  • In this paper, a yield prediction model based on relevance vector machine (RVM) and a granular computing model (quotient space theory) is presented. With a granular computing model, massive and complex meteorological data can be analyzed at different layers of different grain sizes, and new meteorological feature data sets can be formed in this way. In order to forecast the crop yield, a grey model is introduced to label the training sample data sets, which also can be used for computing the tendency yield. An RVM algorithm is introduced as the classification model for meteorological data mining. Experiments on data sets from the real world using this model show an advantage in terms of yield prediction compared with other models.

  • Based on the data obtained from field investigation and soil testing to slope hazards occurrence section and non-occurrence section in gneiss area, a prediction technique was developed by the use of a decision tree model. The slope hazards data of Seoul and Kyonggi Province were 104 sections in gneiss area. The number of data applied in developing prediction model was 61 sections except a vacant value. The statistical analyses using the decision tree model were applied to the entrophy index. As the results of analyses, a slope angle, a degree of saturation and an elevation were selected as the classification standard. The prediction model of decision tree using entrophy index is most likely accurate. The classification standard of the selected prediction model is composed of the slope angle, the degree of saturation and the elevation from the first choice stage. The classification standard values of the slope angle, the degree of saturation and elevation are $17.9^{\circ}$, 52.1% and 320m, respectively.

  • The role of the power grid is to ensure stable power supply. It is necessary to take various measures to prepare for unstable situations without notice. After identifying the relationship between features through exploratory data analysis using weather data, a machine learning based energy production prediction model is modeled. In this study, the prediction reliability was increased by extracting the features that affect energy production prediction using principal component analysis and then applying it to the machine learning model. By using the proposed model to predict the production energy for a specific period and compare it with the actual production value at that time, the performance of the energy production prediction applying the principal component analysis was confirmed.

  • We propose a network traffic prediction model based on linear and nonlinear model combination. Network traffic is modeled by an autoregressive moving average model, and the error between the measured and predicted network traffic values is obtained. Then, an echo state network is used to fit the prediction error with nonlinear components. In addition, an improved slime mold algorithm is proposed for reservoir parameter optimization of the echo state network, further improving the regression performance. The predictions of the linear (autoregressive moving average) and nonlinear (echo state network) models are added to obtain the final prediction. Compared with other prediction models, test results on two network traffic datasets from mobile and fixed networks show that the proposed prediction model has a smaller error and difference measures. In addition, the coefficient of determination and index of agreement is close to 1, indicating a better data fitting performance. Although the proposed prediction model has a slight increase in time complexity for training and prediction compared with some models, it shows practical applicability.

  • Deep learning methods and their application have become an essential part of prediction and modeling in water-related research areas, including hydrological processes, climate change, etc. It is known that application of deep learning leads to high availability of data sources in hydrology, which shows its usefulness in analysis of precipitation, runoff, groundwater level, evapotranspiration, and so on. However, there is still a limitation on microclimate analysis and prediction with deep learning methods because of deficiency of gauge-based data and shortcomings of existing technologies. In this study, a real-time rainfall prediction model was developed from a sky image data set with convolutional neural networks (CNNs). These daily image data were collected at Chung-Ang University and Korea University. For high accuracy of the proposed model, it considers data classification, image processing, ratio adjustment of no-rain data. Rainfall prediction data were compared with minutely rainfall data at rain gauge stations close to image sensors. It indicates that the proposed model could offer an interpolation of current rainfall observation system and have large potential to fill an observation gap. Information from small-scaled areas leads to advance in accurate weather forecasting and hydrological modeling at a micro scale.

  • Wind speed is heavily fluctuated and quite local than other weather elements. It is difficult to improve the accuracy of prediction only in a numerical prediction model. An MOS (Model Output Statistics) technique is used to correct the systematic errors of the model using a statistical data analysis. The Most of previous MOS has used a linear regression model for weather prediction, but it is hard to manage an irregular nature of prediction of wind speed. In order to solve the problem, a nonlinear regression method using SVR (Support Vector Regression) is introduced for a development of MOS for wind speed prediction. Experiments are performed for KLAPS (Korea Local Analysis and Prediction System) re-analysis data from 2007 to 2013 year for Jeju Island and Busan area in South Korea. The MLR and SVR based linear and nonlinear methods are compared to each other for prediction accuracy of wind speed. Also, the comparison experiments are executed for the variation in the number of UM elements.

  • Deep learning shows differences in prediction performance depending on data quality and model. This study uses various input data and multiple deep learning models to build an optimal deep learning model for predicting solar radiation, which has the most influence on power generation prediction. did. As the input data, the weather data of the Korea Meteorological Administration and the clairvoyant meteorological image were used by segmenting the image of the Korea Meteorological Agency. , comparative evaluation, and predicting solar radiation by constructing multiple deep learning models connecting the models with the best error rate in each model. As an experimental result, the RMSE of model A, which is a multiple deep learning model, was 0.0637, the RMSE of model B was 0.07062, and the RMSE of model C was 0.06052, so the error rate of model A and model C was better than that of a single model. In this study, the model that connected two or more models through experiments showed improved prediction rates and stable learning results.

  • In the cold rolling mill, coil breakage that generated in rolling process makes the various types of troubles such as the degradation of productivity and the damage of equipment. Recent researches were done by the mechanical analysis such as the analysis of roll chattering or strip inclining and the prevention of breakage that detects the crack of coil. But they could cover some kind of breakages. The prediction of Coil breakage was very complicated and occurred rarely. We propose to build effective prediction modes for coil breakage in rolling process, based on data mining model. We proposed three prediction models for coil breakage: (1) decision tree based model, (2) regression based model and (3) neural network based model. To reduce model parameters, we selected important variables related to the occurrence of coil breakage from the attributes of coil setup by using the methods such as decision tree, variable selection and the choice of domain experts. We developed these prediction models and chose the best model among them using SEMMA process that proposed in SAS E-miner environment. We estimated model accuracy by scoring the prediction model with the posterior probability. We also have developed a software tool to analyze the data and generate the proposed prediction models either automatically and in a user-driven manner. It also has an effective visualization feature that is based on PCA (Principle Component Analysis).

  • Criticality prediction models that determine whether a design entity is fault-prone or non fault-prone are used for identifying trouble spots of software system in analysis or design phases. Many criticality prediction models for identifying fault-prone modules using complexity metrics have been suggested. But most of them need training data set. Unfortunately very few organizations have their own training data. To solve this problem, this paper builds a new prediction model, KSM, based on Kohonen SOM neural networks. KSM is implemented and compared with a well-known prediction model, BackPropagation neural network Model (BPM), considering internal characteristics, utilization cost and accuracy of prediction. As a result, this paper shows that KSM has comparative performance with BPM.

  • The detection of corporate failures is a subject that has been particularly amenable to cross-sectional financial ratio analysis. In most of firms, however, the financial data are available over past years. Because of this, a model utilizing these longitudinal data could provide useful information on the prediction of bankruptcy. To correctly reflect the longitudinal and firm-specific data, the generalized linear model with assuming the first order AR(autoregressive) process is proposed. The method is motivated by the clinical research that several characteristics are measured repeatedly from individual over the time. The model is compared with several other predictive models to evaluate the performance. By using the financial data from manufacturing corporations in the Korea Stock Exchange (KSE) list, we will discuss some experiences learned from the procedure of sampling scheme, variable transformation, imputation, variable selection, and model evaluation. Finally, implications of the model with repeated measurement and future direction of research will be discussed.
