Surface detection and parameter estimation in point cloud is a relevant subject in CAD/CAM, reverse engineering, computer vision, coordinate metrology and digital factory. In this paper we present a software for a fully automatic surface detection and parameter estimation in unordered, incomplete and error-contaminated point cloud with a large number of data points. The software consists of three algorithmic modules each for object identification, point segmentation, and model fitting, which work interactively. Our newly developed algorithms for orthogonal distance fitting(ODF) play a fundamental role in each of the three modules. The ODF algorithms estimate the model parameters by minimizing the square sum of the shortest distances between the model feature and the measurement points. We demonstrate the performance of the software on a variety of point clouds generated by laser radar, computer tomography, and stripe-projection method.

The severity of the global climate crisis is increasing due to greenhouse gases caused by human activities. As a result, countries and industries are making efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, the biggest cause of global warming. Many studies have been conducted to predict carbon emissions in the construction sector to reduce this, but they have not actually produced a highly usable formula in the field. Therefore, the two variables 'Curve Fitting' were performed based on the data of excavators and trucks measured at the field. As a result, we have obtained a carbon dioxide emission prediction model for construction equipment, and we would like to use it to help establish an eco-friendly process plan.
Measured bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF) data have been used to represent complex interaction between lights and surface materials for photorealistic rendering. However, their massive size makes it hard to adopt them in practical rendering applications. In this paper, we propose an adaptive method for B-spline volume representation of measured BRDF data. It basically performs approximate B-spline volume lofting, which decomposes the problem into three sub-problems of multiple B-spline curve fitting along u-, v-, and w-parametric directions. Especially, it makes the efficient use of knots in the multiple B-spline curve fitting and thereby accomplishes adaptive knot placement along each parametric direction of a resulting B-spline volume. The proposed method is quite useful to realize efficient data reduction while smoothing out the noises and keeping the overall features of BRDF data well. By applying the B-spline volume models of real materials for rendering, we show that the B-spline volume models are effective in preserving the features of material appearance and are suitable for representing BRDF data.

This paper presents an error-bounded B-spline fitting technique to approximate unorganized data within a prescribed error tolerance. The proposed approach includes two main steps: leastsquares minimization and error-bounded approximation. A B-spline hypervolume is first described as a data representation model, which includes its mathematical definition and the data structure for implementation. Then we present the least-squares minimization technique for the generation of an approximate B-spline model from the given data set, which provides a unique solution to the problem: overdetermined, underdetermined, or ill-conditioned problem. We also explain an algorithm for the error-bounded approximation which recursively refines the initial base model obtained from the least-squares minimization until the Euclidean distance between the model and the given data is within the given error tolerance. The proposed approach is demonstrated with some examples to show its usefulness and a good possibility for various applications.
In this paper, we propose a new dataset for AI diagnosis and BLDC motor diagnosis in UAV. In the diagnosis of BLDC motor, PVA(Park's Vector Approach) is difficult to apply due to many ripples of frequency components. However, since the components of ripples are the third harmonics, we propose a method to utilize PVA as circle fitting by applying Savitzky-Golay filter which is excellent for the third harmonics. On the other hand, PVA, a technique to convert from three-phase to two-phase, is always based on the origin during the transformation process. This study demonstrates that the error of the origin and the measured center can be detected and diagnosed in the application process of Circle fitting, and that it can be used as a new data set of AI technology.
Off-axis reflective optical systems have attractive advantages relative to their on-axis or refractive counterparts, for example, zero chromatic aberration, no obstruction, and a wide field of view. For the efficient operation of off-axis reflective system, the surface accuracy of freeform mirrors should be higher than the order of wavelengths at which the reflective optical systems operate. Especially for applications in shorter wavelength regions, such as visible and ultraviolet, higher surface accuracy of freeform mirrors is required to minimize the light scattering. In this work, we propose the error compensation algorithm (ECA) for the correction of wavefront errors on freeform mirrors. The ECA converts a form error pattern into polynomial expression by fitting a least square method. The error pattern is measured by using an ultra-high accurate 3-D profilometer (UA3P, Panasonic Corp.). The measured data are fitted by two fitting models: Sag (Delta Z) data model and form (Z) data model. To evaluate fitting accuracy of these models, we compared the fitted error patterns with the measured error pattern.

High speed machining is a machining process which cuts materials with the fast movement and rotation of a spindle in a machine tool. It reduces machining time because of the high feed and the high speed of a spindle. In addition it gets rid of post processes for high precision machining. When the high speed machining is applied to especially hardened steel, operators should select the proper parameters of machining. This can produce machining surfaces which is qualified with good surface roughness. This paper presents a method for selecting machining parameters to minimize surface roughness with high speed machining in cutting the hardened steels. Experimental data for surface roughness are collected in a machining shop based on the cutting feed and the spindle rotation. The data fits in hi-cubic polynomial surface of mathematical form. From the model this research minimize the surface roughness to find the optimal values of the feed and the spindle speed. This paper presents a program which automatically generates optimal solutions from the raw data of experiments.

This study has developed a water balance model for the catchment of Byungchun river using a BROOK90 4.4e physical deterministic water balance model with the long-term meterological data and stream run off data obtained from the basin of Byungchun river in Korea. It is intended that the validation model with calibrated model fitting parameter can build a long-term water balance plan for a period when meterological data are available but stream runoff data are not. Results of this study have satisfied the first expectation as an experiment for water balance modeling since measured stream runoff data have turned out to be very similar to simulated stream runoff data. Through the confirmation of model fitting parameters and validated simulation, water balance for the period of 1998 to 2006 has been restored. Unless the conditions of geomophology, vegetation, soil and land use change, meterological data alone can produce various hydrometeorological data related to stream runoff amount, soil water amount, and evapotranspiration. This study opens up a new horizon in restoring water balance in the past as well planning water balance in the present. The obtained results from this study are expected to be used in predicting future water balance in the wake of the changes in climate and vegetation in Korea.

This paper describes a multiresidual approximation method for scattered volumetric data modeling. The approximation method employs a volumetric NURBS or VNURBS as a data interpolating function and proposes two multiresidual methods as a data modeling algorithm. One is called as the residual series method that constructs a sequence of VNURBS functions and their algebraic summation produces the desired approximation. The other is the residual merging method that merges all the VNURBS functions mentioned above into one equivalent function. The first one is designed to construct wavelet-type multiresolution models and also to achieve more accurate approximation. And the second is focused on its improvement of computational performance with the save fitting accuracy for more practical applications. The performance results of numerical examples demonstrate the usefulness of VNURBS approximation and the effectiveness of multiresidual methods. In addition, several graphical examples suggest that the VNURBS approximation is applicable to various applications such as surface modeling and fitting problems.
A large scale field test of prefabricated vertical drains is performed to analyze the effect of parameters of the very soft clay at a test site. Compression index and the coefficient of horizontal consolidation obtained by back-analysis from the settlement data were compared with those obtained by means of laboratory tests. The Hyperbolic, Asaoka's and The Curve fitting methods are used to estimate final settlements and coefficients of consolidation. 1. Final settlement predicted with the Hyperbolic method was the largest, and the settlements predicted with the Asaoka's and the Curve fitting methods were nearly the same range, and it was concluded that smear effect has to be considered on design in the case that spacing of drains is small 2. The relationships of the measured consolidation ratio (Urn) and the designed consolidation ratio($U_t$) were showed as $U_m$ = (1.13~1.17)$U_t$, $U_m$ = (1.07~1.20)$U_t$, $U_m$ = (1.13~1.17)$U_t$ on the Hyperbolic, Asaoka's and the Curve fitting methods, respectively. The relations on the Asaoka's and the Curve fitting methods were nearly the same range. 3. The relationships of the field compression index($C_{cfield}$) and virgin compression index($V_{cclab}$) were showed as $C_{cfield}$ = (1.26~1.45)$V_{cclab}$, $C_{cfield}$ = (1.08~1.15) $V_{cclab}$, $C_{cfield}$ = (1.04~1.21)$V_{cclab}$, on the Hyperbolic, Asaoka's and the Curve fitting methods, respectively. 4. The ratio ($C_h/C_v$) of the coefficient of vertical consolidation and the coefficient of horizontal consolidation that is obtained by back-analysis from the settlement data was $C_h$=(0.7~0.9)$C_v$, $C_h$=(0.9~1.5)$C_v$, $C_h$=(2.4~3.0)$C_v$ on the Hyperbolic, Asaoka's and the Curve fitting methods, respectively. 5. It was concluded that the exact consolidation coefficient must be determined after the final settlement is predicted again when the consolidation is finished, because the field consolidation coefficient is decreased as the time allowed to be alone is increased.
