  • Thermal decomposition of the uranyl phosphate mineral phase meta-ankoleite (KUO2PO4·3H2O) has been considered in relation to high temperature thermal sintering for the immobilisation of a uranyl phosphate containing waste. Meta-ankoleite thermal decomposition was studied across the temperature range 25 - 1200℃ under an inert N2 atmosphere at 1 atm. It is shown that the meta-ankoleite mineral phase undergoes a double de-hydration event at 56.90 and 125.85℃. Subsequently, synthetically produced pure meta-ankoleite remains stable until at least 1150℃ exhibiting no apparent phase changes. In contrast, when present in a mixed waste the meta-ankoleite phase is not identifiable after thermal treatment indicating incorporation within the bulk waste either as an amorphous phase and/or as uranium oxide. Visual inspection of the waste post thermal treatment showed evidence of self-sintering owing to the presence of glass former materials, namely, silica (SiO2) and antimony(V) oxide (Sb2O5). Therefore, incorporation of the uranium phase into the waste as part of waste sentencing and immobilisation via high temperature sintering for the purpose of long-term disposal is deemed feasible.

  • Ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) antizyme is a key regulatory protein in the control of cellular polyamines. We have isolated two distinct ODC antizyme cDNA clones (AZS and AZL) from a flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) brain cDNA library. Their sequences revealed that both clones required translational frameshifting for expression. Taking + 1 frameshifting into account, AZS and AZL products were 221 and 218 amino acid residues long, respectively, and shared $83.3\%$ amino acid sequence identity. Comparison of the structure and nucleotide sequence of the antizyme genes showed that the genes were highly conserved in flounder, zebrafish, mouse, and human. A phylogenetic tree was constructed, based on the antizyme amino acid sequences from various species. The presence of the two types of antizyme mRNA species in brain, kidney, liver, and embryo was confirmed by using the reverse transcriptionpolymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Northern blot analysis. Recombinant proteins of flounder ODC antizymes, containing His-Nus-S tag at the amino-terminus, were overexpressed as His-AZL and His-AZS fusion proteins in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3) pLys by using the pET44a(+) expression vector.

  • On lot of ships, Ballast Water Treatment Systems(BWTS) are in use, or the newly built ship should be mandatory installation by 2017. It is IMO(International Maritime Organization) regulations. Because the vessel is in long distance, It is managed this system only in the vessel and it may occur considerable cost of maintenance when a problem arises from BWTS. We describe in this paper how to monitor treated ballast water to make sure the ballast water and BWTS on a ship is in proper condition, but before the port entrance. In addition, analysing and forecasting trend signal to prevent failure. Also we can expect reduce the cost of BWTS maintenance. We can monitor the sensor data value's change which collected through satellite from BWTS. And we can observate the ballasting and de-ballasting state of the vessel easily.

  • Modern societies need image processing technology as mobile phones, computers and multimedia etc. are supplied, and image signal processing is now applied in many fields. However, images are damaged by impulse noise from various sources; to restore the damaged images from impulse noise standard median filter has been used as a typical method, but it makes errors at edge area lowering image quality. Therefore, in this paper average filter algorithm, in which mask is processed with multiple partition to remove impulse noise, is proposed. Simulation showed that the proposed method is superior in noise removal property to the existing ones.

  • As the demand for various multimedia service increases the technology that utilizes image as information transfer method develops rapidly. Though average filter, median filter and weight filter etc. have been proposed to remove various noises that are added to images, the existing methods are short of noise removal and edge reservation performance. Therefore, in this paper an algorithm, in which noise is decided at the first hand, and then it is processed through modified median filter and adaptive weighted average filter, is proposed to effectively remove the complex noise that has been added to an image. And it was compared with existing methods through simulation and PSNR(peak signal to noise ratio) has been used as a criterion.

  • Currently, with the rapid development of the digital age, multimedia-related image devices become popular. However, images are susceptible to corruption in processing image data due to the impulse noise and active researches have been conducted to restore these images. This paper, in order to restore the damaged images in impulse noise environments, suggested an image restoration algorithm which applies weights depending on spatial distance between directionality and pixel by focusing on damaged pixels. Additionally, this algorithm was compared with existing methods by using the PSNR (peak signal to noise ratio) as the objective standard to judge whether there were improved effects.

  • Power converters produce a vast range of harmonics, subharmonics and interharmonics. Harmonics analyzing tools based on the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) assume that only harmonics are present and the periodicity intervals are fixed, while these periodicity intervals are variable and long in the presence of interharmonics. Using FFT may lead to invalid and undesired results due to the above mentioned issues. They can also lead to problems such as frequency blending, spectral leakage and the picket-fence effect. In this paper, the group-harmonic weighting (GHW) approach has been presented to identify the interharmonics in a power system. Afterwards, a modified GHW has been introduced to calculate the proper bandwidth for analyzing the various values of interharmonics. Modifying this method leads to more precise results in the FFT of a waveform containing inter harmonics especially in power systems with a fundamental frequency drift or frequency interference. Numerical simulations have been performed to prove the efficiency of the presented algorithm in interharmonics detection and to increase the accuracy of the FFT and the GWH methods.

  • Advanced signal processing techniques have been long introduced and widely used in structural health monitoring (SHM) and nondestructive evaluation (NDE). In our research, we applied several signal processing approaches for our embedded ultrasonic structural radar (EUSR) system to obtain improved damage detection results. The EUSR algorithm was developed to detect defects within a large area of a thin-plate specimen using a piezoelectric wafer active sensor (PWAS) array. In the EUSR, the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) was first applied for signal de-noising. Secondly, after constructing the EUSR data, the short-time Fourier transform (STFT) and continuous wavelet transform (CWT) were used for the time-frequency analysis. Then the results were compared thereafter. We eventually chose continuous wavelet transform to filter out from the original signal the component with the excitation signal's frequency. Third, cross correlation method and Hilbert transform were applied to A-scan signals to extract the time of flight (TOF) of the wave packets from the crack. Finally, the Hilbert transform was again applied to the EUSR data to extract the envelopes for final inspection result visualization. The EUSR system was implemented in LabVIEW. Several laboratory experiments have been conducted and have verified that, with the advanced signal processing approaches, the EUSR has enhanced damage detection ability.

  • A high frequency hydraulic rock drill drifter with sleeve valve is developed to use on arm of excavator. In order to ensure optimal working parameters of impact system for the new hydraulic rock drill drifter controlled by sleeve valve, the performance test system is built using the arm and the hydraulic source of excavator. The evaluation indexes are gained through measurement of working pressure, supply oil flow and stress wave. The relations of working parameters to impact system performance are analyzed. The result demonstrates that the maximum impact energy of the drill drifter is 98.34J with impact frequency of 71HZ. Optimal pressure of YZ45 rock drill is 12.8 MPa-13.6MPa, in which the energy efficiency reaches above 58.6%, and feature moment of energy distribution is more than 0.650.

  • In modern society digital equipments that are related with various hardware and software are popularized, and digital images are widely applied in the field of production and scientific research. In general, however, images are degraded by the noise in the process of transmission and storage. In this paper, to reduce the influence of mixed noises, the algorithm in which noises in the space area are classified into impulse noise and Gaussian noise and this is processed by applying weighted value, while that is processed by modified nonlinear filter is proposed. And the excellence of the proposed algorithm is judged by PSNR(peak signal to noise ratio).
