Microstructural features and their related mechanical property changes in the 309L cladding and the heat affected zone (HAZ) of SA508 cl.3 steel were investigated through the use of TEM, tensile and small punch (SP) tests. The specimens were irradiated at 563 K up to the neutron fluences of $5.79{\times}10^{19}n/cm^2$ (>1MeV). The microstructure of the clad was mainly composed of a fcc ${\gamma}-phase$, a low percentage of bcc ${\delta}-ferrite$, and a brittle ${\sigma}-phase$. Along the weld fusion line there formed a heavy carbide precipitation with a width of $20{\sim}40{\mu}m$, showing preferential cracking during plastic deformation. The yield stress and ductile-to-brittle transition temperature (DBTT) of the irradiated clads increased. The origin of the hardening and the shift of the DBTT are discussed in terms of the irradiation-produced defect clusters of a fine size and brittle ${\sigma}-phase$.
Concrete is one of the principal materials for the structure and it is widely used all over the world. but it shows extremely brittle failure under bending and tensile load. Recently to improve such a poor property. High Performance Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Composites (HPFRCC) have been developed. and it are defined by an ultimate strength higher than their first cracking strength and the formation of multiple cracking during the inelastic deformation process. This study is to develop the hybrid HPFRCC with high ductility and strain capacity in bending and tensile load. and the three-point bending test on hybrid HPRFCC reinforced with micro and macro fibers is carried out in this paper. As the results of the bending tests. hybrid HPFRCCs reinforced with PVA40+SF and PVA100+PVA660 showed the high ultimate bending stress, multiple cracks and displacement hardening under bending load.
The first part of this two-part paper discussed some basic considerations on bond strength and its effect on strain localization and plastic deformation capacity of cracked structural concrete, and analytically evaluated the impacts of the hardening behavior of reinforcing steel and concrete quality on the basis of the Tension Chord Model. This second part assesses the impacts of the most frequently encountered construction details of existing concrete structures which may not satisfy current design code requirements: bar ribbing, bar spacing, and concrete cover thickness. It further evaluates the impacts of the additional structure-specific features bar diameter and crack spacing. It concludes with some considerations on the application of the findings in practice and an outlook on future research needs.
In this study, microstructure and mechanical properties for the friction stir welded 2519Al-T87 alloy of the thickness of 38.8mm were studied using DSC, OM, SEM and micro hardness tester. DSC analysis show that GP Zone, ${\theta}'$ and $\theta$ phases in upper part and ${\theta}'$ and $\theta$ phase in lower part of the FSW zone. Recrystallized large grains are observed in HAZ, and elongated small and large grain in the TMAZ. In SZ, very small grains forms by high plastic deformation and heat from friction by tool and specimen.

This paper presents the mix composition and production method that was applied to an extruded Ductile Fiber Reinforced Cement Composite (DFRCC) panel, as well as the flexural performance, represented by deformation hardening behavior with multiple cracking. The effect of fiber distribution characteristics on the flexural behavior of the panel is also addressed. In order to demonstrate the fiber distribution effect, a series of experiments and analyses, including a sectional image analysis and micromechanical analysis, was performed. From the experimental and analysis results, it was found that the flexural behavior of the panel was highly affected by a slight variation in the mix composition. In terms of the average fiber orientation, the fiber distribution was found to be similar to that derived under the assumption of a two-dimensional random distribution, irrespective of the mix composition. In contrast, the probability density function for the fiber orientation was measured to vary depending on the mix composition.
This paper presents experimental and numerical analyses of the thermomechanical behaviour that takes place in SAE1020 mild steel cylindrical specimens during the conventional tensile test. A set of experiments has been carried out in order to obtain the stress-strain curve and the diameter evolution at the neck which allow, in turn, to derive the elastic and hardening parameters characterizing the material response. Temperature evolutions have also been measured for a high strain rate situation. Moreover, a finite element large strain thermoelastoplasticity-based formulation is proposed and used to simulate the deformation process during the whole test. Some important aspects of this formulation are discussed. Finally, the results provided by the simulation are experimentally validated.
Refinements of classical theories for entangled or crosslinked polymeric systems have led to incommensurable models for rubber networks and polymer melts, contrary to experimental evidence, which suggests a great deal of similarity. Uniaxial elongation and compression data of linear and branched polymer melts as well as of crosslinked rubbers were analyzed with respect to their nonlinear strain measure. This was found to be the result of two contributions: (1) affine orientation of network strands, and (2) isotropic strand extension. Network strand extension is caused by an increasing restriction of lateral movement of polymer chains due to deformation, and is modelled by a molecular stress function which in the tube concept of Doi and Edwards is the inverse of the relative tube diameter. Up to moderate strains, $f^2$ is found to be linear in the average stretch for melts as well as for rubbers, which corresponds to a constant tube volume. At large strains, rubbers show maximum extensibility, while melts show maximum molecular tension. This maximum value of the molecular stress function governs the ultimate magnitude of the strain-hardening effect of linear and long-chain branched polymer melts in extensional flows.

It has been known that acid-resistant concretes on the liquid glass basis have high porosity (up to 18${\sim}$20%), low strength and insufficient water resistance. Therefore they can not be used as materials for load-bearing structural elements. Significant increasing of silicate matrix strength and density was carried out by incorporation of special liquid organic alkali-soluble silicate additives, which block of superficial pores and reduces concrete shrinkage deformation. It was demonstrated that introduction of tetrafurfuryloxisilane additive sharply increases strength, durability and shock resistance of silicate polymer concrete in aggressive media. This effect is attributable to hardening of contacts between silicate binder gel globes and modification of alkaline component owing to "inoculation" of the furan radical. The optimal concrete composition with the increased strength, chemical resistance in the aggressive environments, density and crack resistance was obtained.

The rail/wheel rolling contact affects the microstructure in the surface layer of rail. Recently. continuum damage mechanics allows us to describe the microprocesses involved during the straining of materials and structures at the macroscale. Elastic and plastic strains. the corresponding hardening effects are generally accepted to be represented by global continuum variables. The purpose of continuum damage mechanics is to introduce the possibility of describing the coupling effects between damage processes and the stress-strain behavior of materials. In this study. the continuum damage mechanics caused by elastic deformation was briefly introduced and applied to the fatigue damage of the rails under the condition of cyclic loading. The material parameter for damage analysis was first determined so that it could reproduce the life span under the compressive loading in the vicinity of fatigue limit. Some numerical studies have been conducted to show the validity of the present computational mechanics analysis.
In this paper, the strain localization of voided ductile material has been analyzed by nonlocal plasticity formulation in which the yield strength not only depends on an equivalent plastic strain measure (hardening parameter), but also on the Laplacian thereof. The gradient terms in yield criterion show an important role on modeling strain-softening phenomena of material. The influence of the mesh size on the elastic -plastic deformation behavior and the effect of the characteristic length parameter for localization prediction are also investigated. The proposed nonlocal plasticity shows that the load -strain curves converge to one curve. Results using nonlocal plasticity also exhibit the dependence of mesh size is much less sensitivity than that for a corresponding local plasticity formulation.
