  • The impulse between launch vehicle and atmosphere can generate a lot of noise and vibration during the process of launching a satellite. Structurally, the electronic equipment of a satellite consists of an aluminum case containing PCB. Each PCB has resistors and IC. Noise and vibration of the wide frequency band are transferred to the inside of fairing, subsequently creating vibration of the electronic equipment of the satellite. In this situation, random vibration can cause malfunctioning of the electronic equipment of the device. Furthermore, when the frequency of random vibration meets with natural frequency of PCB, fatigue fracture may occur in the part of solder joint. The launching environment, thus, needs to be carefully considered when designing the electronic equipment of a satellite. In general, the safety of the electronic equipment is supposed to be related to the natural frequency, shapes of mode and dynamic deflection of PCB in the electronic equipment. Structural vibration analysis of PCB and its electronic components can be performed using either FEM or vibration test. In this study, the natural frequency and dynamic deflection of PCB are measured by FEM, and the safety of the electronic components of PCB is evaluated according to the results. This study presents a unique method for finite element modeling and analysis of PCB and its electronic components. The results of FEA are verified by vibration test. The method proposed herein may be applicable to various designs ranging from the electronic equipments of a satellite to home electronics.

  • This study is focused on modeling to predict the behavior of two-way RC slabs. A new finite element model will be presented to analyze the nonlinear behavior of RC slabs. The numerical approach is based on the p-version degenerate shell element including theory of anisotropic laminated composites, theory of materially and geometrically nonlinear plates. In the nonlinear formulation of this model, the total Lagrangian formulation is adopted with large deflections and moderate rotations being accounted for in the sense of von Karman hypothesis. The material model is based on the Kuper's yield criterion, hardening rule, and crushing condition. The validity of the proposed p-version nonlinear RC finite element model is demonstrated through the load-deflection curves and the ultimate loads. It is shown that the proposed model is able to adequately predict the deflection and ultimate load of two-way slabs with respect to steel arrangements and steel ratios.

  • This article discusses the dynamic response of Bernoulli-Euler straight beam with angular elastic supports subjected to moving load with variable velocity. A new engineering approach for determination of the dynamic effect from the moving load on the stressed and strained state of the beam has been developed. A dynamic coefficient, a ratio of the dynamic to the static deflection of the beam, has been defined on the base of an infinite geometrical absolutely summable series. Generalization of the R. Willis' equation has been carried out: generalized boundary conditions have been introduced; the generalized elastic curve's equation on the base of infinite trigonometric series method has been obtained; the forces of inertia from normal and Coriolis accelerations and reduced beam mass have been taken into account. The influence of the boundary conditions and kinematic characteristics of the moving load on the dynamic coefficient has been investigated. As a result, the dynamic stressed and strained state has been obtained as a multiplication of the static one with the dynamic coefficient. The developed approach has been compared with a finite element one for a concrete engineering case and thus its authenticity has been proved.

  • This study investigates the behavior of ultra-high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) with hybrid macro-micro steel and macro steel-polypropylene (PP) fibers. Compression, direct and indirect tension tests were carried out on cubic and cylindrical, dogbone and prismatic specimens, respectively. Three types of macro steel fibers, i.e., round crimped (RC), crimped (C), and hooked (H) were combined with micro steel (MS) and PP fibers in overall ratios of 2% by volume. Additionally, numerical analyses were performed to validate the test results. Parameters studied included, fracture energy, tensile strength, compressive strength, flexural strength, and residual strength. Tests showed that replacing PP fibers with MS significantly improves all parameters particularly flexural strength (17.38 MPa compared to 37.71 MPa). Additionally, the adopted numerical approach successfully captured the flexural load-deflection response of experimental beams. Lastly, the proposed regression model for the flexural load-deflection curve compared very well with experimental results, as evidenced by its coefficient of correlation (R2) of over 0.90.

  • The studies on the applications of waste materials in concrete have been increased in Iraq since 2003. In this research, rubber wastes that resulting from scrapped tires was added to concrete mix with presence of superplasticizer. The mechanical properties of concrete and workability of concrete mixes were studied. The used rubber were ranging in size from (2-4) mm with addition percentages of (0.1% and 0.2%) by volume of concrete. The results of mechanical properties of concrete show that rubber enhance the ductility, and compressive and tensile strength compared to concrete without it. Also, the flexural behavior of hybrid strength concrete beams (due to using rubber at the bottom or top layer of section) was investigated. The rubber concrete located at bottom layer gives higher values of ultimate loads and deflections compared to the beam with top layer. A similar response to fiber concrete beam (all section contains 0.1% rubber) was recognized. Finite element modeling in three dimensions was carried for the tested beams using ABAQUS software. The ultimate loads and deflection obtained from experimental and finite elements are in good agreements with average difference of 8% in ultimate load and 20% in ultimate deflection.

  • This paper analyse the mechanical characteristics of geometrical and material nonlinearity behavior of cylindrical shell roofs subjected to a concentrated load. The shell elements were modeled using 'NISA2016' software as 3D general shell element and 3D composite shell element. The 3D shell element includes deformation due to bending, membrane, membrane-bending coupling and shear perpendicular to the grain effects is suited for modeling moderately thick or thin general shells and laminated composite shells. And The 3D composite shell element consists of a number of layers of perfectly bonded anisotropic and orthotropic materials. The purpose of this research is to analysis the load-deflection curves considering the combined geometric and material nonlinearity of cylindrical shells. In a shallowed cylindrical shell, snap-through curve can be found.

  • For long-span bridges with a structural health monitoring (SHM) system, environmental temperature-driven responses are proved to be a main component in measurements. However, anomalous structural behavior may be hidden incomplicated recorded data. In order to receive reliable assessment of structural performance, it is important to study therelationship between temperature and monitoring data. This paper presents an application of the cointegration based methodology to detect anomalies that may be masked by temperature effects and then forecast the temperature-induced deflection (TID) of long-span suspension bridges. Firstly, temperature effects on girder deflection are analyzed with fieldmeasured data of a suspension bridge. Subsequently, the cointegration testing procedure is conducted. A threshold-based anomaly detection framework that eliminates the influence of environmental temperature is also proposed. The cointegrated residual series is extracted as the index to monitor anomaly events in bridges. Then, wavelet separation method is used to obtain TIDs from recorded data. Combining cointegration theory with autoregressive moving average (ARMA) model, TIDs for longspan bridges are modeled and forecasted. Finally, in-situ measurements of Xihoumen Bridge are adopted as an example to demonstrate the effectiveness of the cointegration based approach. In conclusion, the proposed method is practical for actual structures which ensures the efficient management and maintenance based on monitoring data.

  • The advancement of theoretical research has numerous challenges, particularly with regard to the modeling of structures, in contrast to experimental investigation of the mechanical behavior of complex systems. The main objective of this investigation is to provide an analytical analysis of the static problem of a new generation of composite structure, namely, functionally graded FG graphene reinforced composite GRC coated plates/shells. A complex power law function is used to define the material's graduation. Investigations are conducted on Hardcore and Softcore coated FG plates/shells. The virtual work approach is used to perform the equilibrium equations, which are then solved using the Galerkin technique to account for various boundary conditions. With reliable published articles, the presented solution is validated. The effects of hardcore and softcore distributions, gradation indexes, and boundary conditions on the buckling, bending deflection and stresses of FG GRC-coated shells are presented in detail. Obtained results and the developed procedure are supportive for design and manufacturing of FG-GRC coated plates/shells in several fields and industries e.g., aerospace, automotive, marine, and biomedical implants.
