비소세포폐암의 림프절 병기 결정에서 Coincidence PET의 역할 (The Role of Camera-Based Coincidence Positron Emission Tomography in Nodal Staging of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer)

  • 연구배경: 비소세포폐암의 림프절의 병기 결정은 치료 및 예후 결정에 매우 중요하나 정확한 병기 결정에는 많은 어려움이 있다. 야에 저자들은 최근에 개발된 CoDe PET의 림프절 병기 결정에 대한 유용성을 알아보고자 하였다. 방 법: 1998년 2월부터 1999년 6월까지 아주대학교병원에 내원하여 원발성 비소세포폐암으로 진단되어 치료를 시행하였던 환자 21예를 대상으로 하였다. 수술적 술전 폐암의 병기 결정을 위하여 흉부 전산화단층촬영, 복부 초음파검사, 전신 골주사 촬영, CoDe PET를 시행하였다. 대상 환자들의 수술후 병리학적 병기를 기준으로 하여서 CoDe PET로 결정된 림프절 병기의 민감도, 특이도, 양성 예측도, 음성 예측도, 정확도를 분석하였다. 결 과: 21예의 비소세포폐암중 20예에서 원발 종괴에 $^{18}FDG$가 섭취되었으며 위음성이 1예가 있었다. 림프절 병기에 있어 전체 21예중 13예에서는 병리학적 병기와 일치하였다. 병리학적 N0는 14예이었으며 CoDe PET의 N0에 대한 특이도는 64.3%이었다. N1 림프절에 대한 민감도는 83.3%, 특이도는 73.3%, 양성 예측도는 55.6%, 음성 예측도는 91.7%, 정확도는 76.2%이였다. N2 림프절에 대한 민감도는 60.0%, 특이도는 87.5%, 양성 예측도는 60.0%, 음성 예측도는 87.5%, 정확도는 90.0%이었다. 병리학적으로 그 크기가 측정된 림프절 29개중 암세포의 침윤이 있었던 림프절은 6개이었으며 이중 3개의 림프절은 CoDe PET에 국소 섭취로 나타났다. 위음성으로 나타난 3개의 림프절은 그 크기가 모두 1cm 이하였으며, 양성으로 나타난 림프절의 크기는 각각 1.1cm, 1.0cm, 0.5cm이었다. 크기가 1cm 이상이나 암세포의 침윤이 없었던 12개의 림프절중 1예에서만 위양성으로 나타났다. 5예에서는 위양성 소견을 보였는데 이중 1예는 폐결핵에 의한 육이종을 관찰할 수 있었으며, 1예는 pneumoconiosis, 1예는 anthracosis이었다. 결 론: CoDe PET는 크기가 1.5cm 이상의 림프절에 대한 음성 예측도가 비교적 높기 때문에 N3 림프절의 확대가 있는 비소세포폐암에서 CoDe PET를 시행하여 국소 섭취가 없는 경우에는 수술적 치료를 고려해 볼 수 있으리라 생각된다. 또한 CoDe PET는 아직 개발 단계에 있어서 향후 보다 더 발전된 영상을 얻을 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Immune Response of BALB/c Mice toward Putative Calcium Transporter Recombinant Protein of Trichomonas vaginalis

  • Trichomoniasis is a common sexually transmitted infection caused by Trichomonas vaginalis, which actually does not exist a vaccine for control or prevention. Thus, the identification of new and potent immunogens in T. vaginalis, which can contribute to the development of a vaccine against this parasite, is necessary. Therefore, the aim of this work was to evaluate the potential of a recombinant Transient Receptor Potential-like channel of T. vaginalis (TvTRPV), as a promising immunogen in BALB/c mice. First, TvTRPV was cloned and expressed as a recombinant protein in Escherichia coli BL21 cells and purified by nickel affinity. Next, BALB/c mice were immunized and the antibody levels in mice serum and cytokines from the supernatant of macrophages and from co-culture systems were evaluated. Recombinant TvTRPV triggered high levels of specific total IgG in sera from the immunized mice. Also, a statistically significant increase of cytokines: $IL-1{\beta}$, IL-6, and $TNF-{\alpha}$ after stimulation with the corresponding antigens in vitro, was identified. Moreover, co-cultures using $CD4^+$ T cells from immunized mice were able to identify higher levels of IL-10 and $IFN-{\gamma}$. These results were useful to validate the immunogenicity of TvTRPV in BALB/c mice, where IL-10-$IFN-{\gamma}$-secreting cells could play a role in infection control, supporting the potential of TvTRPV as a promising target for vaccine against T. vaginalis.

LNT용 PGM-free DeNOx 촉매 개발을 위한 기초연구 (Basic Research to Develop PGM-free DeNOx Catalyst for LNT)

  • 본 연구는 LNT (lean NOx trap)용 DeNOx 촉매를 개발하기 위해 시도하였다. 이를 위해서 예비실험을 통해 Pt등 귀금속류등의 PGM (platinum group metal)을 사용하지 않는 4개의 촉매, Al/Co/Mn, Al/Co/Ni/Mn, Al/Co/Mn/Ca, Al/Co/Ni 혼합 금속 산화물을 선정하였다. 또한, 이들의 물리화학적인 성질을 평가하기 위해 XRD, EDS, SEM, BET 및 TPD test를 실시하였다. 이러한 평가를 실시한 결과, 4종의 촉매들은 스피넬(spinel)구조를 가지는 결정으로 이루어졌으며 NOx 기체들의 산화-환원 반응이 이루어지기에는 충분한 기공부피와 기공크기를 갖고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한, TPD test를 통해서는 산화-환원이 일어날 수 있는 산점을 4종의 촉매가 모두 가지고 있음을 확인하였다. 더욱이 ramp test를 통해서는 상용(commercial) 촉매와 비슷한 NO 산화 능력을 가지고 있는 것도 확인할 수 있었다. 이상의 결과들을 바탕으로, 본 연구에서 선정된 촉매들을 기본으로 하여 조성성분의 변화 및 활성 성분 첨가 등을 한다면, 보다 개선된 LNT용 DeNOx 촉매를 얻을 수 있을 것이라 기대할 수 있었다.

Development and Testing of a 10 kV 1.5 kA Mobile DC De-Icer based on Modular Multilevel Converter with STATCOM Function

  • This paper introduces the development of a de-icer based on a full-bridge modular multilevel converter (FMMC). The FMMC can generate a wide range of DC voltages owing to its modularity, scalability, and redundancy, which makes it suitable for ice-melting applications. First, operating principles and voltage ranges are analyzed when FMMC is applied as a mobile de-icer. Second, two new startup strategies, constant modulation index and constant power startup strategies, are proposed. Third, the main control strategies of the de-icer are proposed. Fourth, a novel rated-current zero-power test scheme is proposed to simplify test conditions. Finally, a 10 kV 1.5 kA mobile MMC de-icer is designed and built, and experiments are carried out to validate the proposed startup, control strategies, and rated-current zero-power test scheme.

The CD28-B7 Family in Anti-Tumor Immunity: Emerging Concepts in Cancer Immunotherapy

  • The interactions between B7 molecules and CD28-family receptors are crucial in the regulation of adaptive cellular immunity. In cancer, the aberrant expression of co-inhibitory B7 molecules has been attributed to reduced anti-tumor immunity and cancer immune evasion, prompting the development of cancer therapeutics that can restore T cell function. Murine tumor models have provided significant support for the targeting of multiple immune checkpoints involving CTLA-4, PD-1, ICOS, B7-H3 and B7-H4 during tumor growth, and clinical studies investigating the therapeutic effects of CTLA-4 and PD-1 blockade have shown exceptionally promising results in patients with advanced melanoma and other cancers. The expression pattern of co-inhibitory B7 ligands in the tumor microenvironment has also been largely correlated with poor patient prognosis, and recent evidence suggests that the presence of several B7 molecules may predict the responsiveness of immunotherapies that rely on pre-existing tumor-associated immune responses. While monotherapies blocking T cell co-inhibition have beneficial effects in reducing tumor burden, combinatorial immunotherapy targeting multiple immune checkpoints involved in various stages of the anti-tumor response has led to the most substantial impact on tumor reduction. In this review, we will examine the contributions of B7- and CD28-family members in the context of cancer development, and discuss the implications of current human findings in cancer immunotherapy.

수소 풍부 환원제 변화가 Co-Pt/ZSM5 촉매를 사용하는 탈질 HC-SCR 반응에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Change of Hydrogen Rich Reductant on HC-SCR over Co-Pt/ZSM5 Catalyst)

  • HC-SCR was conducted over Co-Pt/ZSM5 catalyst coated over 200 cpsi cordierite in the condition of atomspheric pressure and $200^{\circ}C-500^{\circ}C$. Weight ratio of Co/Pt determined from EDX analysis was 8/2, which was almost equal to the weight ratio at preparation step. XPS showed that nitrates within cobalt precursor and chlorine withn Pt precursor were removed. TEM result demonstrated that crystallite size of cobalt and Pt was under 5nm. Among these tested hydrocarbon reductants, isobutane ($i-C_4H_{10}$) showed the highest de-$NO_x$ yield of 80% under the condition of the mole ratio of reductant/NOx=1.0 at $180^{\circ}C$. De-$NO_x$ yield from HC-SCR was increased as the carbon number of hydrocarbon reductant was increased. The decrease of bonding energy between C and H of HC reductant played a role to increase of de-$NO_x$ yield, which indicated that the dissociation step of C-H bond of hydrocarbon molecule might be the rate determining step of HC-SCR. The increase of oxygen concentration in the feed resulted in the decrease of de-$NO_x$ yield but the increase of CO and $N_2O$ yield.

  • A solid stage sinterizacion model of the WC-Co is applied on this work. These results are compaired with the experimental data obtained for nanometric and micrometric sinter powder in an electric furnace and micrometric in a plasma reactor (using Abnormal Glow Discharge AGD). The correlations obtained allow the prediction of the sintering behavior in AGD for nanometric powder. The activation of the solid state sintering is shown with the decraease of the WC size and the use of AGD

Interstory-interbuilding actuation schemes for seismic protection of adjacent identical buildings

  • Rows of closely adjacent buildings with similar dynamic characteristics are common building arrangements in residential areas. In this paper, we present a vibration control strategy for the seismic protection of this kind of multibuilding systems. The proposed approach uses an advanced Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) computational procedure to carry out the integrated design of distributed multiactuation schemes that combine interbuilding linking devices with interstory actuators implemented at different levels of the buildings. The controller designs are formulated as static output-feedback H-infinity control problems that include the interstory drifts, interbuilding approachings and control efforts as controlled-output variables. The advantages of the LMI computational procedure are also exploited to design a fully-decentralized velocity-feedback controller, which can define a passive control system with high-performance characteristics. The main ideas are presented by means of a system of three adjacent five-story identical buildings, and a proper set of numerical simulations are conducted to demonstrate the behavior of the different control configurations. The obtained results indicate that interstory-interbuilding multiactuation schemes can be used to design effective vibration control systems for adjacent buildings with similar dynamic characteristics. Specifically, this kind of control systems is able to mitigate the vibrational response of the individual buildings while maintaining reduced levels of pounding risk.

De-link R를 이용한 폐고무 재활용(I) (Recycling of Waste Rubber by De-link System (I))

  • 폐고무의 증가로 인하여 환경문제가 날로 심각해지고 있다. 그러므로 효율적인 재활용을 통하여 이러한 문제를 해결하는데 많은 연구가 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 탈황시스템을 이용하여 폐고무 분말의 가황 결합을 분리함으로서 기본물성을 높이는데 목적을 두었다. 폐고무분말의 입자크기에 따른 물성의 변화와 De-link 함량 증가에 따른 물성을 조사하였고 De-link를 함유한 시료를 기존 배합물에 10phr 충전하여 유변학적, 기계적 및 가교도 등의 물성을 조사하였다. 또한 광학현미경을 사용하여 표면을 확인함으로서 제품특성을 연구하였다.
