Construction of a Network Model to Reveal Genes Related to Salt Tolerance in Chinese Cabbage (배추 염 저항성 관련 유전자의 네트워크 모델 구축)

  • Abiotic stress conditions such as cold, drought, and salinity trigger physiological and morphological changes and yield loss in plants. Hence, plants adapt to adverse environments by developing tolerance through complex regulation of genes related to various metabolic processes. This study was conducted to construct a coexpression network for multidirectional analysis of salt-stress response genes in Brassica rapa (Chinese cabbage). To construct the coexpression network, we collected KBGP-24K microarray data from the B. rapa EST and microarray database (BrEMD) and performed time-based expression analyses of B. rapa plants. The constructed coexpression network model showed 1,853 nodes, 5,740 edges, and 142 connected components (correlation coefficient > 0.85). On the basis of the significantly expressed genes in the network, we concluded that the development of salt tolerance is closely related to the activation of $Na^+$ transport by reactive oxygen species signaling and the accumulation of proline in Chinese cabbage.

  • Decrease of forest is seriously caused by urbanization. Photographic interpretation is the act of examining photographic images for the purpose of identifying objects and judging their significance. A systematic study of aerial photographs usually involves a consideration of the basic characteristics of photographic images. Seven of these characteristics are shape, size, pattern, shadow, tone, texture, and site. Aerial photographs contain a detailed record of the ground at the time of exposure. Authors blow the changes of natural environment by database for interpretation of aerial photo. In this paper, authors choose the Pusan National University located at the Kum-Joung Koo, Pusan as model area. Ten year of interval in 1980 and 1990, authors know the rate of forest decreasing is approximately 41 percents and the necessity of the protection of foreast. Authors suggest the combination of construction and protection of environment.

  • This paper proposes potentialities of constructing the information system for earthquake hazard management which can manage and analyse earthquake risk and hazard systematically. The experimental results as well as architectural structure investment data for seismicity assessment are built in database and connected with GIS for assessing earthquake safety of building in urban area. For earthquake-resistant performance assessment, we collected and classified building structural data according to assessment criteria using building register, architectural map, digital map, and then complemented database with field survey data. We also suggest GIS-based information system can cope with and manage earthquake hazard effectively, as evaluating earthquake risk by performing detailed earthquake-resistant assessment and determining final assessment scores. The assessment should be processed quickly and accurately by integrating the earthquake hazard information management system with modularization of assessment procedure and method in the future.

  • The Korean ginseng, Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer is a popular medicinal herb in Araliaceae. Genetic map in crops provides valuable information for breeding, genetic and genomic researches. However, little information is available for construction of genetic map in ginseng. Up to now, we have produced large amounts of expressed sequence tags (ESTs) from four ginseng cultivars (37Mb, 49Mb, 39Mb, 47Mb from Gopoong, Gumpoong, Chunpoong and Yunpoong respectively using pyrosequencing technique and 5Mb from normalized full-length cDNA library of Chunpoong) to obtain comprehensive information of gene expression, and constructed EST database including ESTs from public database. Till now, we designed 261 SSR primer sets using EST sequences and identified 106 intergenic polymorphic markers. And 44 of the 106 showed polymorphisms among panax ginseng cultivars. Among 44 markers, 27 SSR polymorphic markers were inspected to 51 $F_2$ population from Yunpoong x Chunpoong, which showed good at the fitness of Mendellian segregation ratio 1:2:1. To enrich the number of markers, and thus construct high resolution genetic map which can be used as frame map for further genome sequencing. we are planning to develop large scale EST-derived SNP markers which are available in the F2 population. This study provides genetic information as well as foundation for ginseng researches such as genetics, genomics, breeding, and the final goal for whole genome sequencing.   • Flood inundation analysis system using GIS has been developed to simulate inundation in airport drainage areas. The model developed in this study has been synthetically presented and constructed the preprocess for database construction and input data preparing through a graphic user interface, GUI system and the postprocess processing graphically output resulted in mainprocess analysis model linked GIS(ArcView/Avenue). The mainprocess analysis model was simulated in real phenomenon caused by inflow of storm sewer system by simulation flooding due to backwater effect and surcharged flow in storm sewer system by simulating interaction coupling the overland flow analysis model and storm sewer system analysis model. In the future, the flood inundation analysis system developed in this study will be a great contribution to systematic decision-making for establishing the flood-mitigation management and facilities improvement plan to flooding damage in airport.

  • Various phenomenon can be expressed numerically and collected as a data due to rapid development of the computer. In particular large set of data is collected in various fields. We can obtain the information for final decision based on analysis and interpretation of the data. The issue is the management of the data as well as the importance of the data. So a system which stores the data in server and prints out the data to web browser is demanded. We uploaded the file of Excel form to server database and developed a web based program which can show the uploaded data through web based database. We used the Oracle DB for uploading and web programming language such as html, JAVA, JSP for querying the data. Finally, we developed a program for web based clinical data management system construction.

The Map Generalization Methodology for Korean Cadastral Map using Topographic Map (수치지형도를 이용한 연속지적도의 지도 일반화 기법 연구)

  • Recently, demand for the use of cadastral map is increasing in both public and private area. To use cadastral map in web or mobile environment, construction of the multi-representation database(MRDB) that is the compressed into multiple scale from the original map data is recommended. In this study, the map generalization methodology for the cadastral map by applying overlay with topographic map and polygon generalization technique is suggested. This process is composed of three steps, re-constructing the network data of topographic map, polygon merging of parcel lines according to network degree, and applying line simplification techniques. Proposed methodologies are applied to the cadastral map in Suwon area. The result map was generalized into 1:5,000, 1:20,000, 1:100,000 scale, and data compression ratio was shown in 15% 8% 1% level respectively.

  • The DNA and protein data of diverse species have been daily discovered and deposited in the public archives according to each established format. Database systems in the public archives provide not only an easy-to-use, flexible interface to the public, but also in silico analysis tools of unidentified sequence data. Of such in silico analysis tools, multiple sequence alignment [1] methods relying on pairwise alignment and Smith-Waterman algorithm [2] enable us to identify unknown DNA, protein sequences or phylogenetic relation among several species. However, in the existing multiple alignment method as the number of sequences increases, the runtime increases exponentially. In order to remedy this problem, we adopted a parallel processing suffix tree algorithm that is able to search for common subsequences at one time without pairwise alignment. Also, the cross-matching subsequences triggering inexact-matching among the searched common subsequences might be produced. So, the cross-matching masking process was suggested in this paper. To identify the function of the clusters generated by suffix tree clustering, BLAST was combined with a clustering tool. Our clustering and annotating tool is summarized as the following steps: (1) construction of suffix tree; (2) masking of cross-matching pairs; (3) clustering of gene sequences and (4) annotating gene clusters by BLAST search. The system was successfully evaluated with 22 gene sequences in the pyrubate pathway of bacteria, clustering 7 clusters and finding out representative common subsequences of each cluster

  • The purpose of the FAPIS(Forest Aerial Photograph Interpretation System) development is to increase accuracy and efficiency of the digital forest cover type mapping for improving conventional analog-based mapping procedures by optimizing work-flow and mapping technology. The database models including digital forest cover type map, aerial photograph, and topographic map were designed for use in this system construction. The interface configured concisely to connect with functions such as search engine, display control, conversion to stereo interpretation mode, modification tools, automation of print layout and database models. It is expected that the standardization methodology based on this system can be applied and extended in making all kinds of digital thematic maps, providing decision-making and information of forest resources.

Construction of the image database of Earth's lava caves useful in identifying the lunar caves

  • Cave on the Moon is considered as the most appropriate place for human to live during the frontier lunar exploration. While the lava flows, the outer crust gets cooled and solidified. Then, the empty space is remained inside after lava flow stops. Such empty space is called the lava caves. Those lava tubes on the Earth are formed mostly by volcanic activity. However, the lava tubes on satellite like Moon and planet like Mars without volcanic activity are mostly formed by the lava flow inside of the crater made by large meteorite impact. Some part of lava tube with collapsed ceiling appears as the entrance of the cave. Such area looks like a deep crater so called a pit crater. Four large pit craters with diameter of > 60 m and depth of > 40 m are found without difficulty from Kaguya and LRO mission image archives. However, those are too deep to use as easily accessible human frontier base. Therefore, now we are going to identify some smaller lunar caves with accessible entrances using LRO camera images of 0.5 m/pixel resolution. Earth's lava caves and their entrances are well photographed by surface and aerial camera in immense volume. Thus, if the image data are sorted and archived well, those images can be used in comparison with the less distinct lunar cave and entrance images due to its smaller size. Then, we can identify the regions on the Moon where there exist caves with accessible entrances. The database will be also useful in modeling geomorphology for lunar and Martian caves for future artificial intelligence investigation of the caves in any size.
