Intrusion Detection System (IDS) in general considers a big amount of data that are highly redundant and irrelevant. This trait causes slow instruction, assessment procedures, high resource consumption and poor detection rate. Due to their expensive computational requirements during both training and detection, IDSs are mostly ineffective for real-time anomaly detection. This paper proposes a dimensionality reduction technique that is able to enhance the performance of IDSs up to constant time O(1) based on the Principle Component Analysis (PCA). Furthermore, the present study offers a feature selection approach for identifying major components in real time. The PCA algorithm transforms high-dimensional feature vectors into a low-dimensional feature space, which is used to determine the optimum volume of factors. The proposed approach was assessed using HTTP packet payload of ISCX 2012 IDS and DARPA 1999 dataset. The experimental outcome demonstrated that our proposed anomaly detection achieved promising results with 97% detection rate with 1.2% false positive rate for ISCX 2012 dataset and 100% detection rate with 0.06% false positive rate for DARPA 1999 dataset. Our proposed anomaly detection also achieved comparable performance in terms of computational complexity when compared to three state-of-the-art anomaly detection systems.

Windows are key components of building facades. Detecting windows, crucial to 3D semantic reconstruction and scene parsing, is a challenging task in computer vision. Early methods try to solve window detection by using hand-crafted features and traditional classifiers. However, these methods are unable to handle the diversity of window instances in real scenes and suffer from heavy computational costs. Recently, convolutional neural networks based object detection algorithms attract much attention due to their good performances. Unfortunately, directly training them for challenging window detection cannot achieve satisfying results. In this paper, we propose an approach for window detection. It involves an improved Faster R-CNN architecture for window detection, featuring in a window region proposal network, an RoI feature fusion and a context enhancement module. Besides, a post optimization process is designed by the regular distribution of windows to refine detection results obtained by the improved deep architecture. Furthermore, we present a newly collected dataset which is the largest one for window detection in real street scenes to date. Experimental results on both existing datasets and the new dataset show that the proposed method has outstanding performance.

Clipart is artificial visual contents that are created using various tools such as Illustrator to highlight some information. Here, the style of the clipart plays a critical role in determining how it looks. However, previous studies on clipart are focused only on the object recognition [16], segmentation, and retrieval of clipart images using hand-craft image features. Recently, some clipart classification researches based on the style similarity using CNN have been proposed, however, they have used different CNN-models and experimented with different benchmark dataset so that it is very hard to compare their performances. This paper presents an experimental analysis of the clipart classification based on the style similarity with two well-known CNN-models (Inception Resnet V2 [13] and VGG-16 [14] and transfers learning with the same benchmark dataset (Microsoft Style Dataset 3.6K). From this experiment, we find out that the accuracy of Inception Resnet V2 is better than VGG for clipart style classification because of its deep nature and convolution map with various sizes in parallel. We also find out that the end-to-end training can improve the accuracy more than 20% in both CNN models.
One of the most important applications of computer vision algorithms is the detection of threat objects in x-ray security images. However, in the practical setting, this task is complicated by two properties inherent to the dataset, namely, the problem of class imbalance and visual complexity. In our previous work, we resolved the class imbalance problem by using a GAN-based anomaly detection to balance out the bias induced by training a classification model on a non-practical dataset. In this paper, we propose a new method to alleviate the visual complexity problem by using a KNN-based automatic cropping algorithm to remove distracting and irrelevant information from the x-ray images. We use the cropped images as inputs to our current model. Empirical results show substantial improvement to our model, e.g. about 3% in the practical dataset, thus further outperforming previous approaches, which is very critical for security-based applications.
The choice of labeled data in semi-supervised learning algorithm can result in effects on the performance of the resultant classifier. In order to select labeled data required for the training of a semi-supervised learning algorithm, VCNN(Vector Centroid Neural Network) is proposed in this paper. The proposed selection method of label data is evaluated on UCI dataset and caltech dataset. Experiments and results show that the proposed selection method outperforms conventional methods in terms of classification accuracy and minimum error rate.

Automatic analysis and understanding of human activities is a challenging task in computer vision, especially for the surveillance scenarios which typically contains crowds, complex motions and occlusions. To address these issues, a Bag-of-words representation of videos is developed by leveraging information including crowd positions, motion directions and velocities. We infer the crowd activity in a motion field using Category Constrained Correlated Topic Model (CC-CTM) with latent topics. We represent each video by a mixture of learned motion patterns, and predict the associated activity by training a SVM classifier. The experiment dataset we constructed are from Crowd_PETS09 bench dataset and UCF_Crowds dataset, including 2000 documents. Experimental results demonstrate that accuracy reaches 90%, and the proposed approach outperforms the state-of-the-arts by a large margin.
This paper presents the design and implementation of a deep learning-based automated weed detector on onion fields. The system is based on a Convolutional Neural Network that specifically selects proposed regions. The detector initiates training with a dataset taken from agricultural onion fields, after which candidate regions with very high probability of suspicion are considered weeds. Non-maximum suppression helps preserving the less overlapped bounding boxes. The dataset collected from different onion farms is evaluated with the proposed classifier. Classification accuracy is about 99% for the dataset, indicating the proposed method's superior performance with regard to weed detection on the onion fields.
Coal pillar assessment is of broad importance to underground engineering structure, as the pillar failure can lead to enormous disasters. Because of the highly non-linear correlation between the pillar failure and its influential attributes, conventional forecasting techniques cannot generate accurate outcomes. To approximate the complex behavior of coal pillar, this paper elucidates a new idea to forecast the underground coal pillar stability using combined unsupervised-supervised learning. In order to build a database of the study, a total of 90 patterns of pillar cases were collected from authentic engineering structures. A state-of-the art feature depletion method, t-distribution symmetric neighbor embedding (t-SNE) has been employed to reduce significance of actual data features. Consequently, an unsupervised machine learning technique K-mean clustering was followed to reassign the t-SNE dimensionality reduced data in order to compute the relative class of coal pillar cases. Following that, the reassign dataset was divided into two parts: 70 percent for training dataset and 30 percent for testing dataset, respectively. The accuracy of the predicted data was then examined using support vector classifier (SVC) model performance measures such as precision, recall, and f1-score. As a result, the proposed model can be employed for properly predicting the pillar failure class in a variety of underground rock engineering projects.

In recent years, there are extensive researches on the applications of machine learning to the automation and decision support for medical experts during disease detection. However, the performance of machine learning still needs improvement so that machine learning model produces result that is more accurate and reliable for disease detection. Selecting the hyper-parameter that could produce the possible maximum classification accuracy on medical dataset is the most challenging task in developing decision support systems with machine learning algorithms for medical dataset classification. Moreover, selecting the features that best characterizes a disease is another challenge in developing machine-learning model with better classification accuracy. In this study, we have proposed an optimized decision tree model for heart disease classification by using heart disease dataset collected from kaggle data repository. The proposed model is evaluated and experimental test reveals that the performance of decision tree improves when an optimal number of features are used for training. Overall, the accuracy of the proposed decision tree model is 98.2% for heart disease classification.

Image noise classification is a classical problem in the field of image processing, machine learning, deep learning and computer vision. In this paper, image noise classification is performed using deep learning. Keras deep learning library of TensorFlow is used for this purpose. 6900 images images are selected from the Kaggle database for the classification purpose. Dataset for labeled noisy images of multiple type was generated with the help of Matlab from a dataset of non-noisy images. Labeled dataset comprised of Salt & Pepper, Gaussian and Sinusoidal noise. Different training and tests sets were partitioned to train and test the model for image classification. In deep neural networks CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) is used due to its in-depth and hidden patterns and features learning in the images to be classified. This deep learning of features and patterns in images make CNN outperform the other classical methods in many classification problems.
