The adaptive coded modulation (ACM) is a promissing way to provide a substantial improvement in spectral efficiency for slow fading channels. The basic idea is to adapt system functional-ity such as modulation, coding, information rate, and transmission power to varying channel conditions. In this work, the potential of adaptive coded modulation is investigated using cut-off rate anal-ysis in a unified way and using computer simulation. The anal-ysis includes various effects of fading channels such as feedback delay and channel prediction error. It was shown that the adaptive coded modulation can provide several folds of increase in spectral efficiency compared to a fixed coded-modulation system employing QPSK when channel varies slowly.
Measurement of network traffic have shown that the self-similarity is a ubiquitous phenomenon spanning across diverse network environments. In previous work, we have explored the feasibility of exploiting the long-range correlation structure in a self-similar traffic for the congestion control. we show that a multiple time scale TCP endows the underlying feedback control with proactivity by bridging the uncertainty gap associated with reactive controls which is exacerbated by the high delay-bandwidth product in broadband wide area networks. Third, we investigate the influence of the three traffic control dimensions-tracking ability, connection duration, and fairness-on performance.

본 논문에서는 ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) 망의 ABR(Available Bit-Rate) 서비스를 위한 폭주 제어 기법 내에서 사용되는 스위치 알고리즘을 제안한다.

Traditional autopilot design requires an accurate aerodynamic model and relies on a gain schedule to account for system nonlinearities. This paper presents the control architecture applied to a dynamic model inversion at a single flight condition with an on-line neural network (NN) in order to regulate errors caused by approximate inversion. This eliminates the need for an extensive design process and accurate aerodynamic data. The simulation results using a developed full nonlinear 6 degree of freedom model are presented. This paper also presents the stability evaluation for control systems to which NNs were applied. Although feedback can accommodate uncertainty to meet system performance specifications, uncertainty can also affect the stability of the control system. The importance of robustness has long been recognized and stability margins were developed to quantify it. However, the traditional stability margin techniques based on linear control theory can not be applied to control systems upon which a representative non-linear control method, such as NNs, has been applied. This paper presents an alternative stability margin technique for NNs applied to control systems based on the system responses to an inserted gain multiplier or time delay element.
The domination of the Internet by TCP-based services has spawned many efforts to provide high network utilization with low loss and delay in a simple and scalable manner. Active queue management (AQM) algorithms attempt to achieve these goals by regulating queues at bottleneck links to provide useful feedback to TCP sources. While many AQM algorithms have been proposed, most suffer from instability, require careful configuration of nonintuitive control parameters, or are not practical because of slow response to dynamic traffic changes. In this paper, we propose a new AQM algorithm, hybrid random early detection (HRED), that combines the more effective elements of recent algorithms with a random early detection (RED) core. HRED maps instantaneous queue length to a drop probability, automatically adjusting the slope and intercept of the mapping function to account for changes in traffic load and to keep queue length within the desired operating range. We demonstrate that straightforward selection of HRED parameters results in stable operation under steady load and rapid adaptation to changes in load. Simulation and implementation tests confirm this stability, and indicate that overall performances of HRED are substantially better than those of earlier AQM algorithms. Finally, HRED control parameters provide several intuitive approaches to trading between required memory, queue stability, and response time.
In this paper, we present a trellis-based blind channel estimation and equalization technique coupling two kinds of adaptive Viterbi algorithms. First, the initial blind channel estimation is accomplished by incorporating the list parallel Viterbi algorithm with the least mean square (LMS) updating approach. In this operation, multiple trellis mappings are preserved simultaneously and ranked in terms of path metrics. Equivalently, multiple channel estimates are maintained and updated once a single symbol is received. Second, the best channel estimate from the above operation will be adopted to set up the whole trellis. The conventional adaptive Viterbi algorithm is then applied to detect the signal and further update the channel estimate alternately. A small delay is introduced for the symbol detection and the decision feedback to smooth the noise impact. An automatic switch between the above two operations is also proposed by exploiting the evolution of path metrics and the linear constraint inherent in the trellis mapping. Simulation has shown an overall excellent performance of the proposed scheme in terms of mean square error (MSE) for channel estimation, robustness to the initial channel guess, computational complexity, and channel equalization.
