To understand how Bursaphelenchus xylophilus kills pine trees, the differences between the effects of B. xylophilus and B. mucronatus on pine trees are usually compared. In this study, the migration and attacking ability of a non-pathogenic B. mucronatus in Pinus thunbergii were investigated. The distribution of B. mucronatus and the number of dead epithelial cells resulting from inoculation were compared with those of the pathogenic B. xylophilus. Although B. mucronatus is non-pathogenic in pines, its distribution pattern in P. thunbergii was the same as that of B. xylophilus. We therefore concluded that the non-pathogenicity of B. mucronatus could not be attributed to its migration ability. The sparse and sporadic attacking pattern of B. mucronatus was also the same as that of B. xylophilus. However, the number and area of the dead epithelial cells in pine cuttings inoculated with B. mucronatus were smaller than in those cuttings inoculated with B. xylophilus, meaning that the attacking ability of B. mucronatus is weaker than that of B. xylophilus. Therefore, we concluded that the weaker attacking ability of B. mucronatus might be the factor responsible for the non-pathogenicity.

This paper presents a Bluetooth and pedestrian dead reckoning (PDR)-based indoor fusion localization approach (BtPDR) using smartphones. A Bluetooth and PDR-based indoor fusion localization approach can localize the initial position of a smartphone with the received signal strength (RSS) of Bluetooth. While a smartphone is moving, BtPDR can track its position by fusing the localization results of PDR and Bluetooth RSS. In addition, BtPDR can adaptively modify the parameters of PDR. The contributions of BtPDR include: a Bluetooth RSS-based Probabilistic Voting (BRPV) localization mechanism, a probabilistic voting-based Bluetooth RSS and PDR fusion method, and a heuristic search approach for reducing the complexity of BRPV. The experiment results in a real scene show that the average positioning error is < 2m, which is considered adequate for indoor location-based service applications. Moreover, compared to the traditional PDR method, BtPDR improves the location accuracy by 42.6%, on average. Compared to state-of-the-art Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) fingerprint + PDR-based fusion indoor localization approaches, BtPDR has better positioning accuracy and does not need the same offline workload as a fingerprint algorithm.
The full-bridge inverter, widely used for single-phase photovoltaic grid-connected applications, presents a leakage current issue. Therefore, an AC bypass branch is introduced to overcome this challenge. Nevertheless, existing modulation strategies entail drawbacks that should be addressed. One is the zero-crossing distortion (ZCD) of the AC current caused by neglecting the AC filter inductor voltage. Another is that the system cannot deliver reactive power because the AC bypass branch switches at the power frequency. To address these problems, this work proposes an optimized hybrid modulation strategy. To reduce ZCD, the phase angle of the inverter output voltage reference is shifted, thereby compensating for the neglected leading angle. To generate the reactive power, the interval of the negative power output is calculated using the power factor. In addition, the freewheeling switch is kept on when power is flowing into the grid and commutates at a high frequency when power is fed back to the DC side. In this manner, the dead-time insertion in the high-frequency switching area is minimized. Finally, the performances of the proposed modulation strategy and traditional strategies are compared on a universal prototype inverter. Experimental results validate the theoretical analysis.

This paper describes the implementation of a precise underwater navigation solution using a multi-sensor fusion technique based on USBL, DVL, and IMU measurements. To implement this precise underwater navigation solution, three strategies are chosen. The first involves heading alignment angle identification to enhance the performance of a standalone dead-reckoning algorithm. In the second, the absolute position is found quickly to prevent the accumulation of integration error. The third one is the introduction of an effective outlier rejection algorithm. The performance of the developed algorithm was verified with experimental data acquired by the deep-sea ROV, Hemire, in the East-sea during a survey of a methane gas seepage area at a 1,500 m depth.
This paper describes a formulation to predict optimum post-tensioning forces and cable dimensioning for self-anchored cable-stayed suspension bridges. The analysis is developed with respect to both dead and live load configurations, taking into account design constrains concerning serviceability and ultimate limit states. In particular, under dead loads, the analysis is developed with the purpose to calculate the post-tensioning cable forces to achieve minimum deflections for both girder and pylons. Moreover, under live loads, for each cable elements, the lowest required cross-section area is determined, which verifies prescriptions, under ultimate or serviceability limit states, on maximum allowable stresses and bridge deflections. The final configuration is obtained by means of an iterative procedure, which leads to a progressive definition of the stay, hanger and main cable characteristics, concerning both post-tensioning cable stresses and cross-sections. The design procedure is developed in the framework of a FE modeling, by using a refined formulation of the bridge components, taking into account of geometric nonlinearities involved in the bridge components. The results demonstrate that the proposed method can be easily utilized to predict the cable dimensioning also in the framework of long span bridge structures, in which typically more complexities are expected in view of the large number of variables involved in the design analysis.
It is usually difficult for dual-active-bridge (DAB) dc-dc converters to operate efficiently at light loads. This paper presents an in-depth analysis of a DAB with triple-phase-shift (TPS) control under the light load condition to overcome this problem. A kind of operating mode which is suitable for light load operation is analyzed in this paper. First, an analysis of the zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) constraints for the DAB converter has been carried out and a reasonable dead-band setting method has been proposed. Secondly, the basic operating characteristics of the converter are analyzed. Third, under the condition of satisfying the ZVS constraints, both the reactive power and the root mean square (RMS) value of the current are simultaneously minimized and a particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is employed to analyze and solve this optimization problem. Lastly, both simulations and experiments are carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. The experimental results show that the converter can effectively achieve ZVS and improved efficiency.

In this study, the behavior of breasting dolphin caused by the maximum wave height in the coastal area of Incheon has been investigated. The dynamic deflection, shear stress and moment of pile are analyzed using the coefficient of horizontal subgrade reaction resulted from loading tests for different DWT (Dead Weight Tonnage). The dynamic characteristics of pile in accumulated and dredged soils show almost the same pattern. It is shown that the resistance of dolphin to external load increases as the diameter of pile increases. The bettered pile dolphin is more than 10 times stable than the vertical pile type based on the study of dynamic characteristics of dolphin.
Objectives: To demonstrate effective diagnostic method and proper management of recurrent thyroid cancer through to compare treatment and surveillance of $I^{131}$ scanning detected recurrence and clinically detected recurrence. Material and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed clinical information about 46 patients who has recurrent thyroid cancer of 298 patients who have been primarily operated due to thyroid cancer in PMC at the over 10 years between 1986 and 1995. We examine incidence of recurrence due to pathologic types, site of recurrence, disease free interval, detection method of recurrence, and also treatment and progression of recurrence. A patients in which the clinical examination was entirely negative and the $I^{131}$ scan demonstrated either a new area of $I^{131}$ uptake or an increased area of concentration, compared to the previous scan, was designated as a recurrence detected by $I^{131}$ scan only. Recurrences that were obviously by physical examination or chest x-ray, etc were considered clinically detected recurrence, regardless of the the results of the thyroid scan. Results: Mean of disease tree interval(DFI) is 36months. When mean DFI of $I^{131}$ scan detected recurrence is 28months, whereas mean DFI of clinically detected recurrence is 47months. In statiscal analysis, p-value is 0.043 as significantly. In progression of recurrent patient, NED is 28case, AWD is Sease, DOD is 13case. Among the 13case, scan detected recurrence is lease of 20 patients(5%), whereas clinically detected recurrence is l2case of 26 patient(46%). In statiscal analysis, p-value is 0.003 as significantly. Conclusion: Early detection of the recurrent thyroid cancer by $I^{131}$ scanning leads to good progress compare with detection by clinical examination. This experiment was carried out to select for the varieties with high environmental adaptability in mountainous pastures of Taekwalyong area, and the evaluation was based on the data of varietal differences of dry matter production and yield components in Tall fescue cutting at various developmental stages in growth period of autumn. The results were summarized as follows; 1. The varieties with high number of tillers per plant(NT) showed a high dry weight of plant(DW) in all autumn cuttings. These varieties(Barce1 and Fuego) may be more adaptable to mountainous pastures of Taekwalyon area than other varieties. 2. The number of tillers per plant(NT) was significantly positive correlated with dry weight of plant (DW), but dry weight of tiller(WT) was not significantly correlated with dry weight of plant(DW) in all autumn cuttings. 3. The multiple regression equations of autumn cutting stages with mean dry weight of plant(DW) and number of tillers per plant(NT) can be used to estimate the cutting time to obtain maximum mean dry weight of plant(DW) and the highest number of tillers per plant(NT). The maximum mean dry weight of plant(DW) and the highest number of tillers per plant(NT) was estimated at the time of 21 Oct. and 26 Oct, respectively. 4. Dead leaves tended to increase greatly after the 2nd cutting(l4 Oct.) in growth period of autumn. 5. The number of tillers per plant(NT) was an important yield component before tiller density achieved equilibrium, but dry weight of tiller(WT, including dead leaves) was of most significant as a yield determinant after maximum tiller density reached in growth period of autumn.
Old-growth development for two different second-growth northern hardwood stands in the North America was evaluated with a computer simulation. The two sites compared were a representative 77 year old even-aged stand (Phelps) with heavy dominance by pole size classes, and an older uneven-aged stand with some existing old-growth structural features (Wildcat Creek). Each stand was evaluated in its natural progress toward old-growth structural conditions with stand structure, size distribution of live and dead trees, percent stand area in canopy gaps, and visual canopy profile and overhead view. The Phelps stand reached the minimum structural threshold for the old-growth stage after 74 years. Only 13 years was required for Wildcat Creek stand to reach the old-growth threshold. During the 45 years of simulation, the diameter distributions of both stands became broader and flatter. DBH distribution of dead trees had a general descending trend over the simulation in each stand. Gaps at Phelps were typically small after 45 years. Gap area at Wildcat Creek was somewhat more constant over the 45 years of simulation but a big gap was formed because of the death of several adjacent large trees.
