique to reduce the conducted EMI in SMPS. A comparative investigation on conducted EMI generated by PWM and ${\sum}{\Delta}M$ techniques are experimentally performed on a 300W Boost converter.

  • A high-Tc superconducting cable(HTS cable) is expected as an underground power line supplying the electrical power the densely populated city in future. The electrical insulation is very important for develop HTS cable system because it is operated a high voltage and in cryogenic temperature. We manufactured a mini-model cable and measured a tan$\delta$ of cable using schering bridge. The tan$\delta$ of PPLP was lower than that of Tyvek and Kraft at a given temperature, the tan$\delta$ of PPLP was 1.16${\times}$10-3. According to the increase of electric stress the tan$\delta$ increased because partial discharge occurred inside butt gap of mini-model cable. However, the tan$\delta$ decreased by increase of liquid nitrogen pressure. This reason is thought by decrease of part discharge between butt gap by increase of liquid nitrogen pressure.

  • In this paper, a $145{\mu}W$, 87dB SNR, Low power 3rd order Sigma-Delta Modulator with Op-amp sharing is proposed. Conventional architecture with analog path and digital path is improved by adding a delayed feed -forward path for disadvantages that coefficient value of the first integrator is small. Proposed architecture has a larger coefficient value of the first integrator to remove the digital path. Power consumption of proposed architecture using op-amp sharing is lower than conventional architecture. Simulation results for the proposed SDM designed in $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology with power supply voltage 1.8V, signal bandwidth 20KHz and sampling frequency 2.8224MHz shows SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio) of 87dB, the power consumption of $145{\mu}W$.

  • This paper proposes the 2nd-order SDSDM (Space Dithered Sigma-Delta Modulation) for performance improvement of a buck converter. The PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) has a drawback in that power spectrum tends to be concentrated around the switching frequency. The resulting harmonic spikes cause a EMI(Electromagnetic Interference) and switching loss in semiconductor, etc. The 1st-order SDSDM scheme is a kind of DSDM for reducing these harmonic spikes. In this scheme, a switching frequency is spread through random dither generator placed on input part. In experimental result, the proposed 2nd-order SDSDM is confirmed by applying to a buck converter.

  • Delta-form-based methods for solving high order spatial discretization schemes are introduced into the reactor SN transport equation. Due to the nature of the delta-form, the final numerical accuracy only depends on the residuals on the right side of the discrete equations and have nothing to do with the parts on the left side. Therefore, various high order spatial discretization methods can be easily adopted for only the transport term on the right side of the discrete equations. Then the simplest step or other robust schemes can be adopted to discretize the increment on the left hand side to ensure the good iterative convergence. The delta-form framework makes the sweeping and iterative strategies of various high order spatial discretization methods be completely the same with those of the traditional SN codes, only by adding the residuals into the source terms. In this paper, the flux limiter method and weighted essentially non-oscillatory scheme are used for the verification purpose to only show the advantages of the introduction of delta-form-based solving methods and other high order spatial discretization methods can be also easily extended to solve the SN transport equations. Numerical solutions indicate the correctness and effectiveness of delta-form-based solving method.

  • A low power(9 mW) highly-digitized 2.4 GHz receiver for sensor network applications(IEEE 802.15.4 LR-WPAN) is realized by a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process. We adopted a novel receiver architecture adding an intermediate frequency (IF) level detection scheme to a low-power complex fifth-order continuous-time(CT) bandpass L:tl modulator in order to digitalize the receiver. By the continuous-time bandpass architecture, the proposed $\Sigma\Delta$ modulator requires no additional anti-aliasing filter in front of the modulator. Using the IF detector, the achieved dynamic range(DR) of the over-all system is 95 dB at a sampling rate of 64 MHz. This modulator has a bandwidth of 2 MHz centered at 2 MHz. The power consumption of this receiver is 9.0 mW with a 1.8 V power supply.
