An Object-Oriented Database Design for Managing SGML Documents (SGML 문서의 관리를 위한 객체지향 데이타베이스 설계)

  • Electronic socuments described in SGML DTD are effedtive to manage with the object-oriented database. To do that,first of all, a database design for SGML documents must be preceeded. In this paper, we suggest an object-oriented meta schema for managing SGML DTDs, which describes logical structures of electrinic socuments. We also propose a method a methof to manage electronic documents in object-oriented databases through the application database schema which is synamically create from the meta schema.

A Database of Gene Expression Profiles of Korean Cancer Genome

  • Because there are clear molecular differences entailing different treatment effectiveness between Korean and non-Korean cancer patients, identifying distinct molecular characteristics of Korean cancers is profoundly important. Here, we report a web-based data repository, namely Korean Cancer Genome Database (KCGD), for searching gene signatures associated with Korean cancer patients. Currently, a total of 1,403 cancer genomics data were collected, processed and stored in our repository, an ever-growing database. We incorporated most widely used statistical survival analysis methods including the Cox proportional hazard model, log-rank test and Kaplan-Meier plot to provide instant significance estimation for searched molecules. As an initial repository with the aim of Korean-specific marker detection, KCGD would be a promising web application for users without bioinformatics expertise to identify significant factors associated with cancer in Korean.

  • The database design, which logically sets the base structure and orga¬nization of the database, is performed by considering the users requirement, the relations between various data, and the relations between data and application field.The road network data must be created to have geometrical topological structure, because various data elements are needed to recognize the state of each section and to relate between data element. In this study, we propose a method of creating the road network database for an integrated road management system.

PSMVL : A Concurrency Control Protocol for Real-Time Secure Database Systems

  • The application for real-time database systems must satisfy timing constraints. Typically the timing constraints are expressed in the form of deadlines which are represented by priorities to e used by schedulers. In any real-time applications, since the system maintains sensitive information to be shared by multiple users with different levels of security clearance, security is another important requirement. As more advanced database systems are being used in applications that need to support timeliness while managing sensitive information, protocols that satisfy both requirements need to be developed. In this appear, we proposed a new priority-driven secure multiversion locking (PSMVL) protocol for real-time secure database systems. The schedules produced by PSMVL are proven to e one-copy serializable. We have also shown tat the protocol eliminates covert channels and priority inversions. The details of the protocol, including the compatibility matrix and the version selection algorithms are presented. the results of the performance comparisons of our protocol with other protocols are described.

The Status Quo of Graph Databases in Construction Research

  • This study aims to review the use of graph databases in construction research. Based on the diagnosis of the current research status, a future research direction is proposed. The use of graph databases in construction research has been increasing because of the efficiency in expressing complex relations between entities in construction big data. However, no study has been conducted to review systematically the status quo of graph databases. This study analyzes 42 papers in total that deployed a graph model and graph database in construction research, both quantitatively and qualitatively. A keyword analysis, topic modeling, and qualitative content analysis were conducted. The review identified the research topics, types of data sources that compose a graph, and the graph database application methods and algorithms. Although the current research is still in a nascent stage, the graph database research has great potential to develop into an advanced stage, fused with artificial intelligence (AI) in the future, based on the active usage trends this study revealed.

  • Recently, artificial intelligence has been in the spotlight across various fields. Artificial intelligence uses massive amounts of data to train machine learning models and performs various tasks using the trained models. For model training, large, high-quality data sets are essential, and database systems have provided such data. Driven by advances in artificial intelligence, attempts are being made to improve various components of database systems using artificial intelligence. Replacing traditional complex algorithm-based database components with their artificial-intelligence-based counterparts can lead to substantial savings of resources and computation time, thereby improving the system performance and efficiency. We analyze trends in the application of artificial intelligence to database systems.

Efficient Spatial Query Processing in Constraint Databases (제약 데이터베이스에서의 효율적인 공간질의 처리)

  • The tuple of constraint database consists of constraint logical formula and it could process the presentation and query of the constraint database simply. Query operation processing shall include the constraint formula between related tuple such as selection, union, intersection of spatial data through the constraint database. However, this could produce the increasing of duplicated or unnecessary data. Hence, it will drive up the cost as per quality. This paper identified problems regarding query processing result in the constraint database. Also this paper suggested the tuple minimization summary method for result relation and analyzed the effects for efficient query processing. We were able to identify that the effectiveness of the query processing was enhanced by eliminating unnecessary constraint formula of constraint relation using the tuple minimization method.

  • In shipbuilding industry, welding position are usually flat and vertical position at the erection stage. Application of SAW and EGW for these positions makes it possible to achieve enhanced productivity and high quality. But owing to their large size and weight it is difficult to apply these techniques in short and narrow regions. To overcome this problem, our company developed light weight and compact size 4-axis welding carriage which perform 3D weaving. The purpose of this study is to explain the development and application of intelligent welding carriage using 3D weaving pattern that can fill a large amount of welds and thereby making it possible to achieve high quality of welding. This study shows 3D weaving pattern, development of weaving database, and skill of adaptive control response for the variable gap. Also, it shows the results of procedure qualification test for the AH-grade steel when applied to the intelligent welding carriage.
